It is really cool how this thread keeps "Popping" back up! It was gone since July of 2009 this last time. But, Rhubeus found it again and brought her back!

RE: In the National Airspace System (NAS), what class airspace do you normally fly in?
We are a little more than three miles away from our local airport which is a non-tower (uncontrolled) airport. We fly in Class G airspace. I thought it was E; but, once again was wrong.

Like how things look Abu! Stain wise, in the second photo, stains 3 and 4 (from the left) look good to me. Don't know if they're the right color for this airplane, I just like them. Great work! In the short time you have been involved in this hobby, I have to say, you are an extremely talented builder!!
ORIGINAL: Stickbuilder How about you, what have you accomplished? Bill, AMA 4720
Other then being an owner of a flying field for 14 years, provided gratis to the old club, officer and CD in the club I'm in now, fighting the good fight for the AMA, here on the forums, I have to admit, not much Stickbuilder and the last really has accomplished nothing! Whereas your side has likely contributed somewhat to the decline of the good name of the AMA.

Frank, I guess you asked for comments and got one! I wonder what are the chances people come here for the express purpose of arguing or trolling? Lets think about this! It costs $58.00 per year to be a member of the AMA. If you feel that this is to expensive; or, you are dissatisfied with the product/service the AMA provides, do not join. Talk to your insurance provider; or, do what ever

RE: Looking for a radio?
My opinion is that all radio brands are probably all of the same high quality. The manufacturers understand how fragile customer relations are and it is of the utmost imperative that the customer believes the manufacturer's products to be the best they can be. I would have no qualms about using: Futaba, JR, HiTech, Airtronics; or, any other brands of radio control systems available today.

RE: Mode 1 vs. Mode 2
Salinas Hawk, I started with .60 sized powered airplanes, made the change to Mode One..., I had found that Mode One seemed natural to me and had the benefit when launching sailplanes... launching the sailplane. So I stayed with Mode One. When I became interested in powered planes again... of the club I had been in and was proficient at Mode One and helped me through a few transition flights

flying Mode Two and if the majority of them would simply stop with this assertion that flying their way is more like flying real airplanes, I'd likely have less to say when this topic about Mode One vs Mode Two, comes up. This is especially true, when you consider that very few full scale airplanes

RE: Mode 1 vs. Mode 2
With That! I'll stay with believing my flying Mode One is exactly like flying R/C airplanes!... what your instructor fly’s, it's that simple. My choice is mode two for a number of reasons... would be somewhat similar to Mode Two. The Cessna time is similar to Mode Three, or Mode Four (unsure which...]RUDDER, how is this like anything at all, in full scale aviation? However, if you Mode Two guys

is: I fly Mode One, because that's how I was taught and you Mode Two fliers fly Mode Two, because...! I will say the question seems to bring out the most inane responses: one being better then the other, one is easier then the other, one is more like real then the other, one is better because the primary controls are on one stick, one is better because the primary controls are divided on two sticks, it goes

Reference has been made about Mode One radios not being available here in the U.S. Any radio... a Mode Two transmitter to Mode One: swap the springs on the Mode Two elevator with the ratchet on the Mode Two throttle. If the conversion takes more then this, send the transmitter to the manufacturer... converted to Mode One and all it has ever cost me is the shipping cost to where I sent

a few people, back when Mode One was more popular. I fly Mode One, because the 1st club I joined (TCRC in the Twin Cities) had more Mode One fliers then Mode Two fliers at that time. It was much easier to get help Mode One, then Mode Two.... that people do not ask to fly mine! Being a person who flies a different mode then the majority, exempts

RE: Mode 1 vs. Mode 2
Oh, and although I have no real interest in flying R/C helicopters, when I do fly one in my Real Flight G-3.5 simulator, I fly them Mode One! My Mode One instincts tell me pitch is controlled with my left thumb, so this is correct and natural to me. I have talked to other people who fly fixed wing, Mode One and helicopters Mode Two. I also know people who can fly fixed wing airplanes either mode

RE: Mode 1 vs. Mode 2
As my name should inform, I am a Mode One flyer, been so for 34 years. I also had my pilot's license. Attempting to link flying R/C and full scale airplane to one Mode or the other just doesn... slip or stutter! After flying Mode One for 6 years, I soloed a Cessna 152 in 9 hours and was a quick study as my understanding of R/C flight was a real asset to me! As far as skill and one Mode

RE: How to prevent / avoid midair collisions?
In all the time I have been flying, I've only had one and both planes came away from it with only minor damage (this was lucky, I feel). I've seen many happen, mostly during combat. I agree spacing and communication do much to ward off collisions. Use common sense! However, if you get involved in combat, it's much more likely to happen.

RE: If kits didn't exist ?
Since I build from plans, kits and also have a few ARFs, all that would change is I wouldn't be building from kits anymore. Now... if you were to take away building from plans, I'd go back to Model Railroading as building models is far more important to me then flying and assembling ARFs.

My experiences at the aerodrome.com seems much different then what has been mentioned! I am there daily and participate where I have an interest. Yes, there are "Forum Jerks" there; however, I've found those recognized experts to be more then willing to help me, when I've asked questions. Dan-San Abbott, in particular, seems very willing to be involved in dialog. I mostly visit the "Flying Models" thread.
