ORIGINAL: Condor060 We will be using Troy Builts new electric retract system. I will send pics when it arrives.
Did you get the gear yet? I was planning on getting this set up and I am not sure what gear I will use, Robart has the electric 630 series out, but I'm not sure if it will fit.... Also, do you think you will have any cooling issues on the motor? One last question and it might be a stupid one...lol I like how you added the screen on the scoop, with it open like that, do you have any plans to do something with the air coming in, or you going to put something over the back to close it off? ST, got ya on the servos. What motor are you running in yours again? I will let you know where my batteries end up, my hope is the ignition bat goes up forward of the tank and the RX bats end up aft the tank where the ignition bat is now.. It's a nice spot to make a battery tray, but we know that never works out like we want.. I do plan on putting smoke on it this winter, long as i feel the extra weight won't hurt how shy flies...
ORIGINAL: landeck If it is the 40 size GP Cherokee, I am running the same configuration (analog servos, not digital power hungry servos) with 1000 mah 4.8 volt NiCads. Of course I am using a Futaba 2.4 ghz radio so voltage is not as critical as in at least one other 2.4 system. I can get 3-4 flights without problem. Depending on your servos and radio you should be ok for 2-3 flights before recharging. Be sure to check your battery with ESV or a VoltWatch before each flight. Bruce
2/3 flights out of a 600mah with 7 servos, sorry but I disagree and on any 2.4 system, you drop bellow 4.8 and you crash.. Now i could be wrong, but that is what I was told by many... I have used the 600mah pack setting up a plane with futaba and ran the pack low, the receiver turned red and i had no connection between the RX and TX, it was no big deal because i just use that small battery for setting things up.. Had it been in a plane, totally different outcome! To the OP, instead of setting up a twin packs with two switches, just get a bigger size pack and your done.. depending on the size you go with, you can get several flights in and slow charge the pack at home like they should be... All of my Nicds go on a 15 hr charge when i get back from the field, then it automatically goes on trickle. Then the plane can git there for weeks and are ready to fly when I am, never have to use a quick charger at the field either... Just my two cents on it.. Jimbo

I am sure that folks use the stock battery and end up crashing because of it... I have several of those packs and all I use them for is a bench battery when I am setting up a plane. If you want to stay with 4.8 nicd go with a bigger pack, I run some 4.8 1700mah packs in a few planes and they work fine...
ORIGINAL: MTK
ORIGINAL: BarracudaHockey If you fill through a Tee fitting you generally have an automotive type fuel filter on your filler line. Most folks I know do at least.
On my Tee'd set-up, my fill line from the flight box has 2 standard glow fuel filters (Dubros) on it. That seems adequate; I have had no problems with dispensing avgas, 3+ years now and 4-5 different engines. Maybe autogas is a little dirtier than avgas and requires more filtering. One thing certain, filtering is cheap insurance for maintaining a clear carb!! Jim, did you get the fittings?
Not yet buddy, haven't got today's mail yet though.. If I like your fittings which I am sure I will, I will probably order several sets to have on hand.. I am phasing out my glow stuff and going to all gas or Electric and will be making my tanks from now on, so having them on hand will be a good idea..

RE: Work Bench Finish
ORIGINAL: dasintex I built a work bench using Cabinet Grade A/C Birch Plywood; originally I had finished it Natural Color and sealed it with Minwax Water Based Poly-Urethane, which was a mistake because everything eats away at it; I want to sand it down and re-finish it with something that is: Resistant to Glow/Gas Fuel, Alcohol, Acetone, Paint Thinner, etc; any suggestions?
Are we talking just the top, or the whole bench? That is some nice plywood you used, use it all the time on cabinets... Something I did for the top and you might like the idea.. I topped the plywood with 1/4" hard board, I just used screws and counter sunk them.. I then used plank flooring I had left from a job and installed it with a pressure sensitive adhesive, if I ever want to replace a board, heat it up with a heat gun and pull it off. no need to re glue, just put the new board in... I also like that it's soft enough to cut covering on and not damage my blade... Just a thought for you. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11012137/tm.htm

