RE: REDCAT WHY DO THE GEARS STRIP OUT??
Seeing as i now have read over most of the posts since i have been gone... umm i hear alot of gears stripping during idle.... umm "IDLE'??? how do you strip gears during idle... when running idle your car should not move... set up correctly you shoulde never stip throttle gears during idle... i am assuming most got it out of the box. charge the glow started, filled it with fuel and fired it up... i did the same thing. but if this is the case then i guess when fired up without any look over or neddle adjustments it idled WAY high. thus stripping the gears.... to any and all whom are having problems with any Nitro car. have patience... redcat was my first Nitro and i was at the point of many. "this is a piece of shit crap car" i admit it has a few parts that could be made better. but as for Nitro RC's redcat is one of the best for a FIRST time n00b to the hobby.... hang in there guys... i did...

RE: REDCAT WHY DO THE GEARS STRIP OUT??
Hey guys. long time no talk. Popper, the Chubby's, Ehroof. how is everyone? been awhile since i have stopped by. have not had internet forawhile and got a brand new 6month old baby boy. w00t for me. :) Anywho. i fired up my redcat VX the other day. ran it hard!!, seeing as i have not started it in like 4-5 months. fired up no problem. After about 20 min of running i brought it back in and looked it over. I found i have roasted/toasted/broken my muffler gasket. it is leaking all over through the muffler mount.... Thing is i cannot find where to get just the muffler head gasket, found muffler mounts. the muffler itself. but no gasket. atleast no gasket for my .16VX engine. I poked through TST website but notice it has gone through a major change, cant find anything relating to my engine or car anymore. if you guys could point me in the right direction. or tell me that i have to buy the whole mounts just to get the little rubber piece i need, i would be very thankful. got a new mini DV cam. gonna post some vids. My brother has the Revo 3.3, im gonna help him set up. he has had it for awhile. ran it lots. but blew his piston rod about a month ago. he mailed it in and the sent him s new engine. so we put it back in and are gonna take it for a run this weekend. Good to be back. see you guys more often.

posi traction is not offered at all in any car truck or buggy that i know of. i once looked into this and found that it is possable but not good. so there must be somthing else wrong with yours what seems to be the prob. add a little detail.

RE: TEMP.OF ENGINE??
well i test mine with a laser temp gun. aim it just beside the glow plug in the engine heatsink. the normal temp here in kamloops bc is very hot in the summer and super DRY! about 104 on a good cool day. and my engine does not run above 190. and she is running good. i have had it upward of 250 but it is usless for my onroad. too fast for anything around. so i tone her down and richen her up. got awsome (off the line) it all really depends on many things that will make your engine run good. i cant wait till the winter. it gets around -30 here easy. dont know what it will run like then.

Forum awards show
Welcome all to the first annual RC Universe Redcat support forum awards show. Tonight we bring you live to the RC universe forum. Here we have tonight making the first appearance the "chubbys'" The dedication and perseverance these two show in helping others accross the globe is a major asset to the RC community. They have been nominated to earn the joint MVP award tonight and they look like they have a good chance. Right behind them also in running to earn the MVP award is non-other than the crashem, bashem man himself "Popper" This guy has shown us nothing less of pure skill in the face of repair. his new idea's on frictionless bearrings have put the RC community FAR ahead of its time in the R&D labs accross the world. Next on our program tonight we have the Hard-ass award. Ehroof looks likes he has no compitition on this one tonight folks. His witty banter and love of defiance has made this guy our local forum "i dont take shit" man. with accepting nothing less than perfection on his cars, Ehroof has had his fair share of headbunting chats on the forum. And last but not least we have the Partsman award. for the running in this award we have TBJ (Thunderbirdjunkie) his knowledge of parts is vast. i would not be suprised if anyone here in this room were to show him a part he would know exactly what part# it would be. Well i was bored thismorning guys. its about 630am here where i am and i did not have to go to work. since i cant fire up my car and rip her down the road i figured i would have a thread that gave praise to everyone that has helped and will continue to help on this forum. i myself got a little carried away with the whole fiction thing. dont take anything personally in what i said. i was just trying to be funny. i still love ya ehroof. hehe. and i know there is lots more than who i mentioned. i will leave that to others. i know there are many more that have helped and im giving everyone a chance to give them praise here. thankyou all again and keep up the aswome work. ~Nex~

