RE: Question about saito mufflers
Thanks for the info guys and gals, just wanted to make sure in case Saito had changed something. Dang engines are expencive enough with out having to factor in stupidity on the owners behalf in breaking things LOL. Daveopam, yes, I tried the different headers/muffler combo's, the one that fits the best is the old header/muffler combo. It's a 40sized greatplanes Extra 300S kit, so I really don't want to have a muffler hanging out to get smacked if I have a fast landing resulting in a noseover. Sorry to say Dave, been in Rc for bout 20 years, same with 4strokes, but i do thank you for the tips. Sometimes you can never have enough tips.

RE: Question about saito mufflers
No, the threads are the same, they fit well so that is not the problem. What I am worried about is back pressure. The new "cast" muffler looks like it has more volume and some sort of internal baffling system, and I am not sure if the older style muffler would cause any problems. It's a brand new 82, I don't want to blow it up because of my stupidity. LOL. The reason I am wanting to go with the olderstyle, is that it fits better inside the cowl of my extra, compared to hanging out and looking stupid with the new one.

RE: ASP engines with free shipping
ASP and Magnum engines are the same. Asp engines are sold mostly in Europe and Asia, where magnum is mostly sold overseas in North America. Both are made from factory second parts from OS Engines that are sold out the back door. These parts are not up to Os's high standards so they are sold as factory seconds. Now I am not bashing either motor, I have a asp 61FS and it's an amazing motor, however like most things in life, you get what you pay for. They will not have the same durability of OS or saito. However, if you take good care of them, they will last a long time and give you years of use.

RE: Watcha Buildin'?
Like Mich weather, ours is turning wonkie as well. You grab a couple hours of flying here and there at this time of year. Unless you want to go flying indoors, and to me, flying vapours and other such...boring slow flying things does not toot my horn. So it's building time. For me it's finish off the Platt spitfire that I have been working on all year, its glassin and painting time. After that it's the refurbish of my goldberg Ultimate bipe. After that since I have to wait till xmas to open it, I have a Great planes 40 sized extra 300S kit to build. If I get really bored I may roll out the plans and start scratch building the CL-215 I have been meaning to start for 10+ years.

RE: Real Flight or Pheonix
I have used Real Flight for both Heli and airplanes. After multiple hours of use, I always had the same feeling that it wasn't exactly how the plane/heli would fly for real. Heck, never used a heli, jumped on and in less then 3 mins I was hovering one. Now for Phoenix. When I use it, I get a feeling that this is exactly how the real plane would handle and feel. I have a couple of them that is in the sim and belive me, it's damm close. AS for heli's, I find it much more of a challenge to hover and fly. To me, I belive without a doubt that Phoenix is far better. Plus free downloads and you can evern submit your planes and fields to be added. Realflight, you have to keep throwing out more and more money for upgrades. and the added bonus to Phoenix, you can get the version that comes with a Spektrum DX5 2.4 transmitter that you can use on real planes.

RE: The dreaded step!
I guess I am one of the rare breed, I enjoy building planes. I find it a great way to get rid of stress. However out of building I would have to guess that sanding/carving has to be what I hate the worst. I still have nightmares of sanding the Ultrasport fuse...ugh..and now I am building a Dave Platt spitfire, *old 60size kit* and I have to do all this sanding..*whine whine snivel sniff*.. LOL. Other then sanding..I would have to agree with others, that bending and sodering piano wire. Specially on a Sig Mini smith.. *screw this clamp in place and break out the mig welder.... *

RE: Carl Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 Brotherhood.
Well, thanks to the responces I got from here, I have bit the bullet and decided to ready my Ultimate for flying. I have decided to tear off the covering, *never did like the stock blue/yellow scheme* and check out the glue joints and building of this plane. Are there any " upgrades" or things I should beef up ? I am going to replace the weak wire landing gear with a stronger durel set and I might consider the top wing attachment change. I have decided to go with the super tiger 90 2stroke since I am getting a smoking deal on it. Stay tuned for updates Carl

