RE: Will it fly?
years ago i built a bunch of pink foam 48" ws .40 combat wings, full span elevons no rudders just twin fins the egine was mounted in the wing prop flush with Leading edge center chord was 20" tips were 8" fully symetrical airfoil and a bit over 2" thick. the spar (1/4" door skin) lined up with the wing tip leading edge and it was the cg. they werent very fast but boy did they handle well and they would inverted flat spin (secret combat tactic ..play dead then attack) at the time they only cost $20 to build the airframe

RE: using camp fuel
with all due respects well you aint me..... and not all oils are made for high rpm engines try running an outboard, or sno machine oil and you will fry an engine. i have never put much faith in synthetics for two strokes ... i have never lost an engine due to siezing using castor, even back to the 1973 yahama sc500 single dirt bike they were dropping like flies due to piston siezures, i ran castor based oils and never had a problem. but thats just me, not you huh

RE: using camp fuel
In My Fatsrat engines i run maxima 927 castor at 5 ounces to the gallon of camp fuel, the castor oil will flow to hot spots unlike regular oils which will run away from hot spots. camp fuel will run so clean that its pretty hard to get a plug reading but its more forgivable with needle settings

RE: ** Update pics 15% power gain with resonator
this resonator is only tuned for can mufflers or straight pipes .... i had an idea one time to synchronize the resonator and see where it peaked then disable the flask and enable the tuned pipe so you could get a double punch of power the stack is in the second photo that mushroom lookin aluminum thing or yoy can use the original black spit tube inside the flask. the numbers i gave out were for an engine timed at 180 exh 155 intake here is the calculator i used. just plug in your numbers as far as volume goes and in the resonance tab is where you want the RPM band to work so plug in between 13,000 to 16,000 http://www.lautsprechershop.de/tools/index_en.htm?/tools/t_helmholtz_en.htm here is a good laymans graphics of its workings http://www.phys.unsw.edu.au/jw/Helmholtz.html and another easier calculator http://www.vk2zay.net/calculators/helmholtz.php

15% power gain with resonator
the units i tested have a 355ml volume ( as reference it the same volume as a 12oz pop can) with a 3/8" diameter intake horn by 1" long, the horn can be anywhere on the resonator. basically it uses the spitback to help charge the resonator box and the inertia of the incoming air through the smaller opening overcomes the spitback which supercharges the next intake cycle. the engine comes on like a nitrous shot. the shape of the resonator isnt critical as long as you have 1" between the carb opening and the resonator wall, you will have to have the intake runner lenght set at 3 13/16" from piston face to carb opening. the resonator will give you some insurance in a dunking by keeping from gettin hydro'd. nevermind the aluminum chips it was in the construction stage here are the only pice i have left of the "ratflask" hemmholz resonator. the container was made by rubbermaid and had a very tight seal with the lid. RE: Big Block for 1/5 scale???
the rpm rating is for propped engines. the interior port layout is pretty much the same as a zen 260 or a sikk cylinder (4 port). they can be modded to spin some serious rpm, check out the heli guys. this engine is way over kill for a gas buggy kinda like puttin a hemi in a smart car

have the US builder send the engine with some loose parts (cooling ring off, starter, carb) and send it as warranty replacement parts this avoids the taxes
how do you know most are a bolt-up fit? have you tried it before? if you have, please post pics.
i know cuz ive done it a bunch of times .... when we used to do this it was way before there were digital cameras available.... most of the weedies have the same diameter flywheel and the bolt pattern for the coil was standard, chain saws dont have revlimited coils and some of them fit

RE: NEW ENGINE IDEA!
whipper snipper whacker hacker engines are rev limited at the coil to around 9500 rpm if you can find an old homelite coil they will spin up all the rpm you want and most are a bolt up fit

RE: Klotz benol castor oil
castor oil has a unique property it will run to a hot spot as regular oil will flow away from hot spots. i ran castor exclusively in my engines with gas and camp fuel. i had a reciever fail once and the engine sat there screaming in the bushes till we got to it with the chase boat and no water flowing through it. that darn thing was hot as heck but showed no signs of cylinder galling

RE: how to calculate the speed of a car?
layout 88 ft between a couple markers, have your buddy stand back and time the run with a stop watch. if you travel the 88 ft in one second, your doing 60 mph. or a shorter course is... 44 ft then its 1/2 sec per 60mph i tie wrapped my garmin Etrex to the cage [:D]

RE: gas offshore class
keep it simple.... say anything 8 ft or less can race.... two strokes 35cc, 4 strokes 50cc or twin 20's when they come online. two classes that run together ... stock/piped ... and run what you brung maybe run small cards like they do in Europe white for stock class, black for Modded making it easy for ppl on the shore to id boats and close races. i think what your after is a gentlemans class, much like the Thunderboat's race under today a group of offshore boats runnin close, lookin scale. sounds like a neat idea[:D] for the starter boat you could rig up a smoke system from a plane easy enuff. when you see smoke..... you form up behind that boat NOW!!!

RE: engine problems!
what oil and ratio are you running? do not use outboard oil you might have stuck the ring, if the bore isnt damaged just get a new piston/ring then have a buddy with a lathe take .002" off the diameter of the piston down to just above the wrist pin hole

RE: 5b question high speed problems
2 gallons ....sounds like its air leak time check the carb isolator the metal inserts might have pushed through and is leaking air. cure is first off push the metal inserts back in the iso block, get some new screws with no washers, add a larger washer that picks up the plastic iso block, also make sure they arent too long and contact the cylinder

RE: Best/Cheapest
Warehouse hobby used to sell a water powered speedo. the pickup hung off the transom. we made a standard bracket for all our boats and could switch between the boats in minutes, it has a tell tale ressetable needle and was $30 or so. we used this in conjunction with the sendech tach for testing. we also had a Garmin Etrex gps but we felt the speedo and tach were more accurate
