RE: OS GT33 33cc gasser
Geia sou Matt, Thanks for the answer. Everything is ok with the OS, it was a bit difficult to start for the first time but after that, the engine starts relativelly easily with the stick. I ran it with Belray H1R 4% mix and APC 18x10 PN, after a 16OZ and 3 flights of 10 minutes I get 8050 rpm with the APC. I think this is ok. I am still at the factory settings, but have richened the High 1/8 of a turn. The only problem I face is that some times at start the engines rotates on the opposite. I kill it and start again. What is the reason for that really? Here is a video of the intitial start ups... [link]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6asjYvx7iI[/link] Regards, Nikos

RE: OS GT33 33cc gasser
Hi Matt, I have seen your posts regarding the the OS GT33. Tomorrow I will do some bench testing before installing in my Extreme Flight Extra 78'' with stock muffler. I have a spare ignition set from DLE 55 RCEXL, would you recommend to swap it over the OS CDI? I would not rather to use a starter to be honest. In such case should change the position of the Haul sensor at all? If I use the OS CDI would yout recommend to change the timing too? I have a set of pattern props that I used to run on my YS 170 these are APC 18.1x10W, 19x11. Also I have some fun fly props such as APC 18x8W and 19x8W. Which one would you recommend for breaking in - propabey 18x8 or 19x8? Finally with the pattern props will the engine have a quick transition as the plane will be used for IMAC 3D freestyle type of flying? Many thanks in advance, Nikos

Hi, On the 8th of December a new version of software came out. Do you know what exactly offers compared to the previous version? The pdf note in the Futaba web site accompanies the previous version. This radio is quite good during flight may be is my idea but balances and feels better then the 12Z. Thanks, Nikos

Black Powder in Exhaust Headers
Hi, I have noticed some black powder residing on the inner surfaces of my exhaust headers. The black overlay is not oily but rather dry. My engine is broken in, has around 25-30 liters of gas. I ran it initially with Amsoil 2% and now 1,5%. Is that indication of lean or rich setting? Do you think that this may be due to smoike oil ran in the past? Any opinions here please? The engine works pretty well it is a TMM 106i but this black poweder worries me. Here is a video of a recent test flight: [link]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DS3jk35j32k[/link]

RE: Futaba 14MZ
Hi all, What is you average flight time with the 14MZ? How many pattern flights can you do 8-9 mins each with the 2.2 mAh pack and 20secs screensaver? Finally I would like to use the option of the mix precentage memory, can you explain briefly how you do that? You fly and correct with thumbs in KE but the Tx stores the percentage of correction inputs and then you set these percentages in order to de-couple. Always also had the question since I first used the 12Z. Do you use hysterisis and in which cases? Oh...I like the fact that in latest version of software it does not ask you to transmit or not...:) Thanks in advance, Nikos

RE: NEW!! Delro composite line
Hi Bruno, What is the flight duration of with the 8S 4500mAh? Since the model came light would you try higher capacity for increasing flight time when practicing? I am asking because I would be interested in at least 8,5 to 9 minutes of flying. eg. practicing P schedule and then some maneuvers. Not many pilots have used this setup, but according to Andrew Jesky (I read another thread) performs quite well. Is the Hata prop the same as the latest Carbon by Delro? Is their mold based on the Hata prop? I guess that in windy conditions the 19 inch would perform a lot better than 21??? Final question I noticed that the battery is not fastened with velcro straps but with a carbon rod attached on a robart hinge. How does this system work really? Does it provide flexibility to use packs of other physical dimensions? You probably use the same on Addiction???:) Sorry for making so many questions...but there is always a reason behind...;) Thanks in advance, Nikos

RE: YS Electric Motors??
I had the chance to talk with CPLR about power plants in F3A. His statement was: 'F3A is thermal and not electric' so I doubt that CPLR will ever change as long as he is a Champion in F3A. In July I partcipated in a competition where it was the first time I flew with so much wind. It should have been around 6 bft or more. I fly glow, in this contest 4-5 more fellows were flying YS also, the rest 35 or more participants were electric. Well in pretty rough and turbulent conditions like these, electrics did have the advantage. In the past YS had it but not any more, the technology of LiPos and e-motors has been advanced. For example in the top of the humpty bump I thought my plane was in a harrier, the electric guys bumped the throttle and did it very easily and in constant speed. Gernot Bruckmann was flying on 8S with AXI and still had more power than YS. May be the new powerplants such as the 175 CDI with 20x10 prop could emulate this power will see... Top guys like Chip, CPLR, QQ can win with any type of setup, but the average flyer or lower like my self can get some advantage from electric models in terms of reliability, maintenance and power. That's my piece of cake. Rgrds, Nikos