RE: RCS
w00t. found washers and stuff and surplus store today... got the car running again.. only took it out for a tank. seems to be fine. still to rich and i dont think its changing gears... will look into later. got to watch a movie tonight with the women. har har update: ran it a bit lastnight. got to excited about FINALLY getting back on the road, and forgot to put the servo screw back in that holds the throttle and brake linkage. well not thinking about it i ran her up and down the street outside my house. got her doing a good speed, gave her a little more gas and she maxed right out. i hit the brakes and nothing. AHHHHHH CANT STOP!! tried steering her back to me and it was a no go. lmao. ran her head on into the curb maxed out. she did and end over end and spun upright on her front tires then the engine died. just a little damage on front bumper. put the servo screw back in once i figured out what happened and she ran fine again.... still got to figure out how to lean it up with keeping the idle fine... one thing i notice was that i can run from a full tank and about half way through the tank she idles great to the last drop, but once i fill her up again she starts idling high again. any thoughts.??

RE: RCS
kewl kewl... yea (gotalightning) thats the same manual that came with my car, but i wanted a little more than what it has to offer. as for another part im trying to identify... (roller barring) (oilbarring) two different parts correct? i need the one that is used in the clutch bell on both sides. used also in the main gear set. i thought i ordered the right ones. but i did not. as for the washers... still no luck. i cant find them anywhere. my next trip will be to this local hardware store with my clutch assembly and engine to try them on. (if any are found) still missing/needing a few small flat washers/lockwashers/thin washers i have seen what was posted before about the whole clutch assembly in the FAQ and it did help. i just cant get my damn hands on parts.!!! i got my order from topspeedtoys yesterday and i was suprised to see how fast they got it to Canada. but like i said. got a few wrong parts. lol WASHERS!! WASHERS!!

RCS
Was wondering if redcat had some manuals sitting around. the one that comes with the RTR lightining has very good blueprints but not the parts or numbers im looking for. there is no diagram for the clutch bell housing and clutch shoes. this is getting a little old with the whole spur gears stripping and stuff. im not here to try and start that again. but im putting back together the lightning i took apart. (lol) and need a little more reference than the manual and my retarted local hobby shop owner. its all fine and dandy that Popper/chubbysuncle/chubbysdad/ehroof/ and many others that have all gave more than i would ever ask for. but the learning curve is still there and your never going to learn unless you (hands-on) it. i just dont feel like putting it back together TOTALLY wrong and when i start it up i rip apart my gears again. the first time i started it (ever) i so thought i was going to fry the engine cuz i thought it was running like crazy. after a little adjusting it is ildeing puuuuuurrrrrrfect. but they way it sounded to me at first i thought i was going to break it. i was not aware that the RPM of these little engines is huge compared to a normal car/truck. once i kinda figured stuff out and read all night and day about nitro RC's i now know alot more than i would ever. i just need a few parts numbers. some ppl say spur gear some say throttle gear some say main gear. are these all not the same?? i figured out what gears i need, took me awhile to figure out what parts i lost off the clutch bell (thanks popper/ the chubbys') but there is not a part number for the oil berrings or washer/washers/lockwasher because i cannot find them in the book anywhere due to not having diagram of clutch bell and parts for it. sorry, when i say parts for clutch bell i mean everthing from clutch shoes out to screw. PS thanks to popper he got me a pick of what should be around the clutch bell. (his own) just hoping redcat might be able to help with this.

RE: Redcats support
well lets use this thread to put it too the test. I am curious about a few parts and wish to know the parts # off the spare parts list on there website. I still need the screw which holds part # 02023 (clutch bell) on. i have been told from some here that part #02095 (M3*8 cap screw) should do the trick. I still dont know if i have the right washers but they seem to fit. a proper part# or somthing i could use besides "try your local hardware store and just see if it fits" would be a better help. P.S. popper, chubbysuncle, chubbysdad, i have gone through this topic before and thankyou again here for all your help. but i would like to see if i can get parts #'s and answers from redcat. I would like to think that they had access to there cars before anyone else and have sombody around who can take every car apart and give the parts # of whatever part they pull from a fully assembled RTR. Please and Thanks Redcat Racing

