RE: Atlanta 60 has new home
ORIGINAL: hrrcflyer Vince, ...Not to mention if it's set up properly, I've heard it flies AWESOME.
Yes, it does. The only reason it isn't still competitive is size and speed. You really have to make your approach with a high angle of attack like a jet or she'll never come down.
ORIGINAL: jrpav1 Concentrate on the fundamentals now grasshopper. Don't be in a big rush to get into Masters. As a reality check, try flying the Masters or Advanced sequence right now. Let me know how that goes... LOL John Pavlick Team Black Magic, Tech-Aero Designs
I agree. I can fly the Advanced sequence, but am I flying Advanced? No, I'm flying Intermediate. Enjoy the ride and don't be in too much of a hurry to move up. A guy in our club moved up a little soon and got his buttocks handed to him on a platter. Be excited about eventually getting to your destination, but drive the road ahead - enjoying each crack and pot hole along the way. [;)] Slow rolls are a matter of timing more than anything. Once you can do three or four on the same line you're getting good. Advance the timing of the next input slightly and you'll do smooth and slow rolling circles. Until you can do it, don't think about moving up - because the guys you'll be flying against can without batting an eye.

RE: Replacing a 46 ax with 4 stroke
ORIGINAL: ChuckW If you can still find one, a YS-63 will fly that plane as well or better than the .46 2-stroke and still be lightweight. It is being replaced by the YS-70 however which of course would be even better. Beyond that, any good .70-.82 4-stroke will be excellent. If you can find a discontinued OS .70 Surpass-2 it would be a great choice. There new ones would be too.
That's a heck of a lot of power for a 40 sized airframe. May I suggest model rocketry? [:)] I'd personally go with a Saito 56 and be done with it.

RE: Whats the rudder for!!! ?
ORIGINAL: jetmech05 Not all full scale aircraft use rudder in turns....the 727 doesn't and when I was in the 777 sim I was told to leave rudder alone and was able to turn using just ailerons..... You control an aircraft in 3 axis....pitch (elevators), Roll (ailerons), and Yaw (rudder)...yaw is the side to side movement of the nose......
Those aircraft have something called a yaw damper.

RE: Are we blogging?
ORIGINAL: Tango Juliet Well, I don't consider myself an Old Fart, yet (my oldest is a senior in H.S), but I'm not as young as I look either [:D]. I'm probably in the minority in my generation, but I think the whole Twittering thing is ridiculous. People spend more time typing words onto tiny screens than it would actually take to call someone and talk to them personally. Blogging, on the otherhand, isn't so irrelevant. I've blogged a few times here on my Profile page. They're pretty boring. Just little glimpses into my thoughts about what I'm doing, or want to be doing. To me, it's just another way to get to know some of the people we interact with here on the forums, but never get the chance to meet face to face.
I think a lot of it boils down to how self centered people seem to have become. There's nothing wrong with a blog used to share a hobby or passion, but you shouldn't feel the need to notify everybody of what you're doing every waking moment of the day as if it's somehow relevant to the world. I'm a young guy (twenty-something) and really don't understand the extreme use of it either.

RE: ESC choice???
Well, yes. You can't overdrive your engine and expect everything to be fine. To me, that's not really ESC related. You should of course make sure that the higher rated speed controller is indeed enough. That goes without being said.
ORIGINAL: ChuckW Yep something is shorted. First indication is the blown fuse. Now it stays powered up even thought the switch is off. It needs repair or replacement. I wouldn't chance it. RE: Saito .82 Quits when idle
ORIGINAL: FILE IFR
ORIGINAL: obriendigital I have set the low end needle back to factory settings, nearly flush with the throttle arm, then moved out a quarter turn at a time.
A 1/4 turn in or out is way too much! You'll almost never get it adjusting that much each time. 1/8 turn is a bit much, I'd go less.. like the screwdriver's slot blade width. Some people do not realize just how sensitive these adjustments are, so adjust in much smaller increments.
I agree. Turning it that much at one time will have you chasing the correct setting forever.
ORIGINAL: Edwin I wouldnt want to be that one time in a month. There have actually been several incedents in our club with lipo's. I could recite them but what would be the point. Its NOT nonsense. Edwin
I would be willing to bet that these incidents were caused by user error. Contrary to popular belief, LiPo batteries do not explode when you look at them cross-eyed. RE: Maybe a silly question: side thrust - why we need it ?
Engines are usually mounted with a few degrees of right and down thrust. The right thrust aids in directional stability. For example, insufficient right thrust will manifest itself when pulling vertical as the model will want to yaw left. This is due to a number of phenomenon including asymmetric propeller loading.

Wheel Pants
Anybody have a set of 2M wheel pants they're looking to get rid of? I'm looking for replacements for my UltraRC Icepoint, but any 2M pants will do at this point. The Ultra-RC webpage seems to have vanished. A couple flights off a grass field ruined them. [:@]

RE: esc and battery
ORIGINAL: beau0090_99 It's actually the combo of very little resistance and the capacitors used in the ESC circuit. This is a type of ''Hard Start'' system that is similar to an instant dead short. If you unplug the ESC and then plug it in shortly after the spark will be much less if nothing because the caps are still partly charged. There are some articles that talk about using a ''soft start'' circuit, especially on high voltage systems to elliminate this arcing, so that your contacts don't get too corroded. They use a resistor and another lead with the negative lead in tandem to charge the caps at low current and then plug in the main positive lead for main power. I think I saw this detailed in one of the recent MA magazines. Curtis
Yes, and the instructions for the resistor "fix" were in MA a few months ago.

RE: esc and battery
It happens because there is practically no resistance from the battery to ESC. Current = Voltage/Resistance. Very low resistance = high current. Very large batteries will actually snap when connected.

RE: Some questions on designing my own pattern plane
Well, I do know about the canalizer. The propeller blows the air around the fuselage in a clockwise motion (known as the spiraling slipstream). The canalizer helps straighten out some of this rotating turbulent air, thus allowing the tail to become more effective.

RE: receiver battery
In case you didn't know, A five cell battery reading 6V could be anywhere from 80% full to almost drained. 6V is the nominal voltage, so the voltage fully charged is around 7V.
