RE: New Pacific Aeromodel Clip Wing Monocoupe
Woohoo - USPS finally managed to get my ''carb insulator'' to me - back to assembly tomorrow night. Off to watch the Kings play Philadelphia Flyers tonight.
Minor setback tonight :( I ordered the factory carb insulator - turns out my G26 had the "new and inproved" carb insulator - the one that rotates the carb about 90 degrees counterclockwise (facing the carb)..SO...tomorrow I'll order the correct one. Did get the vertical stab on (if you haven't built your plane yet DO NOT put in that last hinge point until this step!) Tomorrow night I'll do the pull pull, control linkage for the elevator servos - time permitting maybe temp mount the carb with the "broken" insulator and get the cowl cut. Plus (to add insult to injury) picked a Severly Sucky Cigar tonight (wonder if I can get the wienerdog to smoke the rest of these Aspiras? :)

RE: ESM Fairey Swordfish
I have a rear carb on my RCGF 26 (1/7 P-47) and ZDZ-50NG (GP Ultimate), side carb on the G26 in the Clip Wing Monocoupe. I like the "cleanliness" of the rear carb install - but choke linkage can be a PITA.

RE: ESM Fairey Swordfish
The G62 might be too much - but I don't have any experience with the G45 to know what it will turn. Also we don't know yet whether the Swordfish will need nose weight or not (Zenoah's come with free nose weight :) ) I already have a line on a DL55 for $275, might just pick it up for the hell of it.

RE: ESM Fairey Swordfish
If I can pick up either a used G45/G62 (or a new DL50/55), I should be able to get one into the air for that. Will use my "standard" 645MG servos, AR7000 RX, etc.

RE: ESM Fairey Swordfish
Tomas at VQ Warbirds is expecting a lower price. This is what he sent me: "Final pricing to be determined , If you are not satisfied with the final pricing we will refund your deposit 100% , we estimated the Sale Price to be under $490 USD..." At $490 +/- I'll be building a Stringbag. If it's more than that ($800 isn't happening), I'll keep looking.

The P6-E is one of those "if I ever see it again I'll snap it up whether I want it or not" planes. Sure wish the Swordfish would release across the pond - would be nice to see _someone_ building one :)

ispirit, I'm one of the thirteen :) Question for the group - given that I'm hitting the RC swapmeet next weekend, and I know there will be a gent with his typical "table of Zenoah's" - G45 or G62? (I may still go with a DL55 as I think I have a connection) Jeff Special Swordfish Squad

The only reason I even have an 80A around is from a Funjet project I never started. Most of my CC ESC's are 45A and smaller

RE: DX-7 Throttle question
I try to make sure there's only one variable in any testing. Milady says it's the "anal electrical engineer mentality" - but then I remind her that she's an EE too :) If you have the "inventory", put an ESC and battery into the "equation" that you know is overkill - run the motor/prop combination up and chack results. Then pick a smaller ESC and battery to work with the amps you recorded. May be hard as you're already at 85A, unless you have a 100A ESC in the parts box. I have a 80A ESC and a pair of 5000mah/3S I use for this type of testing.

RE: DX-7 Throttle question
Can't speak from experience on the HV series - but all my other CC ESC's don't start to cut the throttle down until about 10% more than their rating. Is it possible that you don't have enough battery ahead of it? What I've done is to stick a huge source on it (like a pair of 5000mah) to eliminate that issue.

It should correct itself automatically. I don't have the software on this PC (work), but when I get home i'll open it and check.

RE: DX-7 Throttle question
I think the default is autocalibrate. If you have CastleLink, switch to fixed endpoints and try.

RE: New Pacific Aeromodel Clip Wing Monocoupe
Well, after all my yammering about aftermarket exhaust - I went and ordered a stock G26 can. Should start on her tonight - glue in the hinge points at least. A bit of work as I'll use the same method I used on my GP Ultimate (Elmers Ultimate glue, blue painters tape and vaseline). PITA - but never comes apart!

RE: Great planes ultimate 160
Problem solved!! As many (or all) of you suspected, it hinged around "how and where" I picked the plane up (and having another two pairs of eyes and hands last night didn't hurt either) What I did was to transfer the 6-3/8" mark to the top of the top wing, and extend it laterally out to the wingtips (all on that blue painters tape). My buddy and I then picked the plane up by the bottom of the top wing at those marks - voila!, we're real nose heavy. Removed the lead, back to neutral/slightly down CG. I'll maiden it this way, then probably move the RX battery back to the plate I put in the fuse when I decide to shift the CG aft. Whew!!!

Something else I noticed in my (one of many) re-reads of this thread - my cowl only has one side of the "cheeks" opened. Issue or not?

RE: Great planes ultimate 160
I'm just curious (and a bit worried) why I don't get even close results with the two methods. Once the plane is maidened, I'll feel a lot more comfortable - but I definately don't want to maiden the plane if it really is 18 oz tailheavy :(

RE: Great planes ultimate 160
Chad hit the nail on the head. CG is CG, it's a point (or a range) irrespective of weight, engine type, etc. It shouldn't make a difference whether I use the "handle method" or the "traditional" method - both should (and do, based on rereading this thread) arrive at the same conclusion. The handle method is just a lot more convienient :) I'll see what putting it on a CG machine tells me, plus I'll have a second set of eyes tonight to look at it.
