RE: Don Muddiman Flying Machine
ORIGINAL: Condor060 For you guys that want your own color scheme, Removing the existing covering isn't going to be difficult. Then you can cover it anyway you want. I have flown the FM in several different colors and the black and yellow is the best for me. And yes, the chicks covering the FM are china dallas cowboy cheerleaders with Brittney Spears (Hit me baby one more time) skirts. Well, its nice to imagine our final Flying Machine Monsters are only coverd by hot chicks covered in hot oil so as long as I am not asked to provide pictures we will all just keep the faith. Tomorrow I should have an arrival date to Seattle so we can all start planning on our assult on our flying fields as we take over the world in FM mayhem. Our next adventure is going to be a composite FM. You can bank on it.
My scratch built is O/S powered as Don's was (Not near as good, although they started making available to us carbs with the needle for the O/S .46 now) (mine has remote needle[:'(]) I have a new Rossi in the box, and was waiting to use it on the Composite, but I think the ARF is going to get the Rossi, I am sick of having it call my name every time I pass the bench [:D] I'll purchase another power plant for the composite FM when we get that far! Glad to see we are close, and I am working on the wife to let me purchase 2 or 3 right off the bat! Thanks again for all the hard work and efffort you guys (And East) put into making this ARF a reality!
ORIGINAL: ovationdave I think you just inadvertently immasculated every one of us that spends hours of tedious effort covering a plane. ;-) Dave
ORIGINAL: Condor060 We looked at uncovered pricing. Its just not worth it. It only takes these girls about an hour to cover an aircraft. The price difference is 10 bucks.

not really, if your on an assembly line all day, and you know a few manufacturing tips, this can be done quite efficiently compaired to my table in the garage, one at a time etc..... Don't forget the cutting machines they have today.....my wife can cut totally custom OS Logo's and such, from self adhesive, mono-coat, etc...... Covering is a real talent........IMHO........ it makes sense in this forum, where up till now these are all scratch built, people want ARC - and I have seen some awesome color schems out there........I personally do not like the black / yellow as my favorite scheme, but once they are up there and moving like the FM does, they are all black I guess.... RE: I am depressed!
I am so lucky to live in south FLA and have some killer resources in terms of LHS....... 1- First off of the 4 to 6 "Local Shops" I have at my disposal........ I have some of the best pilots and R/C users........ many at the top of the game......(behind the counters).......Jets, Giant Scale, Pylon, Heli, Cars, you name it........I can go to a LHS that has some "Real Top Notch Talent"...in any catagory........I am so lucky. 2 - Forget the fact that the largest is 33,000 SQ foot, so it has alot of stock, others range from 20,000 to small 2500-3500 SQ footers, but again, the talent behind the counter is top notch......so they know what you need and generally have stock....... Weather you need BVM items or top of the line Jet stuff, Giant scale, Glow, Electric...........whatever, I am feeling guilty after reading this thread [:-] See attached, the one pic is a LHS sponsered Jet rally, and that field regularly sees some of the best Jet and plane pilots in the world (IMHO) I guarantee there is more than one guy at that field on any given Sunday that has been to Top gun, FLA Jets, Tripple tree, etc........... Again, I have a great field (or 2) , great LHS's and while the hobby is changing..........I am happy with my local resources. Advice - Move to South FLA? [:D] Link to Rob and a BVM Electra.......unreal to watch these guys fly these [:D] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMNSxfbBmmM&feature=player_embedded

RE: Most Blatant
I say who cares, and I DO NOT mean the things the OP is pointing out here......I mean who cares if HK comes or goes...... these are LOW sales tactics and they must need these to drive their sales, as most of the products are low end junk I buy "Some" of their batteries because they are generally OK, and 60-70% of a good one (If that) at 20-30% of the cost.....so I deal with it. Who can afford a box of 18 Thunder power cells? Not me [:D] however, I laugh all the time at folks at the park or the field with HK products, as they are such LOW END junk..... If you want to pay $6 for an "Orange" Rx unit, god bless, you get what you pay for in this world....... Last time I saw one it was in a P-51 headed straight for a canal when the user lost control [:'(] I stick almost exclusively to the good stuff (SIG/Horizon/Hobbico/BVM/DA/etc) and never look back. It cost a little more, but what is the point otherwise. The most valuable thing in the entire equation of a new plane, maiden flight, trip to the field to have fun.....is MY TIME! I do not have time to fool around with cheap stuff made in China......and what makes me mad is they lie on the customs forms about the taxes....... I know some of my other stuff is made in China as well, but made to a higher standard when it is for Horizon, etc...... Anytime I can, I try to pay a little more and by something MADE IN USA! It is good for "Our" future.......although getting harder to do every day [:o] my 2 cents -peace out

RE: 60 size ARF
ORIGINAL: Iherling What is a good 60 size ARF ...must be an ARF.. with a symmetrical or semisymmetrical airfoil that is a good 2nd plane. Have done loops rolls some inverted flight with my trainer but want to step up. I have read tons of previous posts on good 2nd planes, but am looking for a down and dirty answer or suggestion thanks
I was glad my teacher helped me in this area.......of course I did NOT listen and crashed an Extra 300S and a revolver, amongst others. But the best second plane IMHO (No flameing here) [:D] is a Hangar 9 Ultra Stick...A.K.A. "Ugly Stick" I alwayas have one in the hangar, I prefer the .40 size as it is RED and more manevuerable IMHO...I am on my 5th "Ugly Stick" in just about 5 years flying. I set it up tail dragger so you get used to the rear wheel and on mild rate, it is as tame as a high wing trainer........ with an O/S .55 and the right prop, it is unlimited acrobatics when setup correctly. They are alot of fun and I even like the .60 size it's just not the good colors for me [:@] I crashed a few learning to get down "Low" and "Inverted" but I still have and fly number 5 today, and it is my favorite warm up plane as well as get crazy and don't care plane..........

ok, so I have trimed the fleet and this is where I stand ( Some GAS, Some Electric, and some GLow) [:)] 1 - Hangar 9 Ultra Stick - 40 size - O/S .55 and Pipe 2 - Don Muddiman Flying Machine - O/S or Rossi power 3 - 3D Trainer - Currently 40 sized Profile Edge with O/S .55 4 - 30% TOC YAK with DA 50 - Love the Gas & Giant Scale 5 - Precision Aerobatics Extra MX with power package 6 - E-Flight Habu 32 - Stock power but retracts That's my story and I am sticking to it! Now, I am over 5 and do not even have a real war bird! So I do not see how it is possible to have only 5 planes...... -Peace out!

