RE: JMA Long Marston Jet Meet July 14th-15th
The Welsh airforce have just arrived home Many thanks to all involved in the organising of this event, we had a great weekend, special thanks to Dick for the bacon butties/burgers etc - much appreciated. So to the flying we personally managed to burn about 35 litres of fuel, haven't done that for a long while, enjoyed the Mig-Fest and the dueling Bobcats (Jason and Jamie). Once again thanks to all for a memorable weekend - and the weather played ball too!!!!!!!!! Nick and Derek - The Welsh Airforce

RE: Avonds F-15 kit ?
I have an Avonds F-15 kit (with a Jetcat P120 approx 27lbs thrust) done as per avonds instructions, not had any issues with the rear fuzz getting too hot but then I don't keep turbine at full chat on the ground for several minutes, only time I run full power on the ground is just after starting, I usually give it a 5 second burst to make sure all is ok, not noticed any heat issues doing this. Only thing I have done which wasn't in avonds instructions is to paint BVM heatshield paint in the area surrounding the pipe. As previously posted the fuzz has no air running through it which it needs to keep it cool it. Regards Nick

RE: Boomerang Sprint Build Thread!
My dad's part way through building a Sprint, it's going to have a Jetcat p70 fitted, do we need to put the usual 3/8" shim under the Jetcat mount to centre the turbine or does it not matter on this model. Thanks Nick

RE: E Flight HABU 32- P-20SE Build thread+Videos*
Mine is now all but finished, just balanced it and had to add 3 oz of nose weight (but I have used smaller batteries, 2S 1000maH for Rx and 2S 1200mah for ECU), just have to do a final control set up and test run the engine (and finish the canopy/cockpit). Nick

RE: Avonds Rafale
I have a rafale with a P60 in it, flys very well but hi alpha you may struggle, if you won't lots of power for low weight then the best bet is a merlin 90. If you are using the avonds bifucated tailpipe you can also expect a 1-2lb loss in thrust (avonds told me this ) so the merlin with 20 lbs thrust should be perfect.

RE: Avonds F15 - Elevons or Ailevator
Mark, You are obviously a man of taste as your colour scheme is the same as mine. Mine is 21.5 Lbs dry can carry up to 4 litres of fuel but I find that 3.25lbs is plenty for 7 mins flying plus groud running, taxiing etc, take off weight approx 26-27 lbs but with a Jetcat P120 (27 lbs) providing the push it has plenty of go. Mine weighs 21.5lbs dry and runs on a jetcat 120 one thing I don't have is the gear doors plus air system fitted, apart from that it is a standard set up. Nick

RE: Avonds F15 - Elevons or Ailevator
Been flying an avonds f15 for over 5 years now with tailerons only (think they should be called tailerons- think elevons applies to a delta - but that is for another post) no flaps it doesn't need them. Just set it up as per avonds instructions and you won't have any issues. Nick

RE: Classic Jets Arctic adventure
Dick, Apologies for not attending yesterday, we set off as normal but had to turn back after 30 miles, roads were awfull. On the way back we then found out that the M4 was closed due to heavy snow from Junction 48 to Junction 28 (a good 70 mile stretch) so would have been able to get much further anyway. Go home and did some build on my new toy for 2011. Merry Christmas to all and see you in 2011 Picture below is actually dual carriageway.

RE: AVONDS F-15
Vinceyboy, Would you be speaking of one Ron Burnett, if so his f-15 has a stunning paint job. I have met and chatted to Ron on many occasions at various shows around the country, a lovely guy. When I first saw his f-15 he let me look it over thoroughly and answered many of my questions on the f-15 as I was about to start my conversion.

RE: AVONDS F-15
I am currently flying a D/F converted Avonds F-15, I bought the conversion kit from Philip Avonds after speaking to him on the phone re the conversion. Mine is fitted with a Jetcat 120 and it's is fantastic, the only thing that you have to be careful of is doing high G turns at full power. The reason being is that D/F wings if built as per instructions have a piece of glass cloth top and bottom under the wing sheeting over the wing spar area, a "proper" turbine version kit has carbon fibre in this area and is stronger. I have never heard of any wing failure in this area on D/F or converted D/F F-15's, this was just a comment from Philip to be aware of it. I added some carbon fibre sheet to my fuzz for piece of mind in the following area's 1) From just behind the hatch to rear of fuzz (full width of fuzz top)) 2) From just in front of the main gear opening to the rear of the fuzz (bottom) 3) Around the the nose wheel opening 4) A 2" strip around the join of the nose section to the main fuzz These are probably not necessary but I did this when I was first getting in to turbines and thought it needed to be strengthened. The extra reinforcement hasn't really added alot to the weight of the model, it weighs 21 lbs dry Picture Of Mine

RE: Elevons????????????
I have been flying an Avonds f-15 for +5 years now, I have a Jetcat 120 fitted and have just got elevons and rudders as flying controls, you don't need the speed brake or flaps as it will slow down for landing easily without it, just set it up as per Avonds instructions and you won't go far wrong. Regards Nick

RE: JR 11X ZERO radio in UK
Dave, I have a DSX9 which was £450 ish, the new 11X is £650 ish (possibly cheaper if Duncan is correct) and the DSX12 is £1200 ish, why is the DSX12 so much more than the 11X you are basically paying £550 ish for an extra channel (or am I missing something). Nick

Henk, They would probably be too big as I have the same set in my avonds F15 (mine are 400 series) and they take 1/2" oleos and are much bigger dimension wise than the 300 series. Cheers Nick
