I didn't follow the Traxxas break-in instructions and just did the heat cycle method. After about 35-45 mins, the motor was broken in and ready for tuning. Don't get to discouraged. It could be worse. You could have a brand new 3.3 motorr with a pull starter instead of the EZ start.... Basically, it was hell in a handbag to even fire it up!

RE: Traxxas 3.3 power rating ??
I agree! My experiance with this motor in a Revo, and brand new in my S-Maxx has been great! I got more out of it on the S-Maxx because it is a lot lighter than the Revo. Easy to break in, easy to tune and gives a ton more power over my 2.5. If you get it with a pull start.... good luck starting it! [:D]

Oh and I wanted to add that getting the FOC will also shed some excess weight too. You might want to look into that as well.

RE: finshed revo break in, now what?
+1 on the MotorSaver AF and a tuned exhaust. Also, shedding excess weight would help too. I removed the EZ start right away on my S-Maxx and it shaves more than couple oz's. I like the THS exhausts for the Maxx's and Revo's. I plan on getting one after the holidays.

Some tuned pipes come with a stinger and that usually quiets them down some. I'm running the Traxxas Resonator pipe right now with a stinger on it. Not too loud at all!

My best friend has a Revo, and I absolutely love that thing! It is pretty fast and sturdy out of the box, so you shouldn't be disappointed with the 3.3. Although he eventually upgraded to the .26 Picco Max for more power and speed.

RE: 2.5 to 3.3 upgarde
You can look up their program on the Traxxas website. Basically, it will tell you to take your motor w/ carb to your LHS and exchange it. Your LHS will provide you with a brand new 3.3 TRX for around $100+. So you save yourself about $70. Be sure to get the 3.3 motor mount too. It's sturdier for the extra 60% of power you'll be putting down! [:D] I just did this motor swap a week ago! I am very very happy with the 3.3! I just need some gearing (planned to be done this week) for top end and I am all ready to run with my buddy's .26 Picco Revo!

I just installed a brand spanking new 3.3 with pull starter into my S-Maxx. Holy hell, that thing was a PITA to start!!!! The EZ start would have made it, well easier. But I wanted to reduce excess weight hence the pull starter. :) I need to install my new clutch bell and spur though. I'm topping out way too fast!!

RE: Maximizer Beadlocks
My buddy ended up going with the Axial bead lockers. I don't remember which model, but those things were pretty heavy too. Instead of 8 screws per wheel, the Axial's have 16 screws per wheel. Even though they were heavy, they actually helped performance in his Revo. He's running a .26 Picco and that thing has more than enough power to move! With the heavier wheels, he managed to gain distance in our local neighborhood jump by another 3 feet or so. So as long as you have the power to move them, heavier bead lockers are just fine!

RE: NEED HELP AND ADVICE FROM EXPERIENCED PEOPLE TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT MONSTER TRUCK
ORIGINAL: caseyw10 I was in your same position about 4 weeks ago, wondering savage or revo or t-maxx. I eliminated the t-maxx pretty fast and was left to the savage or the revo. after watching both go at it at the my lhs, i sided with the revo. the guy who had the savage kept pulling it aside to tune it to try to make it "able to keep up with the revo." Seeing as i'm more of a revo guy rather than savage isnt becasue im totally biased; I was in the same position as you are and choose the revo and am happy with my decision (wish i could have gotten both!) But if your not wanting to replace any parts at all; which If you break the arms on the revo and get the RPM arms it is unstopable) but if not, the savage will probably last longer stock, but if you just replace the arms with RPM on the revo while as you go, it will take the savage down
What caused you to elimante the T-maxx from the options so quickly?