RE: Lipo Fires Are Real![Fantastic Advice!] Can I ask for further help?
I agree that LiPo's are the way to go. Threat them well and make sure you are not drawing to much from them during use with your setup. Charge them with a good balancing charger below C rating and use a LiPo Bag. I have 35-45 LiPo's from 2S to 6S up to 5000maH, and I charge them all in LiPo bags in house. I only charge when I am in the shop and able to watch them, I always have an extinguisher handy Only use good quality balance chargers and also get a good amp meter with a LiPo checker built in most of the issues I see are from abuse or mis-use in some way....... Good Luck!
ORIGINAL: lrb75 Get the fan that is designed for the plane. It is almost the same price $35 for the fan $75 for the motor. Less headaches and guesswork. The retracts will probably fit but the 3mm struts are a no go. The 3.5mm struts on the recommended gear are just right. They do bend on rough landings but hold up fine for normal use. I do recommend the Turnigy 6s 5000mah 40c packs for the Habu. My two are working great. RE: Don Muddiman Flying Machine
ORIGINAL: screamrp Hi RC Maniac,  Please trust what I say here. The Flying Machine is VERY versatile;  Don Muddimans Flying Machine ARFs weigh the same or less than the scratch built ones we have flown at Sky Pirates RC Club using everything from Dub-Jett 50s to O.S.46, Thunder Tiger 46 Pro, K&B 46, O.S. 40, and it even flew with a O.S.32 on it, but has to be made to fit, but the point is, it flew pretty well even under powered, which helps allot of guys slowly work their way up to being an advanced Pilot who can ring it out some day. This is the REAL PLUS also; if you want to go all ELECTRIC, no problem !!  Here is the best, cheapest way to go and the speed is good too. !! Motor use a NEO-DYM 25 - with a 10x8E APC Prop, or play around some on your own. ESC - (electronic speed controller) use a 75 Amp ice light by Phoenix Castle up to a 100 amp . // Don't go cheap here !! Lipo Battery use a (WinForce) 4-cell 14.8 volt 3000mah 35C rating, only 277 grams - you can get these on Ebay from GO-MARKET ( Hobby King ) for 35.00 free shipping. Never pay 85.00 for one.!! You will see higher than recommended amp and watt readings, don't worry about that, the key to Electrics is GET AIR FLOW IN & 4x that much OUT. // So modify the nose with GILL slits and air intake underneath front bottom of fuselage. // Then on the rear bottom of fuselage between bulkeds, open up a 1 3/4'' wide x 3'' long rectangle hole (door) to vent as much air out as possible. Be sure to cut the front of this opening at a 45 degree slant toward the front so as to not grab air, but help exit it out. Hope my directions help some here.??  This set up will give you flight times as long as any fuel plane, and enough speed to keep up or out run most. There are other Lipos you can try also, I'm just saying this is the best and cheapest. Now, if you want to go all Electric and run the same speed as the O.S. 55 , still no problem with Don's own plane. // Lighten it up every where you can, use Hitech HS-65-HB Servos, same set up as above, but go to a 5 cell Lipo or a 6-cell if you really want to push it to the max, but you will also have to choose props that let the motor wind on up and never over load an electric more than 10% of it's rpms. Keep the motors cool and you can out perform anybody else around.  Here is an example of what I'm trying to say. // On my Scream Machine Reaper, I run a 34 amp / 275 watt motor. However, I push it to 60 amps & 970 to 1017 watts, but I keep it cool by using a RAM AIR hatch cover.  The other advantage of the Flying Machine is, you have room enough on the bottom to make a trap door for easy loading and unloading your Lipo battery without removing the wing.    So the Flying Machine can be whatever you make it. !! There is no limit with Don's plane, your BRAIN is the only limit, you the Pilot are the weakest link here. !! LOLs !! Roger Purcell The King of Scream LOLs !! - but DON is the MASTER !!
I agree the Electric options here are truly impresive and I would bet you see Condor with a e-Flying Machine or a converstion kit. Rich(Flyingmachine) and I have also put forth serious interest in helping develop the "Composite" Flying machine and I have a Rosi Speed and Pipe just waiting for it.....[:D] So does Rich.....he actually flies his in a scratch built FM airframe......and represents well I might add.....[X(]

RE: HABU 32?
Just got a Habu 32 and I am not feeling good about the MC-35 Servo's so I am taking a chance and setting up with Savox servo's [:-] http://www.savoxusa.com/Savox_SH0255MG_Micro_Digital_Servo_p/savsh0255mg.htm Anyone ever used these? I hear from my LHS they are awesome, and they look good. [X(] I have some Hitec micro MG servo's in a PA Extra MX but i am not happy with how they center..... I am looking for a good metal gear servo for the Habu that will not break the bank I prefer Digital.....but some features are hard to find in a micro..... I am using the recommended JR servo on the rudder, of course Anyone with experience on Savox servos that could weigh in here would be helpful Thanks!
