I have had a few times where it did not take my paypal order the first time, I had to pay a different way, I am sorry but I don't remember the details. But if it does not show up on your paypal page, I would try again. Hope that helps Jon

Well, here is my finished workbench caddy, I still need to paint it and add some more hooks and such, but I am happy, did not cost much and it will serve a purpose. I probably should have spent more time getting it to look better, but I wanted quick.

I would love to join as well. I had a Tiger 2 40 size with a Webra 50 on it and it was a lot of fun. I am going to pick up a new kit this week and start building one or two with my boy so he has a plane to fly (he is eight and just starting to learn). Jon

Workbench caddy
I am thinking about making a workbench caddy to help keep my stuff organized on my workbenches. I think I am going to make it fairly big and I want it to hold glue, many different tools, my dremel, bits for the Dremel, my straight edge, sanding blocks and a few other things, anything that I might be missing or forgetting. I was going to make it fairly tall so that I can have a few small clamps. Thanks Jon

RE: Got my wings, what now?
I am not smart enough to explain well, but a plane with lots of dihedral will want to self right it self, as will a flat bottom wing (I don't remember if your wing has a flat bottom or not), but a wing with no dihedral will not have that tendency. Look at post 9 in this thread : http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_2158674/anchors_2162757/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#2162757 That might help.

RE: Got my wings, what now?
ORIGINAL: FlyingGatsby Quick question. I fly an avistar, and it has dihedral, will that make it more difficult to fly inverted?
YES, but that makes you a better pilot. It won't be pretty or easy, but if you can fly an avistar inverted for a while, you could fly most planes inverted easily.

RE: Electric Planes
I agree Gene, I think some of us older guys that are switching to electric have more issues. I have a 20 size stik that I made with an electric motor, anyways I had a rougher landing, I went over to the plane to look at it (make sure the hatch did not bounce off) and I bumped the throttle on my transmitter which scared the bleep out of me as I was holding the plane in the other hand, I need to get better about setting my throttle lock on my transmitter all the time.

I agree with all that has been said, I don't think North Carolina gets very cold, but if you have a inside closet or garage, buy a lipo charge sack keep them in there and if you are still worried, place them in a ceramic flower pot for storage.

RE: Guy digs out his basement using rc trucks in 9 years
What is interesting is my parents have a basement just like this guys. The soil is very hard clay and when the previous owners built the house they did not dig out the basement, just a crawl space. My brothers and I and my father hand dug about 1000 square feet of the clay that was between 4' deep to 8' deep, many, many wheelbarrow loads where hauled out.

RE: Telemaster engine??
John, do you think 2 old os 40's (fp's I think) would be enough on a senior? or maybe do three and have a tri motor? To answer the original posters question, I think the 65 would fly it, but you maybe would want a little more, either a standard 60 2 stroke or 70-90 four stroke. Jon
ORIGINAL: Gray Beard Great plane, good build and very ugly!!!
I would not say very ugly, not the prettiest plane out there, but a good flyer. I personally think profile planes are ugly, the ugly stik is ugly and my wife thinks (wrongly) that a Gee Bee is ugly, I suppose it is in the eye of the beholder and what one wants to get out of the hobby.
ORIGINAL: GraemeEllis [edit] Flew the model three times, no issue. In fact, I it seemed to be climbing a bit at half throttle like a flat bottomed model should. No water in the elevator this time - it was easy to check because I covered the bottom with transparent film this time!
Great to hear, if the symptoms did not return, then it is a good chance that the problem was some water getting in someplace, but you probably got that fixed. RE: Upgrading to a new radio
I guess it really depends on your budget and how much equipment you currently have. If you have a lot of rx's then I would just by new batteries (most transmitters don't come with batteries anymore) if you are confident that you will be in the hobby for a while, then invest in a good tx now. The biggest difference between 2.4 and 72 is one has to stay with the same tx/rx combo, you can't buy a futaba tx and a hitec rx. Personally I would recommend either Hitec Aurora from www.hobbyhorse.com or either a airtronics 8 or 10 channel. I would also look into "Life" batteries for your rx batteries. Just look around and ask questions. Jon
ORIGINAL: Gray Beard A question: Would it be a good idea to put foam inside my floats. I just finished one set but I just started another set so I could install foam in this set before I installed the bottom sheeting.
I would recommend putting at least some foam in, if nothing else if there is a major crash, it won't sink to the bottom as fast ;) to the original poster, my first thoughts were water getting into the plane or floats some way.

RE: Hitec Aurora9 or JR X9503 Which is better and why?
I am not going to help much, I would choose the Hitec, because I am on a tight budget. I would say, the only thing that would concern me is if either of the radios have a better or worse track record with kill switches on gas engines. I have heard a couple of "problems" with the hitec, but I don't have enough knowledge of the larger planes to make a judgement call. If budget is of little concern, I would go with Futaba.

I have bought some servo's for hobbypartz and have had good luck, but on "budget" servos I tend to buy metal gear or over powered. I need to find some more servos for a few planes I have on tap.

Sportmaster c of g and other
I am finishing up putting together a sportmaster, I don't have any plans or instructions, but the plane is mostly built, I need to hinge and other final touches. Does anyone know where the center of gravity should be? If I don't get any responses I will use 25% to start. Another question. Where the front wing dowel goes in, there is a lot of slope (1/4" or more) side to side (the hole is oval), I was thinking about adding some epoxy mixed with micro-balloons around the dowel (which would be wrapped in plastic) and let that sit up, is that a bad idea? Thanks Jon

Sometimes on mine, it takes it a couple of tries. I plug the cable into the back, turn on the transmitter, then wait a couple of seconds, then press the "data/tran" button on the right side, the click on the tpupil button. Hopefully that will help.
