Conley 1.20 Looking for a belt
I recently aquired a Conley 1.20. The belt has complete dry rotted. I emailed Gary Conley and he doesn't have any parts. He seems to remember the pitch on the belt was .081 or .0812. If anyone has any information or even better, belts for this engine, please let me know.

Hitec service issues for Mike
Mike, I have nothing but great things to say about Hitec's service. Sent in an Evo 12 and a servo programmer a little of 2 weeks ago and received them today. My complaint is the description of the service performed on the units. For the servo programmer which had a garbled display the note was "software upgrade". Possible if the software had been corrupted, but how it got corrupted sort of distrubes me. The Evo I sent in would not take a charge. I was fairly sure I had plugged the charger in wrong and fully expected a bill for the damage although Hitec didn't send one. The description of the repair was "main board". What I found strange was that if the techs replaced the main board, why were all my models I had saved still in memory. Do your techs take the time to download a radio and reload it? If so, I have to give your service department 2 thumbs up. Loading the latest software on the radio was also a nice touch. Anyway, my point is that a better description of the service performed and what may have caused it would be helpful. Instead of just getting a "main board" for my Evo repair, if I got something like "some dumbass plugged the charger in wrong and broke the socket" would be much better, or even "the charging circuit failed in the main board, we backed up the models, replaced the board and restored the models". I think folks would like to know what happened and why if possible to insure it doesn't happen again. Just my thoughts. Thanks again for the great service. Barry

RE: Does the Futaba 8uafs support both shift types?
No. It does negative shift only. The Hitec Eclispe 7, Multiplex Evos, Polk Trakker II and some of the Airtronic radios can go both ways. Not sure about JR.

RE: How many RC airplanes do you own/fly?
Needless to say, I've got a horrible addiction to this hobby. Currently have 45 ready to fly at a moments notice. Another 6 or 7 needing receivers. 4 down for repairs, about another 30 kits and arfs waiting in boxes and 71 engines in boxes waiting on future planes. Fortunately, I've got a very tolerant wife, but is getting a little tired of planes in every room of the house.

RE: GOLDBERG 540 EXTREME
Hope your test flight goes better than my experieces. I had 4 wild, nearly uncontrollable flights followed by a bad crash. On the 5th flight we decided there was too much elevator throw. Toned them down and the best pilot at our field took it up and then down. We then decided that it had to be way nose heavy even though it was balanced at the aft CG of 5 1/4". Called Goldberg who weren't a lot of help. The guy there said I hadn't read the manual on the proper CG. He claimed that it should be 5 1/4 to 6 1/2". The manual clearly states 4 3/4 to 5 1/4" for a starting point. He did say he was flying his with the CG at 6". After rebuilding and taking some measurements, 6" seems to be a better number. Hope to try it again this weekend with the CG at 5 1/2" and see what happens. Good Luck

RE: Futaba 9C Gimbals
There is a difference in feel between the 9Z and 9C. Is that difference worth the extra $1000 or so? Not for me. I love my 9Z, but I also own four 9Cs and I'm very happy with them. Guess it really depends on how much the feel really means to you and what type of flying you do.

RE: Saito 150 Problems
Four strokes backfire when they are too lean. Run them a little rich and there is no problems with a Saito 150. Saito had a run of new engines where they left the shields on the rear bearing causing poor lubrication to the cam gear and front bearings. The 150 I picked up last week had the shields removed from the bearing so I guess they have corrected the problem.

Several Tracker II Issues
I've run into a few issues with my new Tracker II system that I want to make you aware of. First, I installed the receiver switch that came with the flight pak in a new plane. I've been working on it for a couple of days and last night I turned it on and nothing. Toggled the switch a couple of time and the back fell off. It was a first for me. Don't really care that the switch failed since it was the bench, but you might want to double check your quality control on your switches. Second, I was having problems getting the elevators to center correctly. I could get good UP elevator and almost no elevator. Spoke with John Gill (I believe) and he advised me to send the unit in. Being curious in nature, I found my way into the service menu and discovered the elevator pot was no where near center. The more I worked the stick, the worse it got. It occured to me the pot was slipping where it connects to the gimble. I was able to loosen the screws on the gimble and adjust the center. All is well. Third, I realized that the trims were not being saved correctly when using an Elevon wing mix. This seems to have been addressed in another post, so I'll be sending the unit back in for an update. Fourth, I received a new flying wing from Combat Wings today at the office. I had chosen a frequency of one of my Futaba 9Cs. The 9C was at home, but the Tracker was in the car, I found an excuse to get out of the office and go fly. Setup Elevons and the control surfaces were reversed. I could reverse the servos and get left and right correctly, but up and down were reversed. Reversed the servos and vice versa. Thinking Wes at Combat Wings had screwed up, I went ahead and flew it inverted. When I got home I got out the 9C, setup a new model, activated Elevons and it responded correctly. Still perplexed on this one. Lastly, it appears that you cannot setup Flaperons using channels 1 and 5 instead of the standard 1 and 6. Maybe I just haven't figured this one out. This is an important feature since many of the receivers used in small electric are only 5 channel receivers. The Tracker II is great radio for the price and with some software changes, it could be and excellant radio. I would also like to suggest offering the Tracker II for sale in a transmitter only configuration. For people like myself, I don't need another wall wort charger, 1 GWS servo, receiver battery or switch. Just a thought.