RE: 80+ MPH?! I don't think so...
What if you bought the thing and they advertised it at 369.99 and your credit card was billed for 449.99?
well thats just stupid. now your not thinking... what they claim would be like saying. "349.99 and up". which would make whatever your going to buy between 349.99 and whatever is higher they are selling the product for. its up to you to make sure you buy what your getting at what ever price you see. correct.? well be able to do somthing is like saying this 10 yr old biy is able to life 200lbs, but not after he has grow and made himself be able to lift 200 lbs. im not saying its NOT false advertising, its just curretly within there legal rights to post such a thing. thats up to them. do i agree with it?.. NO! i dont. but these cars /trucks/buggies are very tempermental. you say your tires explode.. Glue a set on. lol i will try to prove you wrong by making one of these go 80+ might take a bit. im not going to lie. i dont have any extra cash lying around. but i will give it a try. and im going to say it again. it say able. so i more than likly think that they cannot go 80+ out of the box. but technically thats not there claim. so its a battle of words till redcat changes what there going to advertise.

RE: 80+ MPH?! I don't think so...
ok. im going to close this topic once and for all with this post. ok all this advertisment talk about 80+ MPH on a buggy... Well i would have to say that the buggy is capable of 80+ but not stock out of the box. BUT IT CAN DO 80+ MPH!! just think about that for a second... ok. now that you thought about it maybe you can grasp this... how many nitro cars out there are advertised with the speed they can do.. well who ever does the advertising makes a guesstmate of a round about speed that the car is capable of.. CAPABLE OF!! that does not mean you can rip it outa the box, fill er up and be doing 80 on your second tank of fuel. I do beleave it is capable of going 80+ but it cant do 80 stock. so its all up the the driver to make his/her car run how they like it. So the advertising part you can do nothing about. they are totally within there rights to advertise that. Basically Redcat says what there car can do so people will buy it.. it is a little sneaky on there behalf but like RCS said. there is nothing he can do. If you dont like it they dont buy it... you can go buy the HPI that says 50+, but you see how they say 50+ i have a friend who has his going faster that 50, and if he wanted could more than likly get it going 80+ but do they advertise that??? NO! because they are a bigger company who has had there problems like this before and probably retracted there advertising statment because they got tons of emails about this topic too. Maybe redcat will retract there statment too. BUT IT CAN DO 80+ you just need the time and money. so for all you n00bs like me. just enjoy your new hobby and be happy with your car/truck/buggy. If your here complaining about your car not going as fast as advertised, then you either have too much time on your hands, or you are an advid RC hobbiest and would not be here in the first place, you would already be able to answer your own question.

RE: 80+ MPH?! I don't think so...
Well i dont know about the 80+MPH on the buggy. but i bought the lightningVX and after about 30 tanks and a repair or two i clocked my car doing over 46MPH. I have not even opened it right up yet. i still have room on the throttle and can lean it up still. I like my car the way it runs now and dont htink i will try getting more power out of it. I dont need to. where are you going to be needing to go over 50MPH unless your running it on the highway. just my two cents.

RE: breaking in
More than likly flooding the engine. It happened to me too. was wondering why it died once i started to hit 3/4 to full throttle. Too much fuel!! engine get too cold when that much fuel is added and cannot egnite future fuel. hence stall. if you wanted to test the theroy you could find a way to strap your glow starter on and try reaching full throttle again. lmao. not what i suggest. lol. just my retarted friends idea to keep maximum oil cooling while breaking in a engine. over kill in my books.

RE: REDCAT WHY DO THE GEARS STRIP OUT??
its all good. I dont want to make a new topic everytime. And as far as i know its still an issue that has not had an answer from redcat. The only answer i see is *blank* But if this is still a problem let us know. I acutally think its the production line. Seeing as how new i am to this and all the info i have taken in since i started. The conclusion i have come up with is a balance between checking your entire ride over for lose screws and engine allignment, and running the snot out of it right away, and by right away i dont mean the first tank. (After break in) Mine lasted almost 20 tanks. but i lost a screw and toasted the gears along with losing parts. BAH! Buy more parts, fix your ride, drive HARD! Im still looking for a good parts dealer that delivers to canada. (topspeedtoys) is my only choice so far.
