RE: Getting gears to mesh straight
ORIGINAL: BKoz559 I'm having difficulty understanding the question also.  The way I interpret it is that he's referring to the hex-head screws that hold the motor clamps to the chassis plate.  If you crank them down in the same spot over and over then they can create small indentations in the plate.  So, when you need to shift the motor the screw tend to work their way back into the old position which can make aligning the motor and setting mesh more difficult than it needs to be.
More of less yes... I'm trying to re-tighten the motor in place and the pinion just seems to be at the slightest angle to the other gear it meshes with... can't seem to square it away perfectly...worried it'll wear those 2 gears over time.......don't think anything is bent, both gears are brand new.... just have trouble lining everything square and screwing it down as so

Getting gears to mesh straight
My friends kid ruined the gear on the motor and the one it meshes with on my Savage Flux....I changhed both but I'm having trouble getting the motor lined up straight with the brackets and screwed down... it keeps ending up a tad turned because when I rotate the gears without the set screw tightened it gets pushed down the length of the shaft after some rotations. I don't want to tighten it down crooked cause that'll wear the gearings down. Is there a triclk to getting the motor and brackets square?

Lipo not fitting battery box, bigger box? Wrong battery?
I was looking for 3S batteries, some said buy SKY LIPO 5000mAh 30C 11.1V Hardcase Lipo Battery from hobbypartz.com ... I did, these, being the only ones match that description....... but they don't want to squeeze in... too wide... :( the whole battery flexes in the center and I'm worried to force it and snap it. :( http://www.hobbypartz.com/77p-sl5000-3s1p-30c-3333-hardcase.html Did I buy the wrong batteries? Or was there a bigger battery box I needed to buy too? Or a mod or... ??

Good suggestion... 25C minimum... anything 25C or higher is fine... going under 25C is morebrisk for harm than going higher I was told

Savage Flux continous discharge rate - too high minimum?
I'm looking at some 3S lipos... my 2S lipos have a 25C constant... 30-40C burst... Is there a constant rating that's too high for the electronics? Like is 40C too high for the constant? Is 30C safer? Or a burst rate too high? I've seen some at 60C, some at 80C...
ORIGINAL: SyCo_VeNoM http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=14991 there 30-40C :P ones I use with my savage with a 150A ESC/motor combo, and on my truggy with the CC MM 2200kv combo in it as I put in your other thread your batteries mainly puffed due to storage, and if they were 20C yes you probably taxed them too much specially after they were damaged.
My bad, I reread the rating... it is 30-40C so the amp calculation works ... thanks for correcting me

Flux battery Minimum Amp question
Like everyone after puffing out a battery, learning what actually means what and does what seems so much more important. I read that the minimum amp for Flux's should be 120-125amp. But I see everyone on here including myself using hobbyking Turnigys rated 5200mah 2S 20C.... now the math on that is: 5200 x 20c / 1000 = 104amp So at least 16-21amp below the minimum recommended. So is it unsafe to use these batteries then? Is that "close" enough? Or....? I never see high mAh capacity Turnigys with 25C or greater sold on Hobbyking... 20C seems to be the norm. Explanation?

RE: Savage Flux lipo buldge - help
ORIGINAL: Brainanator leaving at full charge is hard on lipos. Ideally you want them at 70-75% charge for storage, I usually stick them in the fridge if I won't be using them for a month or longer. The lipo with the dead cell is trash. The other lipo might be salvageable, but should probably be run lightly from now on. I'm 98% sure the radio switch did no cause this. The LVC stock is 3.0V/cell I believe, I run mine at 3.2V/cell, anything above 3.4V/cell is usually overkill. Never go below 3.0V/cell. If you want to run 6S instead of 4S that will be no problem. The auto lipo LVC on the MMM will know you have a 6S in there and adjust the cutoff accordingly (based on how many cells you have).
so I should use castlelink to adjust LVC to 3.2v yes? cool re: 6s, maybe i'll buy a pair to try out the extra power

