RE: 2102 FAI/F3A EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP
I wish they make a coverage like the Austrians did two years ago. it was very fast, and the amount of information about scores, processing, equipment etc was very complete

RE: Toxiris
Derek is it really possible for lets say "normal pilots" to fly this plane as slow and close as Mayr makes them fly? or is it required to be flown a litter faster and farther? thank you Marcelo Velez

RE: P13 F13
Hello Keith! I think this should be clarified only after sporting codes are officially released by FAI. I use a lot Peter Uhlig's presentations as I find them an invaluable source of information and guides to perform better. see the slide where he states: Between part rolls in opposite direction there must be no line. but still speculations until the maneuvre execution guide in the sporting code is officially released. not sure how much the real thing is going to differ from the meeting minutes... happy flights!

RE: P13 F13
As I understand Peter Uhlig's powerpoints (because there is no official sporting code yet with a maneuvre description) there should be no line between the reversals. It should be as if the model bounces once the 1/4 roll finishes it should bouce the oposite side to the next 1/4. as I understand it and as we have been practicing, this bounce (with no line) is the center of the opposite 1/4 rolls. the point where the roll direction changes should be the center. are we wrong?

RE: Bipe versus mono at altitude
We fly in Bogota, Colombia at 8100 ft and we can state that the difference is huge. You need to fly faster and of course change your rates, expos, mixes, everything if you come from sea level. once we got to the USA for the worlds, we had to make a new model on the radio and retune everything. It is much harder to keep constant speed up here since the model dives like a stone on downlines, and the plane stalls a lot on snaps, so you need speed and power to keep the tail from not going down. It is also a little harder to stop the reversing spins. it is much harder to keep the tail from not dropping on rolling maneuvers, specially on the horizontal ones. A good thing is that it teaches you a lot on throttle management. of course it takes a higher speed to take off and land. A little more wing area and a little thicker airfoil would help planes behave better. What is absolutely clear to me, is that current F3A planes have lots of troubles flying at this altitude. Conditions are very different. I also think that a Bipe in altitude is a good option, even with the crosswind handicap, the final result might end positive. As you can imagine, we take every possible chance to fly at lower altitudes, and I have around three different setups for different alttitudes (in Colombia you can go from 900 ft above sea level to 8100 ft in a three hour drive). In our experience, flying at Zebula altitude, is not very much difference to what most people is used to fly at sea level. there will be changes for sure but not substantial. now flying at 8100 ft. that is another story... YOU ARE ALL WELCOME! regards Marcelo Velez Colombia

RE: Toxiris ARF
there is nothing I do not like on this plane, and if it flies just 50% of how the toxylen flies... it will be a winner. Even though Mayr took the Toxiris to the worlds he never flew it. can't wait for the flight reports good luck Derek! Marcelo

RE: Help on Cellpro 10S
Guys thank you very much for your imputs. the PQ and TP female plugs are indeed in paralell and that is running ok. I'll give a try with somebody else's paddles and let you know. one strange thing is puzzling me is how two separate components fail at the same time, the same way... still makes me think there is something wrong inside the charger. so far, next step is trying another paddle... thank you again! RE: Help on Cellpro 10S
Ok, first of all thank you for your help! I did al the suggested tests and these are the results: there is continuity between the center jacks of the charger. This means the fuse is OK and the problem is not this fuse below the charge jacks. now the strange thing is happening on the balance paddles: first of all, I have never understood why you need to plug the paddle to the charger using the long bus from the TP side of the paddle even though i connect a blue lipo (polyquest connector) to the polyquest side of the paddle. but anyway, it has allways worked this way: battery balance plug to the polyquest port and paddle connected to the charger from the TP side of the paddle. 1. there is full continuity between the Poliquest port and the TP port of the paddle in the 5S port. Not long bus but between the female conectors 2. then I plug a 5S battery to the polyquest side of the paddle and then plug the astro blinky volt check at the end of the male TP side of the paddle and I only get voltage in three of the pins. like there is no continuity from the TP female conenctor of the paddle to the male connector that fits into the charger. I'm trying to post a picture to show it. now if I check continuity from the tp side of the paddle to the connector that goes to the charger, I get continuity except on the black wire. it is very confusing the way this is behaving. but what is clear is that no voltage is arriving to the charger trough the paddle. now, one could think that the paddle is faulty. BUT BOTH PADDLES BEHAVE THE EXACT SAME WAY. and both paddles failig at the same time the same way is really odd... Now... any other Ideas? thanks for your help! Marcelo

