RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 ARF
Maxi, I'm taking notes here. I did a few smooth flights too with no stressful maneuvers. Tail is still glued tight. I'm thinking about modifying that control arm in the tail. I might fashion and weld a "T" in place of the single bend. Then use two threaded eyelets. It might work as a pull-pull connector... and yes, being too tight wont let it work. Keep at it. MM

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 ARF
Maxie, I did post about rudder flutter. A pull-pull would solve the problem but I too, saw the same problems you did. I can't believe TF would build this without vertical supports for vertical stab. I don't do stunts with this plane yet, it still cracks the glue joints at the vertical stab. The problem I believe is in the flex of the push-rod. It's quite a ways from the rudder to the sevo up front. I'm using a seperate servo for the rudder and one for stearing. Yes, the rod is secured along the length but, it's just enough to flex and make the rudder resonate. Try your DuBro set-up and then report after a number of flights. Thanks, MM

RE: GP Waco?
Still seeing some tendency to try and nose over on landing. Could fuel sloshing back and forth cause a problem ? It's an 18 ounce tank. Could the mains be too far back, should they have been built about a 1/2 inch more forward ? mm PS, it's balanced right at the factory marks.

Hmm, Would'nt be a balance problem, could it ? I'll still try a 16 ounce tank and see what it does. In comparison, the GP Super Stearman has never come close to a nose-over and that being about 30 flights so far. Is the WACO tank about 20-24 ounces ? Any chance the main gear should have been built about a 1/2 inch closer to the nose ? MM

RE: GP Waco?
It does'nt appear to be a wheel binding or wheel rubbing up against the inside of the wheel pant problem. I use plenty of up elevator too. Sometimes an asphalt runway is'nt always that advantageous. Smooth grass runways have a lot of advantages, 'cept after a heavy rain. It's not a real problem per say, just something to be aware and ready to respond. Oh well, Seeya later, MM

RE: GP Waco?
Any of you guys experiencing a "nose-over" problem with this plane on landing ? The fuel tank is how many ounces ? My point is, landing with most of a tank full seems to cause a nose-over if it's not a smooth roll-out to stop should you have to turn abruptly. I've had two very near nose-overs with most of a full tank. I can't see having to burn 18 to 24 ounces each time I fly this. Should a smaller 16 ounce tank be considered ? OS 1.20 installed. MM

Howard, This plane deserves a good 4-stroke. My personal rule is - "2-strokes for speed, 4-strokes for torque". I'm sure many will dissagree but you decide. Mike, I too, have discovered a hairline crack on the leading front edge of LG. I had one kinda hard, bouncey landing. Not really noticable but there just the same. If you guys want a real "eye-ball" popper, price check some of the replacement parts for this plane........ WAY OVER-PRICED ! I always buy a spare set of pants and a cowl but this time........[8|] MM

And for Glow-Fuelers, like me, The OS 1.20 works just "Peachy". Only a few flights because of the strange weather here but, it's really a smooth flyer, just like the GP Super Stearman. They pretty much go hand in hand together. Both are very relaxing and enjoyable to fly. Just wish the winds would stop, it's howling at least 30 to 40 MPH gusts outside. What in the heck is going on ?. MM

RE: Corby Starlet
Both versions appear to be rare to have at this point. Tell me somthin', flying off an asphalt runway I tend to see a lot more bounce and as strange as it may sound, both versions seem to be much more easier to land with snow-ski's and/or floats. On slow, straight-in approaches on ski's, they are just as smooth to land as can be. Same with floats yet, on tires, they both wobble a bit and and seem to take a lot more effort to control smoothly. What gives ?. Running a 3.2 FOX and Saito .82. Neither engine misses a beat and they run very smooth. Since these are irriplaceable, I "baby" them both and give them the same care and polish as a full-scale. MM

Well, look's like it's the end of this thread. Strange how the kit WACO YMF can have over 500 replys, The Pica/Cox ARF somewhat less and the GP version only about 25. My excuse for not posting more is that we are having quite a bit of very high winds here in N. Utah. Very strange this year and just too risky to fly for now. Hope to hear from you guys. RE: Love that GBY
Well, it look's like I'll lean towards the G-38 and probably go with a Pitts style muffler. My main concern is the vibration. Like I said earlier, a FOX 3.2 shook this up pretty bad. Saito 1.80 just is'nt doing the job [ and the fuel it guzzles is quite bad ] I also prefer to steer away from a separate ignition battery. Magneto type will be fine. So there again, a G-38. Any more of you guys with input would be appreciated. This plane only has about ten flights and I'll post a photo of the strut re-inforcments. Does fly quite well too. Thanks for your response GGB's. RE: Love that GBY
Help, I have this plane and after trying a Fox 3.2 gasser, it nearly shook the plane to pieces. Then tried a Saito 1.80 and found it to be almost underpowered at 4500' altitude. Also it had an uncontrollable taxi speed even at the lowest possible idle with an 18-8 prop. So I hung the plane up and have lost intrest in it till now. Does this Zenoah 38 have a low vibration? Need some advice on this please. Saito 1.50 ia a fuel hogg and is not practical. This plane is just about brand new with installed sway brace on the main landing gear to prevent wobble. Please respond, Thanks, MM

Hey Guys, could the problem with the Hydramax Batteries be an isolated lot issue ? I don't mean to be the opposite, but, in eleven full years I have only had one bad NIMH out of over 100 batteries. The hole in the nylon control horn threaded onto the rudder wire appears to somewhat bigger than the pin on the Golden Clevis. My brain feels like it's starting to work again. OK, I'll try and machine a new one with a smaller pin hole and go from there. Thanks Jerome for your input, Seeya, MM

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 ARF
Here's a problem guys. There appears to be some play in the linkage connecting the pushrod to the tail rudder control horn, namely that small nylon tab threaded on to the wire for the rudder. That tiny amont of play I believe is causing some resonating flop of the rudder at certain speeds. On the last flight, it has cracked the entire vertical stabalizer at the glue joint so that it was just barely on after I landed. I could hear something flapping back and forth in flight, knew it was'nt right and landed quickly. POINT OF THE TALK IS, How can I remedy that play at the rudder control horn and the clevise connect ? I'm at 25 safe flights with this one and it's a great flyer. MM Yes, I saw the previous thread for a remedy, the problem is still there.

Fly's great ! Stalls straight ahead, no bad habits, tracks pretty straight on take-off also the same on landing. Powered by OS 1.20 using Zinger 16-6. Flying at 4500 feet altitude. If we do flying wires on the tail, maybe we should go all the way and install them on the main wings. Problem is they'll be a pain hooking up and disconnecting at the flying site. This one won't fit in a Dodge Carravan assembled. My Sig WACO SRE just barely fits and that's nice. Have any of you guys checked the wing incidence on your planes ? 0 on tail, 0 on lower wing, 1 degree neg on top wing with mine. MM

Hellcat, Excellent install, but are you aware that the area under your tailwheel screws is all balsa ? Even soaking that part with thin CA may not hold up from repeated landings and strain. Can you tell us if this area has been re-worked with a Basewood plate implant and epoxied ? I'm not trying to be rude, I simply care enough about your plane not to see any possible problem. If you have re-inforced it, great. Respectfully, MM
