RE: DAVE PATRICK ULTIMATE 120
The DP Ultimate is a scaled up version of the Goldberg 10-300 ARF. The Goldberg version was 54" span, whereas the DP Ultimate was 60.5" span. The larger size made it legal to use in IMAC competition.I believe they were both designed by Dave Patrick. I don't know about the Great Planes version of the Ultimate. Greg

I'm just following up....I received another request for the DP Ultimate manual. I almost forgot about this thread, and figured I would upload a few pictures of mine and another club members DP Ultimate. Mine is in the foreground, and has a YS 140L for power, and the other plane has an OS 160 for power. Greg

Plane editing in Real Flight
How do you go about editing dual rates, total travel of control surfaces, center of gravity, expo, etc? I have owned Real Flight for a few years, and only use it a couple of times a year due to not being able to edit the planes. I have read through the instructions, and they are poor at BEST. I don't get it. Greg

RE: DuBro Vibration Mount
I got out last weekend, and did my maiden flight on my DP ultimate. The DuBro vibration mount worked well throughout 3/4 gallon of fuel. Here is a picture of my DP Ultimate (front) and another one built by another club member. Both of these planes had their maiden flights last week. Not bad for a plane that has been out of production for several years. Greg
ORIGINAL: SitNFly Too late now, but is a cowl ring available for this mount? This would keep your gyrations within reason.
I was thinking of going with the mount with a built in nose ring, but the casting with the regulator screw interferes with this mount. It looked like a pain in the azz to construct one, so I went with the mount that doesn't require a nose ring. The ultimate cowl doesn't have a lot of room under the engine. Greg

RE: DuBro Vibration Mount
I just got done installing my mount, and I lubricated the rubber parts before installation. I figured it certainly can't hurt. I used the YS after run oil. I am installing a YS 140L on the DuBro mount, in a Dave Patrick Ultimate. I had purchased a Hyde mount initially for this set up, but the motor flopped around too much to make it useable with a cowl on the plane. I would have to remove a lot of cowl to give the motor clearance to move. I ran two tanks of fuel through the YS 140L on a hard mount on my test stand, and nothing loosened up. I mounted the engine on the Hyde mount, and within 1/2 tank the exhaust header was loose, and it also caused the engine to run slightly lean when the engine movement was at its maximum. At low speed it was only moving about 1/16", but at 3/4 throttle it was moving about 3/4" total. FOR SALE...One Hyde Mount HCMCMIII Type C MKIII Firm Idle Greg

RE: DuBro Vibration Mount
The instructions are scant at best, and were found printed on the back of the package. Notice the orientation of the elastometric parts. Instead of being at 0, 90, 180, 270 degrees, they are at 45, 135, 220, 310 degrees in the illustration. I wonder if this makes any difference? I think I am going to lubricate mine with YS after run oil. This is safe on rubber. Greg

RE: Turbine Waiver
I guess I don't see why the pilot needs to submit an affidavit stating that the he/she has flown aircraft capable of 150 mph for 50 flights. Under this ruling I could be flying a model capable of 150 mph, but only fly it at 90 mph. It doesn't actually say that you need to fly 150 mph. The model that I intend to put the pulse jet in, will never get close to 150 mph. Just because a jet engine is in a model, doesn't mean it has to be a high speed model. I have flown hundreds of flights in excess of 100 mph, but don't even own a model capable of 150 mph. So according to AMA I am not competent to fly a plane with a pulse jet engine at 100 mph? Ridiculous[:'(] Greg

RE: Best charger for A123 LiFe packs
I would recommend the Cellpro Multi4, or the Cellpro 4S Gold. I have an old 4S and the Multi4, and both work well for the LIFE chemistry. This charger also charges LiPoly, LiIon, LiFePO4, A123, LiMn, NiCd, NiMH, Pb. Be aware that there is a difference between the A123 and the generic LIFE packs. I have been using A123 for over 5 years now without a problem. I would never go back to NiCd, or NiMH to power my planes. Greg

RE: gorilla glue vs. epoxy
ORIGINAL: Gray Beard Relax, some products are just beyond the use of some people?? In this case I think perhaps the Gorilla glue may have out thought the user? Things like that have been know to happen.[;)]
Typical fan boy response. Are you a fan boy Gray Beard? I have had good success with Gorilla Glue. I never said once that I had problems using the product, just that it wasn't worth the trouble to use the awful stuff. I've used it to glue parts of two MoJo 60 planes, and to laminate. I have found that cyanoacrylates, alphetic resins, and epoxy are all generally stronger than needed for model building. My reply to the OP was intended to point out that all of the glues we use are strong enough for his use, and that polyurethane glue will work as well, but why bother? It is a pain in the azz to use. I guess I don't care for your condescending remarks about my perceived inability to use glue properly. It is not flattering to you, and shows your ignorance. Belittling people only shows your ignorance, and not the person you felt compelled to put down. When it gets down to it, I don't give a damn what you use for glue, but you have to realize that other people may not always share your opinion of a products worth. Just saying[:D] Greg
ORIGINAL: Gray Beard Gorilla glue has a lot of uses or I wouldn't bother stocking it in my shop, I'm way too cheap for that. I just glued in a hard point, a piece of dowel in a balsa rudder with the GG. It expands and will fill in any slop between the parts.
There are no uses for Gorilla Glue that you listed, that couldn't be done better, faster, as strong if not stronger, and with less hastle....using alphetic, cyanoacrylate, or epoxy glue. I can't even think of a use in modeling where Polyurethane type of glue is specific to. Greg
ORIGINAL: combatpigg So, unless it is strictly forbidden, you think that hovering over the runway with other flyers concentrating on their own planes is safe..? Yes Except for landings, takeoffs and announced touch and goes [with other pilot's present at the pilots stations] none of the fields I fly at condone prolonged flight right over the runway unless they are having a fun fly event. The bulk of the flying should be down range of the runway. Kind of eliminates most of the challenging 3D manuvers....doesn't it? Anyone who thinks that hovering right over the runway with other pilots busy flying their own planes is a clueless moron. If you are amongst like minded flyers who are all onboard with ''group hovers'' over the runway, then of course have at it. Just don't mindlessly, or foolishly expose other flyers to that sort of risk and expect them to be happy with it. I must say that classifying all 3D pilots as morons, certainly isn't very flattering, but it is still above the imbecile or idiot class you put yourself in with your narrow mindedness. Have a good one, Greg
RE: 3Ders are so dangerous! Brotherhood of Circle Flyers
The general idea is that InboundLZ is a self centered azz. Unless hovering over the runway is specifically forbidden at his flying field, he is totally in the wrong, and to believe that the 3D flyer has the audacity to make a mess on the runway just as he was ready to land, proves he is a self centered azz. Seeing as flying between the runway and flight stations is forbidden, flying over the runway is the perfect distance. Not difficult to understand at all for most of us. Greg
