Re: Missiles?
Originally posted by PaPa-NeGeorgeo Although im part of MAAC not AMA im sure the rules for this are probably the same. What are the regualtions for model warplanes shooting out missiles? Is there commercial missiles for sale that are legal? If so where could i get them? Also would numerous servos/channels be needed to fire one the one missile from the aircraft? How hard is it to install it? Thanks for the responses, Papa
Looks like you haven't read the MAAC Safety Code ( www.maac.ca ) as it states just about the same as the AMA code. It's illegal and should never be attempted as you have NO control over the rocket, thus you don't know where it might go or what damage it may do including the chance of setting something on fire.

Control horn installations..
Originally posted by RCadmin Need some clever tips on this still... Any other good ideas to make sure the drill goes through straight with a 2 screw standard control horn? Drill press is no good when the surfaces are already glued and hinged on the plane. Also when the horn is up against the fuse closely what type of long drill bit or tool to use to make the hole since the bulky electric drill forces an angle since it can't get close to the plane? I usually miss getting the holes straight enough to line up with the backplate 50% of the time lately...
A pin vise with a number 80 drill bit works very well. It's small enough to get into tight places and the small bit doesn't remove too much material to make the threads not hold but allows the bolt to go through when screwed in - it is a very tight fit between the bolt and the material you drilled through.

Tip Floats
Help, I'm finishing off a Harpoon Flying boat but the tip floats are missing. I'm wondering as to shape - boat hull style or flat bottom; also height, should both floats be just touching the water or just one in the water. Also at what angle should one put the tips at compared to say the bottom of the wing/ Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: VMAR p51
Originally posted by guntop I had the p51. Good plane. Flew well but the covering was not good. on hot days the wing covering would wrinkle. ALmost felt like paper was wrapped around the wings
The covering is called Sure Seal and is made in Germany, it isn't shelf paper. Any ways the new Vmar kits are coming out with a covering that is made in Canada and actually is clear; the graphics will be printed on the under side thus you won't be able to hurt them like you can on most of the ARF's that are out there now. Also the production and quality control have been upgraded to help produce a better model and more designs are being released this year.

Removing decals
Originally posted by Graham Lighter fluid works well to remove the glue residue.
So does a match! Just couldn't resist as we play with enough stuff that's dangerous we don't need to introduce something else. Use something you are comfortable using and be careful.

LusterKote
One thing that seems to help allot and it works with all the brands of spray paint i've used is to shake the day-lites out of the can; put it a tray of hot water (not boiling or on the stove). Let it get warm, re-shake - re-warm the spray. The paint comes out of the can better, flows out very nice and sets (flashes0 very well with no orange peel. One thing I have found is to use the primer recommended by the manufacturer.

Re: bomb making 101
Originally posted by tbone4343 tank was designed and a no longer good after date on them compresed air has alot of moisture and tank not set up for this and will pop. by a cheap tank made for this purpose . stay safe! :D
The propqne tanks can be re-certified, the valve is changed, the tank is X-rayed for flaws and thin spots, if it passes the x-ray test then the tank is pressured up to 600PSI, it then sits for 48 hours and if the pressure doesn't drop a new certification number is stamped in the tank. The outside of the tank is sand blasted using glass beads as they don't remove metal - just paint and surface rust. The tank is then painted using epoxy based paints for durability. One of my companies does this, we do about 60 tanks a week.

Stuck on CA caps? How to remove them?
Allot of the CA manufacturers tell you that once it's opened not to put the cap back on. In most case the CA will stay fresh for a long time or you can store it in the fridge, just be sure to let it warm up to room temp. before trying to use it

Better check with your insurance company about the bomb. I don't know about the US rules but I Canada you wouldn't be covered by the insurance we have on our planes.

CA on Monokote- how to remove???
The 2 ways do work but why go through the expense of these products. wipe the area down with acetone, depending on how thick the CA is you may have to do it a few times. The Debonder and Trim Solvent are acetone based so why not just use the base without all the other un-needed additives.

Good Tutorial for glassing and types of Epoxies?
Are you looking for strength or just a way to cover the wood? Epoxy/resin ads strength, Polyurethane/latex ads no strength; it does hold the cloth in place so you can finish it with what ever paint you want to use.

Fuel-proofing TAMIA paints
If the Tamiya paint you are using is Polycarbonate Paint then it is already fuel proof. This paint is used for the car/truck bodies made of Lexan and used on glow powered vehicles. You don't have to caot it unless you want to increase the shine and a High Gloss Clear is available from Tamiya.

best way to remove paint from fiberglass
Soak it in brake fluid, won't hurt epoxyglass, fiberglass, or plastic. Just wash it off with warm water and a good dish soap a couple of times and it's ready for paint.

drying out fuel soaked balsa
What also will work, if you can't find K2R is put newspaper over the area and iron it with the hottest iron you can find. You may have to do this a few times but it does work, the paper acts as a blotter and the heat seems to dry the fuel out.

what pin cones on a wholemade prop balancer?
If you need the cones, why not try the washer that you can get for taps; you may have to bush or enlarge the hole but they actually are very true as far as consistancy in shape goe and hard enough not to deform very easily.
