RE: 42% Super Decathlon Build
Ken and Ross, I guess I'll have to drive all the way to Bomber Field just to get to see that Decahlon of yours. (Actually I was going anyway) From the look of things it should be an outstanding weekend of beautiful planes. I missed last year due to working in Houston with hurricane Ike. See you there Saturday. RE: For those who love World War Two Fighters
vease, I love the scale detailed weathering you have done on your plane. I have always been a big fan of warbirds that look like they were in a war and not ones that look "Showroom fresh" Now having said that and meaning no criticism, your planes looks like its been thru the war but your cockpit looks like it just left the factory. Just thought I'd mention that so you might become aware of what others see. Keep up the great work and I'll be waiting to see more models from you. Keith

RE: Carl Goldberg Ultimate build
On mine, I have 85mm from engine centerline to left side of fuselage and 80mm to the rightside of fuselage. This would be looking from the front at the firewall.

RE: Scratch building 105" W/S Super connie L-1049 G
Just wondering, how can you claim that this is such a good deal when you have no knowlede of the cost to produce a kit from your prototype? Just the fact that you or anyone else even knows if it will fly would be a bit of a deterent. Perhaps it will be easier to sell a kit or two after you have finished your prototype and shown that the model will perform as expected. Watching this forum with interest, Keith

No, as I understand it those were engine or engine system failures. They didnt shut down good running engines ;)

RE: Scratch building 105" W/S Super connie L-1049 G
Ed, Seems that feathered engines on the Connies were somewhat common. Here are a few pictures my Dad took while in the Navy flying in a WV2 (Over 4000 hours). A couple "Normal" engines and a couple feathered on various flights. Early 1960's

RE: Pitts M12 26% plans available soon
Great looking plane, Congrats. Where did you get the color scheme, Is that from a full scale plane? Your right, it is exactly like the ARF. I dont believe the ARF's will take over the hobby, If you enjoy building then there is no reason to settle for an ARF. Good luck with your Pitts. Keith

Your project is looking great. I really like th evintage paint scheme that you are doing. I know all about the time it takes to mask as compared to painting. Here is a couple pics for your enjoyment of my Utter Chaos that I glassed and painted. Keep up your good work and get that bird in the sky ;) Keith

RE: Great Planes Reactor GP/EP 3D ARF .46-.70
kolarshooter, Thanks for the quick reply and info. I just checked the Saito website and found the Mounting Dimensions for the 100 are: 115 x 60 x 128 mm. For the .91 the Mounting Dimensions are: 116 x 60 x 117 mm. I presume the 117mm and 128mm are the length. Do you think there is about 1/2" to play with between the firewall and the spinner? Also what mods did you make to your engine mount? Thanks again......

RE: Great Planes Reactor GP/EP 3D ARF .46-.70
I flew my buddys Reactor that is e powered and WOW! Now I want one but being a glow flyer, I want to put a glow engine in it. The closest engine I already own is a Saito 100 4-stroke. Has anyone seen one of these with an engine that size? I believe it has the same dimensions as a .91 4 stroke. I would welcome any opinions or input. KM

RE: KAOS AND RELATED PLANES AND INFO
Thank you both for the kind comments. Yes it weighs in at 5.5 lbs, I'm pleased with that number because I had been worried that fully sheeting the wing, adding fiberglass, and then all of the paint would make it extremely heavy but it turned out fine. I paint for a living and really enjoy doing the custom paint jobs, R/C has given me another outlet to be creative. I flew it for the first time Monday morning and just after a couple of circuits to set the trims, I lost the back half of the muffler. I heard the tone changing of the engine so I set up for a landing, turning base to final, saw something fall off (The back of the muffler)but kept my eye on the model and just as it touched down the engine quit. Ohh, I wanted to fly again but with no muffler tip I had no back pressure to keep the tank pressurized so I had to pack up and call it a day. I'll have it back up again this weekend and can hardly wait to see what it can do. Keith Oh, and yes it is an Bridi Utter Chaos .40 I bought the kit from "Bluejay Airplane Kits" and was very pleased with the kit (And a good price too)

RE: KAOS AND RELATED PLANES AND INFO
I thought I'd include a few pictures of my Utter Chaos. Bluejay models kit, 6 weeks build time, I fully sheeted the wings then .50 fiberglass covered entire plane with thinned Z-Poxy finishing resin followed by a couple of coats of thinned spot putty. Paint is a combination of Dupont, PPG, and House of Kolors with Dupont Clear. Modified O.S. SX .50 Hyper and a finished weight of 5.5lbs. This is my second rc plane (My first aerobatic plane) With the power to weight ratio I figured I better have a good pilot, so J.C. resides in the cockpit........

RE: Balsa USA Super Cub Build
OK here are the hubs (With brake drums) and a tape measure so you can see the dimensions if needed. The brake hub shown in the other pictures with the brake pads fits inside the wheel hub on the inboard side. And with that, this will be the end of the brake pictures unless someone needs something in more detail. Keith

RE: Balsa USA Super Cub Build
Sprays like water doesnt it [;)] Looking at the diagram you posted on the brakes, yes they are deep like that to allow for baloon tires. If you were to look at the drawing and draw a straight line at the bead of the tire you will notice that the brake hub does stick out more than what would look like normal. I got done painting my Utter Chaos with all basecoat clearcoat colors over fiberglass cloth and finishing resin. Here are a couple of pictures (dont mean to hijack your thread with non-Cub pictures - So I'll throw in a cub tailwheel pic for you also) Keith

RE: Balsa USA Super Cub Build
Tony, here is a picture of the brake assembly out of the plane. The "ring" with what looks like a tire tube air valve is the flexible expander ring that "inflates" with brake fluid as the brake pedal is depressed. It is inside the backing plate and pushes against the brake pucks that you can see around the outer edge of the backing plate (There are six pads). The brake line routing in the picture of the yellow cub is correct with it leaving the backing plate and going directly into the gear leg inside the covering. However the brake line can also be run like the pictures of the L-4's. I forgot to check but I will measure the distance that the hub sticks out from the wheel and let you know. Hope this helps, Keith

RE: Balsa USA Super Cub Build
Tony, Yes what you have been told is true. My experience with the aircraft paints are that they are much "thinner" that automotive paint being that they do not have the solids that an auto painter would be used to. If you have experience shooting clear then you should be ok, as the colors shoot about the same way and will run just as easy. I would suggest shooting a test panel to get your gun and air pressure set right. On my Super Cub I am going to cover and fill the weave with polly brush and polly spray then paint with House of Kolor and Dupont base coat / clear coat paints (Pearl white and candy apple red)...
