Saito 100 or 115?
I noticed the 115 has a shorter stroke and bigger bore than the 100 and that usually means more top end and less bottom end torque. Has anyone used both engines and have a opinion on power delivery? Would you even notice a difference in power between the two motors? I am going to use it in a 3d plane. Opinions?

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Thanks for the reply. I don't plan on flying fast with it at all, I just want it to rocket out of a hover very well. Any tips on landing gear? I fly on a field that the grass is a bit long and its kinda rough. There doesnt seem to be any way to beef it up from above it because og the lack of access.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Anyone fly a .46 UCD with a Saito 115? I just picked up a .46 UCD and am trying to decide on an engine. I was looking at a Saito 82 but I like a lot of pull out.

RE: hanger 9 tribute
ORIGINAL: geeter hey guys, anybody out there in r/c land flying a hanger 9 tribute 3-d plane. this is .32 -40 powered nitro plane from horizon and a few other retailers. pretty good looking plane ....not foam . a nice little plane to hover on, and not burn up a ton of fuel either...thanks for any input. i would guess it takes standard servos. it doesn't say on the website i don't think.......GEETER
It hovers great and takes standard size servos. This plane lands slower than any trainer I have seen. It consumes very little fuel (floats around just above idle). If its your first 3d plane and you have a computer radio I would set your control throws at 1/2 of the suggested low rate settings and set normal throws for high. Fly it around and get used to it then increase throws till you hit the 3d rates when comfortable. I fly with 2 other guys and we all feel that the Tribute floats and lands much smoother and easier than a trainer, its just far more responsive.

RE: hanger 9 tribute
I love my tribute. I have a 46AX on it and the battery mounted just behind the canopy in the fuse. I used two foam pads behind the tank and put a couple fuel line strips behind the foam padding and I have no issues with foaming. My prop gets beat up a lot with the rough grassy field I fly in so i know its not balanced and still no foam issue with the foam and line. Also I used rubberbands and paperclips to secure the fuel tank. Mine has survived quite a few flights doing blenders and violent movements non stop. I keep waiting for it to break because I have heard several reports but mine has been very durable. This is a very fun plane to fly when its overpowered and if mine breaks i'll buy another for sure. I know the Mojo is better for 3d, but this plane is a solid performer and for the price its awsome.

RE: Which plane? Twist 60 or UCD 60
ORIGINAL: wind junkie No serious 3D flyer would recommend either of those planes. They have survived this long only because they are mass marketed and have some appeal for those who absolutely will not fly profile planes or the better performing (but more expensive) lighter alternatives. One point about the Saito 125: There are several of them in our club and while they are good for powering 7-7.5 lb 3d planes like the OMP Fusion they suffer from the trait that the larger Saitos have in they don't spool up as fast as the smaller ones. The new 115 is in the same league as the 72, 82 and 100 when it comes to ''right now'' power. The 125 is more like the 150 or 180 in that you get the power, but the plane won't ''jump'' out of a hover. If you want that sort of activity in a 4 stroke larger size you need to open your wallet even wider and jump into the YS regime (ie 110 ). Not that it should stop you from buying the motor, but speaking as one who owns and operates many of the saito engines, I have come to learn and appreciate their longevity and other qualities. Joe
Thank you for the tip on the 125. I will lean towards the 115 now. I wasn't locked into getting a 125 and I wanted to stay away from the YS engines because of the tuning being tougher than a Saito.

RE: Which plane? Twist 60 or UCD 60
ORIGINAL: daveopam You said ''sport/3D''. Neither of these planes does both well. the UCD is made for 3D (it's not the best) and the Twist is more for sport. So buy the one you do the most of. If you are open to other suggestions I can give you a better choice. David
I'm always open to suggestions. I have a Tribute with a 46ax on it now so I was looking for something that has a normal fuse and not so much a profile.

Which plane? Twist 60 or UCD 60
I'm looking to get a 60 size plane for sport/3d and have narrowed it down to these plane. I know this is a personal prefrence type of question, but which is a better choice and why? I plan on using a Saito 4 stroke which will lead me to my next question of what size saito? I was thinking the 125 but am open to suggestions. I would like great vert and like flying an overpowered plane, but not so overpowered that it throws the balance off where I have to add much weight to balance it.

RE: Plane for .46 two stroke
As posted earlier, give the Tribute a try. It flies and lands much better than a trainer but with the 46AX it has unlimited vert and just floats around the sky.

OS 55 ax Deadstick problem.
I flew my Escapade last week and the new 55ax ran great. This week it is 20 degrees warmer and more humid and it deadsticked everytime. The motor is new with about 5-6 tanks run through it. I tried Setting the needle at 500 rpm less than peak then went richer on the next couple flights but same result. I tried a new glow plug also. The deadsticks seem to happen when I slow down and fly at about 1/8 to 1/4 throttle the motor just shuts down. Breaking it in it would never die out even when it was very rich and loading up,no deadsticks.I did not touch the low speed screw. What do you guys think I should try next? It runs great on the ground and at full throttle flight and even 1/2 throttle seems good, and it even transitions pretty good considering its not broken in fully yet. I have a 46ax and it never had this problem.