Savage Flux lipo buldge - help
Hi, I just took my Savage Flux out for a run til the batteries pooped out about 30 min and when I came back inside and took the batteries out of their trays both were buldging noticably. I have never had that occur before. I bought these batteries last winter and used them last summer. This was the first run I used them on in say 6 months. The were fully balance charged and absolutely no buldging when I put them in. The most the batteries have ever gotten was a tad bit warm to touch after a long hard running session... but never any buldge. One lipo buldged a little and one buldged a lot... the pics are of the one that buldged a lot. They are Turnigy 5200 mAh 2s lipos from Hobbyking See these pics: http://my.tbaytel.net/rjcella/sw1.jpg http://my.tbaytel.net/rjcella/sw2.jpg http://my.tbaytel.net/rjcella/sw3.jpg The only thing I changed this year was I took out the stock radio & receiver and put in a Spektrum sr300 receiver and bound it to my DX3S. All the setting are standard on my radio. So I have a couple questions: 1)Did the lipos buldge because of the switch to my Spektrum? Is that possible? 2)Are there any radio settings, like a cutoff, I should check? Under what menu would that be and what should it be set to? 3)Are these batteries now unsafe to use or re-charge? When I run a cell checker against them the read-outs are as follows: Slightly buldged lipo All 6.90 s1 - 3.45 s2 - 3.44 Big buldged lipo All 3.85 s1 - 0.04 s2 - 3.81 I'm guessing te one with a cell at 0.04 should never have gone that low. Are either keepable & still useable? If one or both are toast how would I dispose of them?

RE: What is the best rc monster truck for me?
ORIGINAL: LaTuFu Very debatable whether the XS is a better buy, especially for $100 extra on a first timer's truck.  It breaks like any other smaller scale truck.  Plus the OP disappeared a long time ago from this thread.
I disagree, just a visual eyeballing of the 2 compared to each other imho the XS looks a lot less dinky cheap plastic like the Traxxas stuff... Traxxas has nice vehicles and nice options but their stuff is built to break imho, too much cheap plastic at too many spots.... its all opinion, but for an extra $100 I'd buy the XS without pause

durable is a relevant term....you'd be wise to spend a bit more to buy a slightly better truck imho .... for an extra $100 you could get a Savage XS... a way better buy http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_info.php/cPath/1_44_109/products_id/209994/n/HPI-Savage-XS-Flux-RTR-Micro-Monster-Truck-w-24GHz-Radio

RE: NEW!!! Official Traxxas XO-1 1/7 onroad....
ORIGINAL: ElectricGuy007 Id rather spend $1000 on something else. For that price you can buy 2 Tamiya TRF kits that are actually superior in every aspect at half the price. Where would you run a 100 MPH car anyways, a drag strip maybe? Or maybe a real nascar track. It will be a challenge to find somewhere to run a big car like that.[:o]
Agreed.... is it cool its that fast? Sure... but how often are you gonna use it? I'd rather drop that $1000 of a new Savage or Losi 8ight-T truggy and a quality balsa airplane like a Slick or GP Yak or Edge... or even a high end crawler.... you'd get more use outta those for what they're built for

Neither LHS here stocks HPI but I told the one that gave me the best price to order in a Savage Flux as my 1st vehicle.. parts I just buy off ebay... but whatever vehicle floats your boat... no sense buying something you like less just cause its available locally

RE: Should I Quit
ORIGINAL: luker737 I'm 68 years old and I been trying to learn to fly RC air plane. I have crashed about 14 or 15 planes. I do fly without a buddy cord and do pretty good the biggest problem is landing.I seem to try to land to fast and i also have had other problems like putting my planes in tree and losing the wing in the air.I should say that i do fly glow and like it better then electric. what do you think give up the hobby or not?
Have you considered buying Realflight to practice? It really helps with reaction to varying orientations.... and take-offs & landings. I've flown many a flight beautifully only to ruin my plane on a bad landing and I've destroyed my planes several times on take-off with seconds due to errors on my part. Flying is an exercise in patience.... mistakes and crashes can be frustrating & costly time & dollar wise ... but if you enjoy the flying and you will get better as you go its worth it imho. Going to a local club to get buddy boxed and some help to build your confidence is a good idea...most guys at most clubs love to help others Are you flying in calm or windy conditions? What plane or planes have you been trying to fly? Maybe your choice isn't suited to your experience level. I started on 3D foamies and ruined many ... obviously a tame Super Cub would have been easier/smarter... but whatever gives u enjoyment go with... but maybe a tame slow flyer as a practice plane is what you need. Or buy/build a cheap easy to repair foamy like a 40 inch profile you can really slow fly. The bottom line is everyone crashes... and you crash a lot more as a newbie and when learning.... especially if you only fly occasionally....... its just part of the hobby......... but if it interests you & you enjoy it then stick with it.