I ordered the new 1.5" aluminum arms for everything and also got a new arm for the rudder, just better all the way around and worth the extra $$...... ""Locktite on Metal gear servo screws, don't skip this step""
I took a new 50cc Pitts out to a fun fly yesterday, I wasn't going to fly her but more of a show and tell and to run the new motor a little.. I always use locktite once I am all done adjusting my servo arms, just a small drop on the screw.. Well yesterday was proof that you better not skip this step.. I didn't have any on mine, I knew I wasn't flying her and still need to take the arms off for final tweaking.. While the motor was running I did a range check and the top right ail. locked in the down position. I did a quick check and the Home page of the leading discount RC screw distributor for model builders. screw had came out far enough for the arm to slip off! Now this was no big deal, but had it been in the air, it would have been a huge deal as it was locked in full deflection... This servo screw did it again even after I tightened it up so I need to see if there is something else going on with it... Any way, use locktite on your MG servo screws! Nothing happened to me, but if this thread saves one person their pride and joy or someone from getting hurt from a out of control airplane, then it was worth the time it took to type it! I always use blue (medium strength) on mine, if you have a better tip or way you do it, would love to here about it... Jimbo
ORIGINAL: scale only 4 me After 1/2 to 1 gallon you'll propably have to tweak the needles,, mine was just a little rich on the low end after the first few tanks. Try this,, Put as small an arm on the servo as you can to max out your ATV or end points. Then cheat the servo arm position to have the arm further away from 90 degees at idle, and closer to 90 degrees at full throttle, that will give you more expo or throttle curve on the low end. Good luck
Thanks for the tips, Scale............. For anyone reading this and you don't know about using locktite on your metal gear servos... RE: Goldwing 50cc Pitts Python V3.
I took the pitts to our fun fly today for some show and tell and to run the motor some and ran she did.. After I primed it I opened the choke and she spit on the third flip, closed the choke and one flip it was running.. I tell ya, the factory setting's on the carb are pretty spot on, I didn't check the R's but it sounded great.. I didn't want to run it to much on the ground, so I shut it down after a few minutes and the temp gun read 174... I ran it again later on in the day and decided to range check the radio, no problems there... My list of things to do before we take it to the air is pretty short... Need to balance here. Check the incidence on the top wing, the stab and bottom wing are right on the money. Adjust all the throws and set up my triple rates.. I need to re adjust the throttle servo, I have it set wrong.. I get way to much response out of the motor with each click on the stick, I will redo the end points. I did it the fast way so I could bring her to the field today, any tips on this and I am all ears... Other then going over everything else with a fine tooth comb, I think it's about ready.... I did dumb thumb my little EDF in on landing, should have never flow that dang tiny airplane today.. It was windy and very cloudy, but no excuse, I zigged when I should have zagged. It's fixable enough!

I limped it the rest of the way to the hobby shop and waited for the tow truck, got it repaired, my tension pulley went bad, That is what caused it all to go fubar... I got my batteries though and will get them in after dinner.. The Power expander looks pretty straight forward.. RE: Goldwing 50cc Pitts Python V3.
Well we are just about done with this plane, here is a sneak peak of her still down in the shop. I am taking it to a fun-fly tomorrow to run the motor some and show it off a bit.. I am picking up my batteries today, i went with two 2100 LIFE packs on the RX and a 1700mh 4.8v Nicd on the ignition.. I still have to balance and do final hook up's to the smart fly and install the remote kill switch on the ignition. Also, now that the graphics are on the cowl/canopy, I can finish the paint and clear coat. I wil work on that after the fun-fly... Scale, I am sure I will have just a few more questions for you on the Smart-Fly.. also, the one piece wing worked out great. it's much stronger and will set up faster at the field.. Thanks for all of your tips, I really appreciate it..

RE: Goldwing 50cc Pitts Python V3.
Well I am pretty much screwed on changing the location of the elv. servos, got sick of messing around and went to move them and I can't.. Above the servo locations is a stringer and the deck of the fuse, if i cut into it, the whole back end would be weak.. The only choice now is to cut off the horn and go with a bolt type horn, I will make that decision after a few flights... I made the top wing one piece, the 3 piece stock design was weak and mine didn't line up for nothing. There are some pics back in this thread showing the gap i would have had... Any how, I made hatches on the bottom of the center section to make my connections at the field.. They are held in with magnets and will stay attached to the wire running down the strut.. I picked up some 3/4" yellow shrink tube to attach the wire to the strut, it will work like a charm and you won't see it in less you are looking for it...
