RE: US Scale Masters Results 2012
Been to several qualifiers in the years and at least in Static this normalized scoring is not taken in at this end to well when the amount time spent correcting your plane to the documentation to prove Outline, plus amount of time spent to get the correct color match with the chips or photos of the aircraft your replicating and then redoing parts of your model to improve points by the input taken/given by Static Judges only to have your worked evened out - guess this kinda takes the Fun away[X(] of what seems endless hours spent on your aircraft. Also agree 100% with Art on why would this get sprung on you at the Master`s final without first announcing prior on the USSMA web site? Jim

I`m about 2 hours from Rhinebeck It is worth the trip! The weather has in the past effected flying at times but like Whit stated the Mid Hudson Rc guys do a good job to get things going as quick as possible after any downtime to make the event enjoyable. I have been going to their event for over 14 years as a flyer and spectator[;)] Jim

RE: Proctor Neuport
Think it might be the 11 on the 1/5 scale [;)] This one does fly great with a 70 4 stroke as the weight comes out to @ 10lbs (not sure how the smaller gas DA`s might work?) it flies very friendly but as all short nose WW1 craft takeoffs are a thing to get familiar with as throttle-rudder control has to be used to get the tail up for a straight run and the landings should be flown in (bit of power) to main wheels touch down first then the power cut and to stay away from the 3 points to prevent the ground loop syndrome. But all in all the 11 is really a nice scale flying airplane. Jim

RE: Top Gun 2012
smithcreek I think even tho it is a BUSA kit you do have the basics - the builder then corrects the outline with a 3-5 views issues (the published one he uses to be judged) and makes paint match his Documentation being photos/chips or such all the rest is how he puts detail on the plane the Balsa kits due pretty Good in Competition. RE: Albatros D.III Build along
ORIGINAL: thebluemax I am sure the guys who have finished theirs will chime in. I had chose to glue both halves together and directly to the fuse and sheathed it as one piece to keep it a clean appearance. In relation to that I made the cutout on top for the saito to remove and install pretty easy with a certain slight twist pattern as the process - just the fuel lines are a bit tight to hook up. I`m running a glow driver to start (the FA 100 seems to run the flight OK without the driver on). Had to chopped some of the front cylinder off on the dummy engine to clear the 100`s head & plug and that is held in by 4 screws and it does remove with just enough to clear the guns and such. The bottom of the front cowl section was opened up in front of the LG compartment for ventilation of heat. On the wing strut mounting - spruce blocks were glued under the ply mount by the rib and used Dubro`s metal gear straps for the attachment point, nice and strong as the ply ones in the kit just are too weak. There are most definitely problems left to the builder to figure out with the supplied plans and instruction manual and for sure not a quick breeze through project. Jim

RE: Albatros D.III Build along
Built Funaero`s D3 last season and if adding scale details like I did the plane will come to the 12+lb. range. Lighting the horiz stab sure does not hurt - when balancing you will be adding close to 20 + oz of weight. I moved as much forward as feasible, mine hit 23oz. (I did lighting up the stab) As the building instructions go it does leave alot up in the air on certain areas. The plane does fly on the fast side and if you try to calm it down to a much more desirable scale speed it does want to sink. Builders who came close to the recommended weight @10lbs I found out still have similar flying characteristics. I`m using the saito FA 100 & after jumping around with sizes & pitch a 14-8 wood prop seems to work best for my setup. I did build in some right/down thrust (standard 2 degrees) it seems past experience with this type of similar airfoil works best for me also. Regardless the plane handles reasonably well as WW1 taildraggers do but the plan & instruction manual is geared more for builders who had a few builds under their belt. Will post a few pics but the rcu server is giving me the 505 error now I`ll try again later Jim

RE: looking for a scale prop.
Yup understandable Don but if like armyguy466 mentioned has the look and one can trim(shape)/balance to a Allies profile [;)] but have to go larger. Doc mentioned the G26/23 can spin a 18/6 for scale but the Vogel might be a bit too heavy. Jim

RE: Rhinebeck Jamboree 2011
Just went on saturday Beautiful day but a bit of a crosswinds. Here`s a few pics there was a awsome 27% SE5 gent was from Canada did not fly it because of engine issues (won at Toledo I think a year ago) was a sight to behold plus the 1/2 scale Nieuport 11 he did not fly it that day but found out he did on sunday would of loved to see it airborne. Well a big bonus at my end saved a bit up for the ride in the 1929 New Standard [:)]