RE: Tracker II Elevator Problems
Problem solved. As it turned out, the pot was slipping on the gimble. Figured out how to get to the service menu and read the value of the pot. Loosened the screws and made manual adjustments until I got the valve set to what the center point was supposed to be on another screen. Tighten everything up and it works perfectly. Kind of makes sense now. The other plane I had been flying on the Tracker was constantly needing elevator trim every flight. I dismissed this as a problem since it was a Zagi Fixx. The foam warps, etc. on this plane if you can actually call it a plane. More like at $150 waste of money, but that is another story. I'll call Polk tomorrow and let them know of a potential problem. I have the worst luck, so I'm sure I got the only one in the production run with this problem.

RE: Tracker II Elevator Problems
The problem is in TX. I've tried a Futaba 9Z, 9C, 8U and old Skysport, as well as an Airtronic RD6000 and I Hitec Eclipse. All of them work with the Seeker flawlessly. Called Polk today and they told me to send it in. Kind of sucks because I'll bet there is a maintence mode in this radio that things like center point can be adjusted.

RE: GP Lancair stall/spin characteristics
I wouldn't call it a bad trait, it is just the simple truth about most general aviation aircraft. There is simply not enough rudder to get out of trouble. I fly full scale as well as R/C and the last thing I would ever want to try is spinning my full scale Cherokee 180. Kind of like waking up in the mornings. Just my thoughts.

Tracker II Elevator Problems
I have a new Tracker II I'm attempting to setup in an old 4* 120. My issue revolves around the elevator. The plane is setup with 2 elevator servos using a Y-harness. I read some of the issues with elevtor trims of dual elevator setups so decided to use a Y. I'm using a Seeker II receiver with this setup. After setting up the radio I flipped on the plane. First thing I noted was that the elevator center point was way off. Had all kinds of up elevator, but full down elevator produced little movement. Manually re-centered the servo horns and problem still exists. Pulled out a Futaba radio and now the servos responded correctly although I had to adjust the horns back to where they were originally. Thinking there was some strange programming in the Tracker, I cleared the model memory and the problems remains. Software version in the radio is 1.31. I've looked through the manual and I stumped. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Source for Model Scan Sl-72
Had the RC Scan at the field yesterday. Works great. I really like the auto scan mode. It is great to know that a certain frequency has been on in the previous 10 minutes by a flashing number. At least you know another transmitter with the same frequency is in the area or some other interference. While prepping my plane I had it auto mode. We have train tracks very close by and have always been suspicious that their equipment interferes with certain frequencies. As a train went by, several frequencies lit up. I flew on a frequency I know gets hit at our field and had the unit in detail mode. When I got back down, the unit showed that there had been 5 interruptions while I was flying. I only noticed one of them while in the air. As I said before, the unit is a little large. It is about 7" long, 3.5" wide and about an 1" tall. Guess the good thing about its size is that the display is large and I can read it from a few feet away without getting out my glasses. The RC Scan is definitely worth the investment. Very simple to use, no setup other than installing a 9v battery. Pretty sure I have more than the $250 asking price invested in my Icom R2 unit, by the time I bought the PC software/cable, short base loaded antenna, case, etc.

Source for Model Scan Sl-72
After reading this thread a few days ago, I ordered the RC Scan 7200. Must say, prompt shipping. Ordered on Fri. they said it shipped on Sat. and got it today. I've been using an Icom R2 for the last year, works great, but lacks a lot. Just playing with the 7200 here in the house has proved interesting. Hope to get to the field on Wed. for a true test. My only complaint is that it is a little large, but it does show a lot of information. In testing this evening, I've got a 8U I've been concerned about. Turning on 3 8Us and scanning the signal strenght, my suspect 8U has clearly shown a weakness in signal. It gets sent to the shop tomorrow. If you have a spare $257 it is worth the investment.

I run a 16X8 MA on a Saito 1.20 in my Goldberg Ultimate Bipe. Great combo. I fly about 800 feet above sea level. Density altitude at the field today was around 3000ft. Did really notice any major changes in performance.

Old ST200 Parts
Are parts still available for an old ST2000? Looked on the website and it looks like all the 2000 series engines have the same part number for all the parts which is a bit strange. This engine is probably 10+ years old. The front of crankcase separates on this engine and the head and crankshaft diameter is much larger than the current ST2300. Thanks, Barry

Club Roster Database or Spreadsheet?
I use Filemaker Pro. I know all the database gurus probably would turn there noses at this one. But I like things simple and it is about as simple as it gets as well as being very powerful. I need to get the data exported for various things and into a number of applications. I do the club's newsletter, so I have to have the names and addresses flow into the stamps.com program to print the postage. I send out a club phone book so I need all the info to export into Pagemaker and I maintain a frequency saturation chart in Excel that I keep posted in our pin box. The big plus with Filemaker is the very simple searching capabilities. If I need to email the club members and simply ask it for all members with an email address, click one button, it opens up a new message to be sent. I originally tried with access, but it was just too cumbersome.
