RE: Homemade monster servos
I don't remember sayin that mate. I spent 9 yrs as a Auto sparky.... Pwr window motors are good for fwd + rev, but don't have as much grunt as a wiper. depends on the vehicle it came from, too. Say, an ol' Telstar (mazda626) window motors had a gear drive (window regulator had a 1/4 segment gear with scissor lift) they weren't too bad Of course, I also repaired windows for a RR silver shadow (same age as a HQ Holden) man if you had your head out the window, these were like a guillotine!! older pommy cars had shunt motors (wire wound field coils) like Austin 1100's , jags, and the like. these days they're all permanent magnet field jobs. You'll have to take a look around the wreckin' yards, and see what's gonna be best. I don't remember trashin' these motors of any sort; if I did, then I apologise. My trade background in this area would't let me say they are no good mates. The job you guys are doing is great research for fellas who don't have the dough for the top notch Jap servo. The skys the limit once the schem is done...possibly end up with something stronger than the $$$ version. I have seen our German engineer friends get their jollies by saying "I created THIS machine!!" An Aussie might make the same thing (no oil painting, mind you) and just say "yeh, it works"

RE: Quarter Scale Dragster
well the pipe has the busted seam fixed up...... waiting for that to cure after this, the rest of the pipe will be smeared with the $$$$ putty, over plasterer's tape/mesh. Maybe then we'll do some more bench tests, I spoke to my LHS, my DX3 will be coming after Xmas (can't spend ANY dough right now)[:o][:o]

RE: Something crazy THE REBUILD
Mate I was thinking about rear wheel arches for your car.....2 or 3L coke bottles (PET) could do the job......I cut an orange juice bottle for my 1/10 cars and threaded the antenna wire through it shoelace style so the antenna stayed inside the car. The PET bottle is impervious to petrol, thinners, nitro, etc 2 empty bottles could save your engine and weighs bugger all

What receiver? 3 ch or more? a servo only has a short throw so thats why I thought a sail winch might work....But as you know, on RC yachts the main sail doesn't go up at a hundred miles an hour..[sm=wink_smile.gif] will you use a servo or winch to release?

RE: Quarter Scale Dragster
1/10 nitro belt tensioner + Hi tec sail winch + a golf umbrella... All other stuff is hand made mate have a look at the you yube vid... theres some video and photos of it on there remove the umbrella from the frame I had the missus sew some extra material where the eyelets were hammered in the "string" is polyester cord (like the stuff they tie the pens to the counter at the bank) PET cord has some stretch in it (will be a little elastic when chute tensions the cords, instead of a shock load) 8 cords 4 a side 4 into 2 2 into one use a little heat shrink and super glue (CA) at the points to keep the cords neat tie L+R cord assemblies to an eye bolt at the back of the car release is a velcro strip operated by 3rd channel I imagine I'll have to release the chute as soon as I leave the start line, cos it takes a bit of time to unwind....getting that timing down pat will take some practice on my part thats all there is to it mate there's more likely a simpler way, I just went with the first thought that came to mind

Once all the trimmings are on the frame, are you going to powder coat it, or paint it at work? Black, I am assuming? Looking good mate, glad to hear work has picked up for you, too.
