RE: Are there constant load servos for flaps?
Interesting. I've had two power hd servos in two different planes burn out while using them on flaps being slowed down through my jr9303. I had no idea that this could be the cause.

RE: Edge 540 30CC
ORIGINAL: scvsteve I love the plane guys and the way it flies but it sometimes has a mind of it's own. When flying it tends to want to fly in a direction all by itself. Scary. I replaced the rudder servo because it would not center with a digital one with lots of torque and that did not change the way it flies. I have 133 ounce torque servos in the ailerons could that be the problem?. For instance I make a left banking turn and then to the right but the plane still wants to go to the left slightly. I have to fly the plane all of the time which is tiresome. I am new to the larger aircraft but is there something in my setup that I am doing wrong.
What brand of servos?

RE: Sig spacewalker 2
Ok, I'll try posting this again. Hopefully rcu doesn't time out again. I've found a nib kit and it's on the way to me. Already have all the radio and building accessories on hand along with 30 feet of 21st century cub yellow so that's what I'll cover with. Going with the standard scheme, but may use blue or green in place of the red. Biggest decision right now is what engine. One thing I know for sure is no glow for me. So that leaves either the Saito FG 30(180) or the FG 21(1.26). Was hoping to find a twin gasser small enough enough but only came across a 40cc which is probably too big. I'm leaning towards the FG 30, always nice to carry some extra power. Thoughts?

RE: Sig spacewalker 2
ORIGINAL: TomCrump Yes, I surface mounted the servos. I built the model as a flyer. I saw no reason to use Sig's complicated method to mount and hide them. So you caught me. I guess that I made some modifications. LOL Now that I think about it, I lined the area of the fuselage, where the front and rear sections are joined, with 1/32'' ply. This saved my model, once, during an unplanned landing. [8|] In my opinion, the Sig method is weak. The ply laminatiopn adds strength in this critical area. There may be more changes, but nothing critical. Outside of the fuselage joining, that is.
Not sure of sigs method, but I'm planning on mounting mine to hatches. Definitely no bell cranks.

Sig spacewalker 2
With the winter coming, I'm thinking about a kit build. I love my arf's but I'm getting the itch to build again so I thought of the space walker. I remember when I got into the hobby back in 91 seeing ad's for the plane in RCM and wanting one. After a decent amont of time In the hobby trying almost every discipline I find myself coming full circle back to relaxing sport flying. Now I know this kit has been around for awhile and most likely has many build threads but what I would like to know is, what are if any main things I should look to change or even just be aware of during the build. I'm hoping there are aftermarket FG cowls and other parts for the plane. Also, is the landing gear a pain to build? Is there someone that makes a better unit? Thanks in advance

Original 80" H9 cub refurb
I purchased this plane for my dad back in 1998, we used it as his trainer. Flew the airplane with a os.40sf. He passed away in 2000. We had the plane hanging at the wake. Since then it was in storage in my mothers attic, I never intended to fly it again. I recently pulled it down and brought it home with me for safe keeping. From all the years in the hot/cold attic it actually held up very well. The decals and all the windows came unglued. I decided to refurb it a bit and perhaps fly it once in awhile. I'm recovering is 21st century cub fabric, got a new cowl from Fiberglas specialties and putting a Saito .56 in it for power. Have to reuse the old windows, can't find replacements or them. Also going to put a more scale of gear and struts on it. I'm planning on modeling it after the full scale cub we owned together. Will post some pics of it in a bit. How's that for an older arf? 14 years old.

I used to use LI-ions in my iMac stuff, but when I got back into the hobby I didn't want to bother with the regulators and such so I went back to nimh. I guess I've been pretty lucky with my hydrimax packs. I will definitely try some more name brand life packs.

1st life battery attempt ends poorly
So after reading all the hype, I decided to try some of these life packs. I purchased 2-2000 mah and 1-1600 mah life packs fromm Bp hobbies along with the recommended charger. Charged all 3 packs and installed into two airplanes, 1-2000 for in one plane and 1-2000 for rx ,1-1600 for ignition in another. Put two flights on each plane. 1-2000 pack is fine, still reading 6.6v. Both packs in the other plane are dead. The 2000 is puffed and the 1600 is just dead. None were charged a second time. So that's it for me and life packs. I'll stick with my nimh which have never given me so much as an ounce of trouble. I'm almost ready to quit all together. It's seems quality across the board has dropped significantly in this hobby. All I seem to do anymore is battle with my equipment. Slightly frustrated as you can tell.

RE: Carbon fiber cloth supplier?
I guess stiffness, torsion and bending. I was always concerned this was a weak area. The plane flipped on landing the other day and when the vertical hit the dirt it looked like rear fuse was made of rubber because the entire tail section flexed so far forward.

I've got a glass fuse warbird (ESM fw-190) that I'm looking to laminate some cf cloth inside the rear fuse. Anyone know a good place to purchase a small amount? Also, what weight cloth would you recommend? I'm trying to keep it as light as possible.

Because my hobby budget has changed(married, not single, house not renting) I had to reel in my spending a bit so I was almost forced into cheaper engines. I now have 2 dle 30's, 1 dle 20 and 2 -55's. They have all been absolutely fantastic for me. The only changes I make are using ngk plugs.

RE: KMP / YT FW-190 Build Thread
ORIGINAL: kahloq Flew mine a 2nd time sunday. The prop in use, an 18x8 is just too much for the saito 180 and flies the plane way too slow at 7100 rpms. Static speed comes out to 53mph and I doubt the plane was flying any faster then that. It struggled to do a standard roll. A friend lent me a graupner 16x8 and we'll see how that does next time. As far as the landing gear...Ive not had one issue landing the plane as mine wants to float in rather well at idle and full flaps.
I've got to try and lighten mine, it doesn't even come close to floating in. Going to remove the heavy ESM metal wheels and ridiculous pilot I've got in mine, I'll bet I drop a pound out of it. Mine is a real challenge to fly.

RE: GP Waco?
Maidened today. What a great flying airplane! Love it, a real floater and looks the part in the air. Though I have to say, the 30 is alot of power. Unlimited vertical and the engine isn't even close to being broken in yet. I'm all for overpowering aerobatic aircraft but I think in this case the 30 is overkill. On my third flight, the fuel line was rubbing the cylinderhead (couldn't see it) and caused an engine out in a bad spot. Landed a little long and went off the end of the runway, from the racket it made as it flipped over in the high grass I though for sure it was done. When I got to it, was pleased to find only a single little crack in the left wheel pant and some dirt on the wingtip.