Did he ask, or does he care if truggies were an evolutionary step from MT's, no, read the topic again dude. For the dollars, stay out of RC anything, to be frank. Every thread you turn into a truggy VS every thing else, bring your super truggy over to my house l want to race it in my diesel hilux, after l run your truggy over and flatten it maybe you will quit it ? ... The guys asking for MT, if you disagree with every topic posted, try using the PM service, instead of hijaking every thread. l have broken way less parts on my REVO doing insane massive jumps than ANY other type or brand or make of RC car. Your points about truggies l disagree with in alot of cases. You seem to think you can never be wrong ? oK truggies may not be boring', so to speak, but, they in my opinion have alot less to them, are not as much FUN up the bush, l wouldnt even dream of mud bashing a low to the ground get water in your electrics + air filter truggy, you cannot take the same amount of energy into the chassis in a huge jump without overstressing the plastic's on a truggy, l dont care what you recon or your experiences, l judge by my own, truggies do NOT go as well in 4 inch or more grass, l have found on sand dunes, the REVO outright pwns with its wide wheels and high ride, a truggy is no match on a steep sand dune, and before you say it, no a truggy is not made for that, here we go again yes ? Its a MT thread mate, start a truggy thread if you like, you know l'll post, stop hijaking, lalalalalalalalala, can l call you osama ? !!! hahaha all good. Get a REVO mate, ignore these truggy 'experts' get what 'you' wanted, if by some bezarre chance you do like the idea of a truggy, l'll be more than happy to appologise, to all of yas. Short of what looks like a mind decided short of brand and make, l would say this guys is likely to get MT still. l would recon he's tossing up, [at a guess] between savage and revo. So decided what your going with yet mate ?
Post #35 ^^^ The OP already got himself into a Savage 4.6 kit.

RE: NEED HELP AND ADVICE FROM EXPERIENCED PEOPLE TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT MONSTER TRUCK
The Savage isn't too fast, but it is beastly and can take a "savage" bashing! The Revo is great all around. Fast, tough, and unique. There is no other RC that I know of that is anywhere near similar in set up. The T-Maxx is just like the Savage, but faster. Probably not as tough, but more than tough enough. Then there's my truck, the S-Maxx, which stands for Stadium Maxx. This truck is basically a 2.5 T-Maxx 2WD. Shorter length chassis, slightly shorter wheelbase, and slightly smaller track. I love TRAXXAS! I'd go with any Traxxas truck.

RE: S-maxx upgrades?
Congrats Captain Carny! I just picked up an S-Maxx a couple weeks ago too!!! I freaking love this truck! Pretty much everything T-Maxx will fit onto our trucks. The only difference with our trucks is that it is slightly smaller all the way around (length, width, wheelbase, etc.). I've come to the conclusion that my S-Maxx will eventually become a T-Maxx, but I LOVE the 2WD, so I plan on keeping it that way. I just installed the TRX 3.3 on Friday and did the break in yesterday afternoon, and was also able to tune. The only expression I can think of is WOW! My S-Maxx is flying now! I have another spur gear for top end that I'm going to install this week. I'm topping out way too quick for my liking, even after adjustment shift point!

The s-maxx looks a lot stronger and more robust than the jato and less likely to break aswell. Ive only ever had 4wd nitro trucks and wanna know wot the s-maxx handles like? I like the idea of being able to broad side on gravel with 2wd and mess about doin stuff like that but i don't want it to be impossible to drive in a strait line!!! How do they handle compared to a revo or t-maxx?? Thanks
It drives like a stadium truck on steroids! I really love this truck! Loads of fun and it seems that all parts are interchangeable with the T-Maxx. Highspeed runs aren't a problem at all. The braking gets some getting used to on slippery surfaces though. When I was doing some highspeed runs on asphalt and hitting the brakes, it would pull to the left because the rear wheels are locked up and the fronts aren't. On off-road terrain though, it brakes just fine! So far my S-Maxx 2.5 with Resonator pipe is quick enough to keep up with my buddies .26 Picco powered Revo! He pulls away in the top end though when my 2.5 starts topping out. I'm dropping in the 3.3 tonight and a 70 tooth spur gear. I'll have to see if I can still keep up with him after all this! LoL!
