Skully, under General Provisions of the 1963 rule book, page 19, section 5, subsection (e) “ unofficial flight should any part drop off the model during a competition the flight shall be classified as unofficial. In the 2002 rule book the language is now on page 12, section 7, subsection (d). However this language is under the free flight section and not the general provisions. In the on-line version of the rules I cannot find this language anywhere. I apologize for causing confusion about rules that may no longer be applicable and for any inconvenience I may have caused. RE: Club 40 Pylon Race at WAAM in Tuscaloosa Aug 4th, 2012
Greg knock off the BS about spending two years to find this magic prop. Club 40 has a simple set of rules which apparently you thumb your nose at. You may have read the Club 40 rules but you do not understand their intent; that is to level the playing field. If you do not allow the event officials of other competitors to verify that you are following the rules by using a legal prop, how can we be sure that you are following the rules? Your word is not good enough. For all anyone knows you are using a one of a kind carbon fiber prop that only you have. Your attitude has no place in Club 40. I’m sure that that attitude has a place in Q-40. Yes I’m Pi$$ed off, and so should be everyone else who have followed the rules and have been open about it.! Bob

John, that’s close enough for the Chinese QC. That makes it a .389940****, or about a 40. Using the numbers shown in their booklet, the displacement would be .397916****. In any case these numbers are acceptable and a long way from .456 cu.in displacement of the TT-46. Bob

RE: Displacement check for the TT Pro 40
Tbatt, thanks for the post on “how to. But I’m afraid some may not do this simple step before the race. To help in the preflight inspection it may be a good idea to ask the pilot if they checked the displacement of the engine. If the answer is yes, well and good, but if NO, then the pilot must be advised that if final inspection shows the engine to be illegal he will be disqualified. With all the hype on this problem, I cannot believe that those involved in Club 40 are not aware of it; but there are those 10%. Just my thoughts on the issue. Bob

RE: TT 40 Pro may be discontinued!!!
here is a copy of my response to Mr. Lin and Fassbinder "Dear Mr. Lin, Gary has forwarded your e-mail to as many Club 40 racers as he could. First I would like to thank you for being concerned with your customers that use your TT PRO 40 engine. This is a very good engine for sport racing because it complies with our long history of using 40 size engines here in the United States. The TT PRO 40 is used not only in Club 40 but also in the 424 class which is an AMA event. Here in central Texas there is about 40 of us that race club 40, and most of us have several engines, I have 4. I hope everyone worldwide that uses your TT PRO 40 will e-mail you so you can get a better idea of how many engines are in use and how large the market is for your 40 engine. I understand that you must make a profit on the products you sell and I hope the market base for the TT PRO 40 is large enough for you to continue producing this engine. Thank you for your consideration," Bob Petrinec

Greg, I have a 46 that I purchased last year from Tower. It has the CHAMFER at the top of the piston. Another easy way to tell the 46 from the 40 is the gap between the head and the top of the case is much larger on the 46. I hope the 46’s you and Fred looked at were not used in the race? Bob

Go get one and race, and if you win we will start buying the engine you used to beat us. It’s not that easy to find another sport 40 engine that will keep up with a TT. RE: Are the new Thunder Tiger 40s actually 46s?
Barry this is not a rules issue and I don’t think the rules committee needs to spend time dealing with it. This is a “verification of an existing rule which needs to be handled by the CD of an event. We will have a race in Hico Texas this Saturday and the CD, Gary Fisher, will have all engines in the A-MAIN inspected by removing the Head. I will provide the Dial Caliper and Depth Gauge. And we will be using the dimensions that are published in the TT PRO booklet. If anyone wishes to have their engine looked at before the race I will do that for them. As for running the two engines in the same race I think we need some volunteers to do some racing with the 40 and 46 in the same heat. According to the numbers published in the TT booklet, the 46 has 17% more horsepower than the 40. IMHO this is significant and I don’t think the 40’s can keep up with the 46’s. But we need to test this before we jump into a boiling kettle on fish. Bob

Barry the booklet that comes with the PRO Series engine has all the dimensions on page 3 for each PRO Series engine, from their .25 up to the 1.20. My three engines measure to within .001 inch of the dimensions given for the 40. We should use the dimensions given in this booklet. Bob
