RE: HPI Mini Recon
ORIGINAL: TripShot So far my Mini Recon has been nothing but trouble. My motor has given out and I have striped a few gears ( all stock). HPI was nice enough to replace the parts but as soon as I get one thing fixed another thing breaks. The wheels are absolutely horrendous, and I have discovered a new problem. When I apply full throttle from a stand still I hear a loud clicking noise. I firstly suspected that it was the front diff, but after inspection, it turned out to be coming from the back of vehicle. (My front diff is now locked). The back diff seems to be in good working condition, the mesh is perfect and the everything else seems fine, this clicking is rather annoying. Has anyone else had problems similar to mine?
Thatll be the rear pinion skipping.... Iv had exactly the same problem! Iv now got a pinion with a issing tooth and is cracked all the way through. Iv also noticed iv got quite a bit of play with the whole diff in the housing, the front diff is perfect.
ORIGINAL: Foxy Here's a pic of the MB chassis. It's a Marder with different tires and gearing and very different to my MB Pro in many ways, although the same basic chassis is used underneath.
I want to convert my FG Baja to a beetle but I cant work out how the front body mounts attach to the front bulkhead! from a very poor picture iv seen it mounts to the cable brake thingy? is that correct?

well in the UK you just buy a little resistor and cut the positive out lead on the battery and solder the resistor in place 7.2v> resistor 6v> ------/////////-------------- power lead lol if that diagram makes sense

On the subject of regulators...I was considering buying a 7.2v nimah pack for my baja buggy and putting a resistor on it do bring it down to 6v. So would a 7.2v 4100mah with resistor last longer than a normal 6v 4100mah pack?

RE: can't get any traction
How would the average joe measure 4degrees? is there a way to measure it in mm? say like set the front 4/5mm in from the rear of the tyre! cos then you could just push it up against something straight (wall, timber) and just measure it with a ruler.

Had mine out today out on dartmoor....just lots of muddy water all over it with grass. I just stuck it in the shed on me table with a heater pointed at it for a couple of hours! Job Done[:D] when I do wash it I just hose it down and chuck back in front of the heater. I havent touched my bearings for 2 months and there fine[8D] id rather just buy a cheap set when they have had it, then sitting there taking them all apart and oiling them forever....each to there own I suppose[sm=thumbup.gif]

RE: tuning
If it was massivly lean it would.....but it would more than likely just run hot! and possible cause damage or kill the plug, I found on mine that a slightly lean top end can also cause slight hesitation on take off but that was before I slowed my idle down so I quess it was teetering on the HSN on take off. I suppose if you live somewhere where the weather is pretty constant you wouldnt need to check it that often but in the UK weather is all over the place....one day its cold the next its mild

RE: tuning
I was trying to tune mine by listening to it and watching it go...as far as i was concerned it drove great, which it did! but I was killing plugs as it was way to rich! but since i starting checking via plug colour its been fine dont really need to touch it now.
yeah man, i really love the idea of gear covers. too bad 2 speed gear cover is very hard to come by. Great pics by the way, and if the rain keeps up until this weekend, I shall compete for the dirtiest FG and Baja SS :) Sid
If your really after a set for a 2 speed why not make your own? just buy 2 single covers cut off the access on one and join them together :) been done before I think

Id have to agree with largescale not for jumpers...im not saying it will fall apart but there isnt any real kind of control once in the air! maybe better if it was 4wd like most nitros, that may help it

RE: Spark Plug Life and Tuning
Guys im beginning to think it was just my tuning. See iv been tuning it by just looking and listening to it to which it was fine! but today I took it out with a fresh plug and a wrench and tuned it by looking at the plug each time. Factory settings was lean on the HSN and rich on the LSN and now I think im almost there maybe a tad to rich but need to run it more first to see. Will also see tomorrow once it is properly cold if it still bogs 3/4+ throttle when cold or if its better! as to the higher rpm on a cold start I havent looked into that yet but it is only for 10 seconds or so on that fist start of the day. Guess I will go eat some Humble Pie[8|] edit Just thought I ended up richening the LSN slightly at the end of the run as when I cam to a stand still from a high speed run it sounded like it was idling leaner for a few second and then would settle....once I richened it slightly it was ok! was that a sign of a lean bottom end?

RE: Spark Plug Life and Tuning
The air filter is defiantly not over oiled which is why i was asking if a under oiled filter would cause it to have to run richer (more air more fuel needed) and the plugs are the ngk cmr7h ones. To run it is is fine to my eye/ears...good take off and the top end on it is good. When I start it from cold the idle is quite high! not enough to get it moving but then after about 10sec it settles down, is this normal? also when cold it bogs from about 3/4 of the throttle upwards but I take it thats normal.

Spark Plug Life and Tuning
HI Guys Having some issues with my stock FG Baja! My spark plugs are only lasting about an hour to a hour n half and then they die! I know its my tuning as they are black and wet when taking them out My settings are:-32/1 Venom Gold 1.6HSN 1.4LSN Now I know your gonna say I need to lean it out....but If I try that it runs to lean. Iv been told that I should be running at 25/1 and that it will run leaner on the carb settings! is that correct? Also would running the airfilter with to a less oil in be causing it to have to run richer on the carb settings? Lets say If your engine was tuned fine! how much adjustment would it take for it to kill plugs in such a short time?

RE: FG MT front disc brakes (cable)...
there is a guy on here that had the same problem with stripping gears due to flexing. I think alloy engine mounts will help somewhat, but his modification was to add 2 metal strips beneath the engine....one on the underside of the car and one between the chasis and engine itself. Since then I think its been perfect...
