Does anyone need an old style RF Transmitter?
Hi everyone, I have an old RealFlight controller that is just gathering dust. It's one of the original ones that plugs into a Game Port (this is NOT a USB controller). I even have a sound card with game port of questionable vintage to go along with it. No promises on the sound card. I only bring this up in case some Club somewhere might have (or are setting up) an old antique PC with gameport that they're using for demo purposes. The controller is free - I'm asking only for enough $$ for postage. And, in case you're asking, it worked the last time that I used it about a year or two ago. I will warn you, it is a tad dusty. Bob

RE: Moongoose II article - looking for a copy
Ijust tried again with the Mongoose II 40 file, to see if it will upload... but it still says that the file is too large. If you like, you can PM me and see if I can send the file via direct email. Bob

I tried to upload the Mongoose II 40 sized file but it was too large. I will try something else and try to upload it in a few days. Bob

RE: Moongoose II article - looking for a copy
I made up a pdf of the Mongoose file from March 1983. But, it is very large and may be hard or impossible to open. If this does not open, I can mail them to you if you want to provide postage... Here is the original Mongoose II article.

RE: Has RCM folded?
Yup, that's just the idea.... re-publish the content that is relavant to today and perhaps a few 'history lessons' such as the article where they crossed the USA by RC Airplane in 1976 for the Bicentennial or when 0an RC airplane flew the Atlantic unassisted. That's the idea... Bob

RE: Has RCM folded?
Thanks,.. but I also miss the good discussions that we used to have on here... I wonder if there would be any value to purchasing the assets of the magazine (articles, columns, artwork, etc.,) and re-start the magazine using the more timely articles for print - by that I mean to reprint the articles that would still be relavant today such as teaching aerodynamics and aerobatics, teaching how to design, etc. Then maybe that would attract current day info as well. And of course, the covers!! [;)] Bob

RE: Moongoose II article - looking for a copy
There were two Mongoose II's published, the original was for a .61 engine (March 1983), and the 2nd was for a 40-sized plan (January 1985). Head to www.rcmplans.com and do a search for Mongoose and you will see both... Which one were you interested in? Bob

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
I am also still having the same issue as Flying Again... but I have a theory. I've been on this thread since almost its begining - it's the longest living thread that I subscribe to, by far. I am wondering if, after all these years, there might be some type of counter connected to the amount of times that I have come up to this thread and that this might be the reason for my not being able to get in directly. Of all the threads that I subscribe to on RCU (and there are a lot of them!!) this is the only one that I am having a problem with. I love the thread, and learn a lot of useful info here. I get in to all the others very easily. I'm just tossing this out in case there might be some symptom here that could help the programmers diagnose what is happening to some of us. Thanks, Bob

Yes, please give me that link when you have the chance. I thought that, where SRCM has been gond for so long that the plans would be impossible to get (defunct address) or that someone else had bought them out. I see that you are starting a link on the build. I've already subscribed to it so that I can lurk. And, I say that you should go for the built-up wing!! [:D] Bob

Where did you get the plans??? DId you buy them from SRCM when they were publishing or is someone else handling them now? I might look into getting a set once I read this article. Thanks, Bob

RE: aileron horn placement
I have to respectfully disagree with that. If your servo mounting is the same as what SeamusG shows in Post 7, then everything (all linkages, servo, etc.,) should be perpendicular to the hinge line. That was why I had to make new ones up as described in Post #3. The setup in Post 7 will work but will cause the servo to work harder and put a lot of stress on the control horn. Just my $.02

RE: Jack Capen PA-18 build article
Well, let me see if I have something like that hanging around on my desk.... Oh yeah, here it is... It's a 5-page article with no plans. It does show how to get them, though. Which version are you thinking about building and, if you have the plans, where did you get them from? I might pop for a set myself. Oh yeah, there's a 6th page to this 5-page article... the cover. It was pretty good!!! She sure does look cute holding that Zlin, Bob

