RE: 3 peice Corsair wing
I don't do anything complex except build from scratch and make up my own three piece wing with spades and box channels made on a CNC machine for a 125" Corsair. I guess thats not as complex as building a foam wing.

RE: Ziroli 124
I cut the front of the cowl out and cut about .75 lbs. It turned out that it was 1/4" thick in spots. With a little more sanding it should look pretty good for my first try at it. The second picture is how it will be stored and transported.

RE: 3 peice Corsair wing
ORIGINAL: 91zulu Just what wing span are we talking about here? Barry Joiners does work on foam gull wings, very well, any size. You just have to build to what size your wing is. The pockets are glued into the outer panels to what ever length that makes you happy. The blades are glued into the gull center section to what ever thickness that makes you happy.
Did you read my post? It doesn't sound like you understood what I said. I said they wouldn't work!!! The wing will have to be composite and hoolow like the Byron Corsairs and then the joiners will have to be bolted to the solid fiberglas inbetwwen the top and bootm skins. Plus why epoxy and bolt the spades to the center section if you want to save space. It is easier to bolt and epoxy them to the outer wing panels and hang them up in your transport vehicle.

RE: 3 peice Corsair wing
I don't see how a foam core wing will hold any type of joiner and be safe. You will need something solid for either the wing tubes or joiner box channel and spade. Check out my thread and see how I did it with a built up wing using joiners. "Blown up Ziroli 124" F4U-5N Build." NCIS

Dave, I am thinking that very thing over now. I have to pay off some other debts first but then the engine will come. I do know it won't be a high maint. radial though. I love them but I like the cowl to stay on more than off.[:)]

Bob sorry but that is the end of the center section. It has to stay put. Thats where the outer panels join the center section. I finally got my baby on her own legs today. Here she is. Just a few more months to go now!

RE: Ziroli 124
My new issue to deal with. Since the wheels are so big there isn't room to put a faux rib in place far enough away from the side of the last rib of the center section so I could use off set hinges. I am experimenting with using my bench sander to sand some large robart hinges down to half thickness and glueing them to balsa gear doors. It looks like it will work but I would rather use metal off set hinges. I really don't dare to cut into the first rib of the outer wing panels for them to work. Any ideas anyone? Any suggestions or help will be appreciated here!!!

RE: Ziroli 124
I installed all the airlines except the gear doors so far. I also installed the sequence valve, servo and #3 air tank in the wing. Here is what it looks like. The air cylinders are the gear doors but I want to test the system with the wing on the fuse before I run those lines and hook them up.

Been right here just lurking in the shadows steadily working on my beast. The retracts are in now and look good. She shits 15 inches from the table to the bottom of the gull portion of the wing.

RE: Ziroli 124
Gary, Yes but then the strut doesn't come all the way down and will bind and cause damage. If I adjust if just a little it will not really do any good. I'm calling Darrell Monday to see if he can change it if I send them back in after I have them installed and can move on to finishing the sheeting.

RE: Ziroli 124
I have been busy working on my retract rails and wheel wells. I have been trying to position the retracts everyway possible to be able to have gear doors. I will have them but the only way is to have two sets of axles. One for flying and one for static. The only way the doors will work is if I leave a large gap between the wheel and the strut. This alows the strut to ly flat on top of the C-Channel wing joiner and let tne wheel sink down into the bottom of the well. It is the way the retracts are made with built in toe in that makes this a problem.

Gary, Your right it is hanging over my head literally![:D] But this Corsair is not going to be interupted until it's finished come He.. or high Water. I can't find the brass "T"s on Century Jets website anywhere so I was wondering if you know how to find them. If so can you post the link to go right to them?

RE: Ziroli 124
Now I have both side finished but not epoxied in yet. I have to find 2 more small clamps so I can operate the gear and see if they are perfeclty alligned. The large clamps get in the struts way. Of course Menards only sell Tool Shop and they were out of the smallest size.[&o] No biggy though. It gives me time to run the air lines and get all of it ready for when I do epoxy the maple rails in.

Gary, Not yet but I did order some regular brass T's from Darrell. I'll order some of the 4 in 1 brass T's from Bruce at CJ on Monday along with regular brass T's so I can have the retracts definitely working by Friday.[:D] You can never have to many of them around for future projects. I do wish Bruce would of had red and black instead of red and yellow. Thanks again for the favor!

RE: Ziroli 124
I tore out the old ribs where the main gear goes so there will be enough room for the large retracts. I am using 1/4" aircraft ply for the new ribs and maple rails. Everything is supported by hardwood 3/4" triangle stock and 3/8" square maple. I am now figuring out where I need to set the rails. I also cut some 1/8" ply to raise the front of the bottom just beyond the wide air intakes and oil coolers. You will see it in the pix. It isn't glued in yet but I will do that last after both retracts are in and working. Gary, Thanx I got the air lines and quick connects today. Now I can run the lines to the gear. Did you get my check yet?

RE: Ziroli F4U Cockpit Help
Joe, The Ziroli Corsair cockpit is not long enough for a scale cockpit. On my 124+" Z Corsair I moved the top section of F-6 above the crutch forward 1.75". On your size it will be less. The Dymaic Balsa cockpit kit I bought was for a 120" Don Smith Corsair and thats how I realized the cockpit was way to short. Move the instrument panel forward or it will look stubby! I layed my 1/8" cockpit floor ontop of the crutch.

RE: Ziroli 124
Gary, Darrell was supposed to ship me air line, brass T's, and quick connects. Is there anyway you can get these from him tomorrow for me and ship them? Just let me know how much they are with shipping and I'll send you a money order. I need about 20 feet of air line, 15 brass T's and 8 quick connects. If I wait for Darrell it could be a long time before I get them because he is so busy. I sure wish he hadn't forgot to ship them. If you tell him they are for me he will probably just give them to you and invoice me! Then all you will have to do is pay the shipping which shouldn't be much. Sorry I couldn't make it but we had a medical emergency in the family. My mother in law was rushed to the hospital to prevent a serious stroke. Only to find out she has a terminal disease.[&o] I cut out my 1/4" aircraft ply for my retract ribs and used my newest addition to my shop. Now I don't know how I got by without it. Now I can cut about 1/16" to 3/32" outside the traced line on the parts and boy does it ever take it away fast and leaves a perfectly square or angled edge everytime. I Love it. Thank You my Friend,

RE: Ziroli 124
My retracts were delivered yesterday but I was to busy to post pictures of them. Here they are setting on the original ribs. I will be removing the original #5 & #6 ribs and replacing them 4 1/4" apart perpindicular to the building surface. I already removed the ribs on the right side and just have the left to go before I use my templates made of balsa to cut the 1/4" aircraft ply ribs that will replace the 1/8" ribs. Then I will use maple or poplar to make the rails for them to be bolted to. They have a 1" diameter strut and 5/16" axle. They measure 11 5/8" from the pivot point to the center of the axle. The wheels will just fit. They are just under 8" in diameter.

RE: Motel/Hotels in Toledo???
Thanks guy's. I booked a room at the Qauality Inn in Perrysburg thats a 12 minute drive from the show center. I only had to pay $59.12 with my senior citizen discount. Their sales taxes in Toledo are out of this world. I checked right at the Park Inn and they had rooms and their price was $120.00 + tax that would equate to around $140.00 with their crazy taxes. Now I know why they still have rooms open.