RE: Carl Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 Brotherhood.
Hi Alfred, Thank you for the quick responce to my questions. To answer your first question, I have been flying for aprox. 15-20 yrs, with a few years in there where i didnt fly. I have flown everything from trainers, beavers, ultrasports, war planes and you name it. Even a smith miniplane. Right now I am currently cutting holes in the sky with a revolver. Now I know that the 90 isn't going to give me unlimited vertical or the most amazing power for 3d ... but I am hoping it will be enough power to fly around, do some things, but not get too too crazy with it.....yet I mostly want to know if this plane settles down for landings, or is a hotdog till the ground. You hear two sides of that coin depending on who you talk to.. LOL. Still can't beive I have never seen one of these planes fly... meh..guess that's what happens when your a pitts special fans.... Thank you again, Carl

RE: Carl Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 Brotherhood.
Hello folks, swore I posted a message here a while back, but I can't find it so I will post again. I recently got my hands on a built Goldberg Ult bipe kit, The plane is in great shape, I belive only flown a couple of times due to the motor not performing to the owner's liking. my questions are, 1. What the heck do these planes fly like? I can honestly say I have never seen one of these fly before.... * I know I know.. someone shoot me* 2. Would a Supertiger 90 2stroke fly this well? or should I drop a 120 fourstroke or 20cc gasser in it? 3. If you went with a gasser, do you need to reenforce the firewall? 4. and lastly... what the heck is with that wierd top wing mounting gizzmo...wow. Thanks for all the info in advance folks, you guys have some amazing planes, really makes me want to fly this thing instead of trading for something else. Cheers, Carl

RE: Goldberg Ultimate Build 60 size by twn
Hello folks, have a couple of questions for you all about this plane. I have one completed that was given to me from a friends esate sale, to my knowledge it's been flown once or twice, but with a smaller motor so they were not happy with the flight performace. Personally, I have never seen one of these birds fly.... so I am curious. I have noticed that everyone seems to go with extra power, now is this for 3d or do you need the extra ponies to fly this bird? How does this bird fly? How are landings? Are they fast and tricky? My biggest question is about the upper wing attachments. does this "wire" accually hold the wing? or is this a weak point in the airframe that is just waiting to fail and send my plane to the ground like a powered lawn dart?

RE: Help me... lost my Seamaster
ORIGINAL: FlyCrashRebuild
ORIGINAL: goirish at least you got to retrieve yours. Mine is at Davey Jones Locker. Brand new 70 4 stroke on it.
Is the water shallow enough to send a scuba diver in to look for it? That would be an intersting recovery attempt if you know anyone who dives.
Even if the water was say less then 100 feet deep, if there is any current at all, even a small amount, the plane could be anywhere in the lake. Air pockets trapped in the plane/motor etc will keep it slightly bouyant and allow the currents to take it along for a ride on the bottom of the lake. I have gone under looking for full size boats, motors and snowmobiles and you would be amazed on just how far away from where it went in it can be. If you know someone that does dive, I would suggest if they can, go take a look for it. You may get lucky.

Well, in a freaky twist of fate, I have ended up with my old US 40. Pretty much in the same shape I sold it in...cept for being in a nasty crash. Instead of fixing the nose/engine area, they chopped off the fuse at the firewall. Well, this will never do. So, I am in need of someone to photocopy the plans of the nose area so I can rebuild this lil beauty so she can fly in the sky again. If anyone could help, I would be indebt. Thank you Carl

Sorry to hear about your spit going down. I am also glad you got it back in one shape again. Um, I am fron Canada, and we fly in the winter all the time here. Two lil tricks to help you. 1. If possible, keep the plane inside a warm vehicle at all times. Keep the motor warm.2 If you can not do this, use a spray of Wd 40 down the carb to add getting the motor started when its cold. Kinda hard with a Fourstroke, but it can be done.

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***
I would like to join the brotherhood. I had a Us 40 a few years ago. It was the best flying plane in my hanger and I logged a few hundred flights on it before i tore off the covering and "bashed" it a tad. I took out the slimeing ST 40, and extended the nose a bit so I could shoehorn a OS 70surpass FS. After rechecking all glue joints, and recovering the plane, I must have put another 100 or so flights on it before I sent it to a new home. To my belief, its still flying today, but not sure. I would love to get another, 40 or 60 or even a 1000, a beautiful flying plane in any size.