RE: Who else has failed on their first build?
Other things to consider are (1) whether you might have added additional weight while building, perhaps beefing it up here and there, etc.; (2) is the CG correct, or (3) is the engine above or below the recommended size?? Just my $.02 What Chuck says is also true... get someone else to fly it and see what their opinion is. But, whatever you do, don't give up and don't stop building. We've all been there. Bob

RE: aileron horn placement
I'm in agreement about the linkages being perpendicular to the hinge line. As an example, I have a very nice Sig Rascal 40 ARF that had the aileron linkages perpendicular with the straight leading edge instead of the tapered trailing edge. These servos were hidden inside the wing, mounted to some hatch covers, by the way. Only the servo arm was projecting below the wing. I took some scrap plywood wood and made some new hatch covers with the servos mounted perpendicular to the hinge line. I only had to angle it a few degrees but it made a big difference. It took a little bit of finageling, but it was a quick job and I enjoyed doing it. If you decide to go this way, you'll be glad that you did. I hope that I described it clearly enough. Bob

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
When you put in the new Crankshaft, did you disassemble the engine completely or just disassemble what was needed? My reason for asking is that I'm wondering if you happened to take off the rocker arm covers? If so, did you notice if the pushrods were nested in the rocker arm properly? Did you re-adjust the valves? You should barely feel any play at TDC, but you should definitely feel them rock a little bit. Just my $.02 Bob

Hi Hobbsy, Just an update on my login issue (and others who have the same problem, I think). I still cannot log in from the email link. I have to come in from the Forums front page and it dumps me into the first post. Has anyone been able to figure anything out about this? I've unsubscribed and resubscribed several times to no avail. RE: Sig Koverall Application Process
There is a lot of good info here but aI'm confused on one step - shrinking. Is the shrinking done as a separate, independant step (say, by using water, like we used to do with silkspan) or is it the application of the thinned dope that does the shrinking and filling together. Sorry to ask an anal question, Bob

RE: Ivory Gull aerotow
Thanks for those pictures... That's an idea about towing with a release pin inside the fuse. I like that idea. But it seems like you would have to take the wing off each time that you want to tow in order to rig up the towline again. This is very interesting. Learning a few new angles here. Bob

RE: Ivory Gull aerotow
Thanks for the video. Could you fill in more of the blanks for us - this will probably get a lot of interest with people wanting details. Here are a few questions that I had: I'm curious about the two mechanism on the tow plane. Most RC models that I've read about have you put the tow point at the TE of the wing. What was it like to tow a plane with the tow point under the fin? What was the tow mechanism like on the tug? Did you release the towline over the field before you landed (so that it wouldn't snag on something when you came in, resulting in a 'sudden stop'? How did you release the glider? I am presuming that you brought the tow plane throttle down to idle and let the glider zoom on ahead, dropping the tow off the gliders tow hook. I have a J-3 Cub rigged for two but have not done that yet. So, you can see my interest. Thanks a lot, Bob

RE: super cub 1/4 scale plans
While we're talking Cubs here, can you educate some of us on the differences/chronology of the regular Cub, the Super Cub and the PA-11. Were there other variants as well?? A Cub with flaps sounds interesting. Which kits lend themselves to conversion to flaps?? Thanks, Bob

RE: GP Electricub II build
From my point of view, I would use the notches in the TE as a guide and ensure that the ribs are all put in square to the TE and perpendicular to the building board. No one is going to notice and the plane will fly just as well, IMHO. Bob

RE: Thinking about a Ziroli Ercoupe, need input.
On second thought, it might have been a Balsa USA Ercoupe... I found a thread on RC Groups http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=321350 and it's unclear what he was building. The RCR reviews appear to have been around early to mid 2005. I'm not sure if this was any help to you or not. Bob

RE: Thinking about a Ziroli Ercoupe, need input.
I remember that Dick Pettit reviewed an Ercoupe in an old issue of RC Report. I don't remember the manufacturer, but it could have been a Ziroli. He did the review over 2-3 issues because he was getting the plane ready for Top Gun or Joe Nall. Perhaps someone here has more info on that? Bob
