RE: Brushless speed control
There is no good way to tell unless you can match it up to a known wattage esc like jzrf6c said. I think Hobby-Lobby sells some that are wrapped in black shrink wrap too. You can get a rough idea by its physical size (smaller ones are usually lower amperage than larger ones). Also the guage of the wires may give you a clue (the larger the diameter of the wires the more amps it was designed for). Just remember, all electronic components are filled with smoke. If you let the smoke out, it is ruined.

Well, I have an almost identicle setup. Emax 2826-06 in a converted Hobbico Avistar. 5lbs auw, 60 amp esc.,12 x 8 Master Airscrew prop. I run a 4300mhr 20c Loong Max 4s. I get run times of 10- 12 min. doing mild aerobatics between 2/3 and full throttle.

There are many purpose built watt meters for rc use. Horizon and Tower hobbies sells them as well as many other on line stores. The Watts-up meter is one that is very popular. Tower hobbies sells them for about 54$

RE: Spektrum Recievers....
ORIGINAL: rcmiket The 6100 is full range just not recommended for larger stuff. We use them in 450 size helicopters, sailplanes and EDF's all the time here. To be honest I wish they were still around I liked the way they mounted in helicopters. Mike
I agree that they are suitable for parkflyers and helis. Horizon's product page states this. The reason being-parkflyers and helis are flown at shorter ranges. Although it has been done, sailplanes are typically flown at farther ranges than even large scale model aircraft and I wouldn't use a parkflyer receiver in any of my sailplanes.

RE: Spektrum Recievers....
The 6110 and 6110e are the same except for the location of the pin outs. The "e" stands for end pins (the pins come out of the end of the receiver). Both of these receivers are upgraded versions of the 6100 and 6100e receivers. They are made for parkflyers and are not considered full range. I would not use these in a sailplane. The AR500, AR6200, AR7000 etc. are full range receivers would be a better choice for a sailplane and larger models.

RE: Is this system capable of a reasonable climb rate ?
I agree with geeter. That motor is for a 7-12 oz. slo flyer. It will only come close to 150 watts with a 3 cell lipo. With a 2 cell it would probably be in the 80-90 watt range. A 25 oz. plane would struggle to get off the ground with that amount of power.

RE: Li-Po Storage
Lipo batteries should be charged (or discharged) to about 50% for long term storage. Batteries should never be stored in the airplane. They should be put in a cool, dry area. A surplus army ammo can is a good container for storage. Other than that no other maintainance is required.

RE: hacker x55-sb-pro....... bec
It depends on the size of the servos. Generally smaller servos use less current than larger ones. Also, digital servos use more current than analog servos of the same size. That being said, if you have the room in your plane it is always better to have a seperate bec if you think you are even close to the current limit. For what little more that it costs it is good insurance.

RE: ESC question
Agree with what ArrowNaughtic said. It sounds like the low voltage cut-off in your esc is set too low. If you don' have information on how to program your esc you should shorten your flight times. I would start with about 6 or 7 min. and check your battery voltage. You then can gradually increase flight times-check battery. You should not discharge beyond 75% of capacity for maximun battery life.

RE: Spektrum AR500 Problems?
Make sure your throttle amd throttle trim are set as low as possible before you turn on the transmitter. If the esc detects throttle input when powered up it won"t arm. Rebind the receiver with the throttle turned all the way down and the other sticks at neutral. Hope this helps- Oemflyer

RE: Switching battery and radio question
jarih: You can use your 3cell lipo batteries in any plane that requires that size battery. The receiver that is in your plane (Spektrum AR500) is actually a 5 channel receiver and since it is a full range receiver you can use it in any plane that requires 5 channels or less. -OemFlyer

RE: E motor class ID
The simplest way is to find the motors maximum output in watts on its spec sheet. Some motors are rated in amps. If they are, multiply the amps by the voltage it will be run at and that will equal watts. One horsepower=746 watts (about the output of a .40 glow engine).

RE: Hobbyzone Super Cub Engine Cuts Out
Check the travel on the rudder servo. It may be going too far and stalling out. This can cause an excessive load and drop the voltage down below the cut-off on the esc which would cause the motor to stop.
ORIGINAL: geeter got three of the ar500 rx. one lasted two weeks..and dead. wouldn't bind or even lite up. didn't damage anything, it happened on the groung. sent it back to horizon three weeks ago. no response,so i called them. there sending me a new one, whenever they get them in. for a few dollars more i would buy a 6100 or 6200 they don't seem to cause as much trouble . .........................GEETER
The AR6100 is a parkflyer receiver and costs less than AR500. The AR6200 is Full range and costs a few dollars more than the AR500. I personally would use the AR500 over the AR6100 in either a parkflyer or a larger plane. I think there have been more issues with the AR6100 than the AR500. If I needed 6 channels I would definetly go with the AR6200.

RE: brushed esc problem
With some brushed escs you have to hold the throttle on your transmitter to wide open for a few seconds and then return it to full off before the throttle will arm. Sorry, I didn't read all of the previous post. What he said!

RE: PZ T-28 prop size
Any of the props you mentioned should work as they are fairly close to the stock prop (9.5 x 7.5). The only way to know for sure is to check your results with a watt meter. If you exceed the maximum output of your motor with a prop that is too large or too much pitch it will overheat and fail. If you use a prop that is too small or not enough pitch performance will be poor. Hope this helpsOemflyer

RE: New Radian
I always launch at about half throttle and ramp up slowly to about 3/4 throttle to get to altitude. I think the problem is a combination of the blade design and blade material. The blades are made so that they contact the hub when they are fully deployed. Sort of a stop so that they won't go past 90 degrees of travel. This has the effect of hitting a stick against a log. If you do it enough times it will break. This is really unnessisary because centrifugal force will not let them go much farther than that anyway (the Groupner blades will go way passed 90 degrees when static). Also the Park Zone blades don't appear to have any reenforcement material (like fiberglass or carbon fiber) in them. Just my 2 cents worthOEMFlyer

RE: New Radian
Yea, thats what I meant to say. Sorry about the typo. Yes, I was a little skepticle of the broken prop reports that I was seeing on these forums until it happened to me. Then when the second prop broke after only 3 flights I was convinced that they have a problem. I e-mailed Horizon Hobby about this. They offered no explanition as to why they are breaking but they did send me a new prop for free. I think I will stay with the Groupner blades for now.

RE: Best mini airplane
I don't think you will find any planes in the mini size that will fly outdoors unless it is dead calm. They are too light and too slow to fly outside. Even the smaller park flyers can only handle minimal wind.