RE: European Championship In AUSTRIA
What does it take to be a judge in contest like this? Who makes the decision about judges? Being a rep of my country of F3A in the FAI commitee, our federation was never asked to vote about judges selection in euro contest. I will not comment about biasing because I want to believe that there is no biasing in such a contest. May be there are not so well trained judges as others but I would never think that a judge is biased. So a good counter measure would be a very careful selection of experienced judges. Thank god TBL is there to give some fair result.[;)] So I believe the top 3 deserve to be there! Congratulations to all pilots, and specially to the winners! Also congratulations to F3A team Italy for the great team result! If you consider that two of the three Italian pilots (Hanes and Marco who is 14 yrs old) participated for the first time in euro champs and went to the semi finals and finals this is a great achievement. After 3 rounds in the same panels in P, CPLR 1501, Seba 1501,40. For these pilots the competition has just started, the scores just show that they are very close nothing more.

RE: European Championship In AUSTRIA
If you the check overal scores which are the sums of both panels Seba and CPLR are close by a hair...unbelievable. I think CPLR lost the first round because of very strong wind according to what Ola Flemming reported. Seba must be flying very well though...best of luck to all competitors.

RE: Rapicon Fuel 30% Nitro 23% Oil
Hi, Today I tried the Rapicon 30, 22 Heli mix on my YS-170DZ. Initially I had a dead stick due to NRV of the injector it was rotating and and was blocking the fuel in the silicon tube. I replaced it with a FESTO tube which is not flexible enough thus does not let the NRV to rotate and tested the fuel. Well at 1.5 to 1 3/4 turns out for the mix needle I could not see significant smoke trail as with CP Heli 30/22 and on the ground the oil stamp was not as big with CP. So I thought the engine was lean, I richened to 2 1/4 at this setting I could see now smoke trail but, operation was not as expected at 45' uplines to inverted the engine sound changed. This happened during 4th flight where I had a dead stick finally, I think I was too rich. In previous 3 flights and same setting no problems, but temp was lower. After landing I set the engine at 1 3/4 out and performed some static tests. Well I could not hold the plane, power was insane but still no smoke trail and oil stamp on the ground was minimal, idle was also very reliable. I wonder where is that 22% oil consumed in such case? So any fellow pattern fliers have noticed similar behaviour with this fuel on YS 170DZ? Please let me know. Regards, PS: At the same needle setting I tried CP and Wildcat 30 Heli mix and top end was 300-400 rpm more, I borrowed some from two Heli pilots to compare. I suppose Rapicon requires leaner needle settings???

At the worlds there was a guy with two glow Zeques from Argentina who flew very well, did he fly in this contest? I can see only electric models that's why asking. Nice pictures and congratulations Chip for your win. I hope to see you in the top world ranks again in my opinion you are one of the 4-5 pattern gurus worldwide who are active in terms of flying and designing nowdays. If I bought an electric model right now for sure this would be a VISA, I know this is a Hyde design...[;)] Regards, N

RE: Rapicon Fuel 30% Nitro 23% Oil
Hi Andy, I am sorry for the late reply. I finally tested Rapicon 30% Heli blend, not on my pattern plane at this stage. Tests were done on a Sebart Sukhoi 140 powered by a YS 160DZ turning an APC 18x10 PN prop. Results are very good indeed, at the same needle settings engines runs very cool and on a shiny day smoke trail is not as significant. I did not fly pattern but I think the video provides some evidence on the engine operation. [youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcW9AViwRCA[/youtube] My best regards and happy landings. Nikos

Nice thread. Here is my PRC YAK 37%. My setup is: - TMM 106i running on canisters =>6450 rpm with TBM 27x10 prop (power is very good for the plane) - SAVOX Servos all around except rudder where I use JR 8911 - Emcotec DPSI RV Magic 5 (thank you emcotec for the support :)) - For ignition Emcotec RCS with optical interface - 3 x Fromeco LiIon 2600 mAh - Futaba 12Z FASST radio with 6008 rx Well the plane flies pretty well just need to set it up a bit more, I have 4-5 flights so far as I still break in my engine.

I fly the pinch method but I wish I could fly with thumbs only. It is very difficult to fly without a neckstrap and also when I borrow someone else's Tx I can not get used to it as I am used to some specific stick length. I think the pinch method should be accompanied with some kind of tray which is not very practical. Top guys such as QQ, Hyde, Shulman, Onda, Mayer, Seba, Leseberg etc. fly thumbs only if I am not mistaken, with very good results.[:)] I think it is up to what someone prefers and finds more practical.

Hi, Last night I injected pure alcohol in the carb main needle nipple, today I tested the model. I had about 100 rpm increase, however the engine still does not provide its full potential. Engine is reliable (did not hesitate to perform some low KEs) but does not provide the power. When I returned I disassembled the engine and I will install soon a new pump. I also cleaned the carb very well again. Engine internals seem to be in a very good condition as new. I will test soon again and will let you know...thanks to all! Best regards, Nikos