Lipo reciever packs and reciever??
I noticed that the spec on the Spektrum AR500 and AR7000 both say 3.5-9.6 volts. Does this mean I can use a lipo or life pack without a regulator? Will the reciever regulate it down to 6v for the servos,or can the servos handle the extra volts? I would like to switch my planes over for the weight savings. I know how to charge then because I have used them in cars before, I am just wondering if the servos and reciever can take the li fe and li po packs.

Opinions on Magnum 4 strokes please
I was thinking about picking up a magnum 4 stroke (70 rfs) and wondering if they are good motors? Do they hold a tune and are they user friendly? Should I just spend the extra $ and go with a Saito or O.S.? I have been flying O.S. 2 strokes for a while and they run great and hold tune perfect but I have one that is in need of replacement so I was looking to try a 4 stroke.

RE: AR500 in a $500 model?
I have 2 of them and in my planes and never had an issue. One guy I fly with has on in his plane also and never had any problems. I have a AR7000 in my other plane, and notice no difference at all in them.I wouldn't hesitate in using one in a higher dollar model. If something causes a crash it is rare that its a reciever issue anymore with the new tech.

RE: Hangar 9 Tribute 36 PnP ??
I have a 46AX and a 55AX,i'm going to install the 46. Anyone else here have a BB .46 in this plane? How much weight did it take to balance out the .46? I hate to add weight but I don't want to cut the covering to move servos or batterys around. Anyone have a similar set up that can share their experiance with weight and prop selection?

Avistar or Escapade for 2nd plane?
I have flown a Duraplane trainer 40(flying brick) and have my eye on the Avistar or Escapade. What plane is going to be easier to fly? I have spent some time on G5 Simulator and can fly and land about everything but have never flown any other planes than the Duraplane. I hear the Duraplane is heavy and harder to fly than most trainers because it is fast but I can fly it pretty good,so what do you guys think? Anyone flown both these and can compare them? I'm getting bored with the Durabrick and would like something that actually looks like an airplane. I am self taught with several crashes in the beginning, and the Duraplane is getting pretty ragged looking but I have been flying/landing without issues for a while, and can do basic areobatics ( loops, rolls, inverted flight, inverted loops etc.) What should I buy next?

Recommend a prop for light plane.
I'm sticking an OS 55AX on a Hanger 9 Tribute and would like a good 3D prop.I'm not concerned with speed,I'd like great vert. The plane should weigh right at 4lbs give or take a couple ounces. I know the airframe won't survive long with the 55 on it but I didn't want to buy a .36 yhat would never see use on anything else.I figure if I don't do any speed runs it might just last a little while.

RE: 2 Stroke R. P. M. To High ??
Don't we all! I was trying to hover a 40 size with a LA 40 and it was amusing but it just wouldn't hold it there for more than a couple seconds before the nose went south in a hurry. I didn't experiment with different props either though so you might just have better luck. I would guess that because the 60 size isn't a whole lot heavier than the 40 but the 65 puts out a decent amount more power you might have a little better luck, but I wouldn't think it would have enough to pull out or hang there long. Maybe someone will chime in that has tried this combo. I am seriously considering the UCD 60 foe my next plane and would like to hear any feedback on this also.

RE: 2 Stroke R. P. M. To High ??
I might be wrong but I don't think the LA is going to cut it if you want to hover the UCD. I have a couple LA's and they run great, tune great, and hold a tune but they are no powerhouse. Id keep it at least one mistake high and experiment to see if it holds or falls out but I wouldn't try to hover to low without a decent amount of pull out power and the LA is kind of lacking in that department.

RE: Begining out (again)
Looks like the U.S. Aircore trainer is discontinued now. There aren't any "crashable" trainers left that I'm aware of now. I have a Duraplane (now discontinued) and it was fun to learn and crash on, and took a ton of abuse for a self taught flier like me. There are a few Electric trainers out right now that are ready to fly, just surf around Tower Hobbies and Horizon Hobbies and you will find a few.

RE: O.S. 55AX opinions
ORIGINAL: jimmyjames213 may i ask what 3d plane, if its the mojo .40 or similar then any .46 is more than enough power, the gms i put on mine makes the plane a rocket w/ a 12.25x3.75 prop so take that engine off your trainer and stick it on your 3d plane, throw the new engine on it and fly for a few gallons, then throw it on the 3d plane. i crashed my mojo at least 10 times until i learnt this lesson (luckily the gear took the hit most of the time)
Its going in a Hanger 9 Tribute but I want it to be able to pull a You can Do 3d .46 out of a hover because I am about to order one soon. I know it is way overkill for the Tribute but if I buy a .36 it will be worthless in any other (heavier) .40 plane. I know i'll have to stay below 1/2 throttle in the Tribute or the airframe will come apart. I know the UCD isn't the greatest 3D plane either but I hear it floats like a trainer and i'm comming from a trainer (Duraplane) which flies like a brick, and I've been practicing on Realflight G5.

O.S. 55AX opinions
I am looking to buy a good powerful motor for a .40 size 3d plane and the 55AX is looking mighty tempting. What are your opinions on these motors? Do they tune easy and hold a tune? Is there any other .40 sized motors that are as powerful? I was looking at the TTR pro .46 but like the idea of the extra power of the 55AX. I just don't want a motor that is a pain to tune.