Help on Cellpro 10S
Hello: I have been using the Cellpro 10S successfully for the last 5 months. Last sunday as I was unplugging a full charged battery, an arc jumped in the female deans connector (the battery). i checked Internal resistance, voltage and balance and it was OK,. then i flew the pack with no problem. when I tried to charge the following pack (a different one) the charger showed me a safety code called: "safety code 70" which in the manual states for: 66-71 Series switch close failure The manual says that to solve this error I should try connecting the pack to the banana jacks and node connectors without using the plug blocker. I never use the plug blocker since I charge 10S batteries at 5 A which does not allow the use of the plug blocker. I have never used it before. The manual does not offer any further help.. I have the feeling that the arc or shortcut could have jumped internal circuits to make the charger think I have the plug blocker on. I was wondering if I there is any hope to solve this on a software way. I'm writing this to Revolectrics right now, but I'm pretty sure this might be faster. Any Ideas on how to solve this matter? Thanks in advance Marcelo Velez

RE: Demographics
I agree with Alejandro, and by the way there are some other branches of RC modelling that are more "show style" which is pretty much what young kids want today. when a kid can impress a lot with a helicopter flying it at school or with friends, and he would bore to death an audience with an P sequence. it takes discipline, tolerance to frustration, dedication, studying and many other thing most young kids do not have. it is indeed our task to involve young kids in pattern... what is each one of us doing for this? regards Marcelo

RE: would a carbon fiber rod be strong enough to hinge a removable rudder?
I would not select this material for this application since a carbon rod is really poor holding shear stress as well as this type of friction. I use a 0,5 mm music wire on my Xigris C1. Now if delro puts it on their kits, it is a different story and it surely works... good luck!

RE: Well, It Had To Happen-
one thing puzzles me and maybe somebody who reads japanese can help me. I see the bigger option as the OMA 5025-375. I assume it is the FAI 2M x 2M option since it has 8 mm shaft (same as plett) and it has a very similar support holes arrangement. nevertheless it looks like it is only 405 g (it is the only measurment in grams that appears there) if this is a 2M x 2M engine for a 5000 g pattern plane with somewhat 3000 W or so watts, It will for sure hit Plett and Hacker directly in the main tower: WEIGHT. any Japanese reader who can help? Hello: I posted some insights the tcan in a thread about Akiba´s new plane: Fantasista. mine is installed on th cockpit, two hatch latches required and some internal reinforcings in the cockpit. screwed with 2 1/4 in screws. some pics are when the plane was from its former owner :) Marcelo

RE: A newcomer to the full-size F3A models
if you already know you'll have weight problems i'd go with a plett motor, wether it is the advance or the 30-9. it is a very light option in both cases. i'd also go with the new G6 TP 4500 mAh. we are using 4000 mAh zippy lightmax but if you have some cross wind taking the plane out and you need to fly big, you'll abuse them. therefore, you need to be very careful on throttle managment. if you are considering 5000 mAh. also consider F3A unlimited batts are very good and light for rx batt a 900 mAh batt will last more than 8 or 10 flights per day. Powerbox is also a good choice... I'd suggest you not to use hobby king batteries for RX. the 900 rx batt is around 20 to 30 usd on thunder power. not worth the risk. i also use the BLS servos and i can only tell you they are AWESOME... good luck on that! RE: Akibas Newest Ride
I think the T can is necessary evil. on its good sides you have: very powerful rudder effect (see the picture of my rudder on full deflection on normal condition ) with this rudder I make all the P-11 and F-11 secuence (included the integrated roll on the M, the half integrated roll on the loop on the P-11, the rolling circle, etc). I only go to high rate rudder on the stall turns since the deflection is so small, you almost can not see rudder corrections. this is good because you almost can not see the tail moving on corrections performance on integrated rolls is awesome but on its downsides:another surface to trim: incidence, position, height. Tcan increased in my case the required mixing if your plane has rudd to ail and/or rudd to elev. I fly a Xigris C1 and it's former owner tried several sizes, geometries and positions, and he ended up reducing the size of the original ZN line tcan to around 60% span, and left it tied to the cockpit where the original one was installed. guess who was the owner!!! this Xigris C1 with Tcan is trimmed using triangulation method and is free of mixing without the Tcan and once you install it, it starts to tuck to the canopy and to roll on knife edge flight. after all and all, i use it and will keep using it so far hope this helps Marcelo Velez
