RE: How Do You Cut Out Plastic Parts?
These are all good ideas. I've had good success using both scissors and the score with an x-acto and break off method. One tool that has been very useful for me and also works cutting through fiberglass is a hot knife. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXSD16&P=ML For long edges you can tape a metal ruler to your canopy and cut along the side; when heated up mine cuts through plastic and fiberglass like it was soft butter.

RE: TysPlanes Cockpit builds
Ty is a real asset to the modelling community. I have several of his products and they are some of the best values in the hobby. What makes him superior to ALL the others are the videos he makes showing how to use his products and the fact he will spend all the time you need talking to you to make sure you understand what it takes to get the job done. Shortly after I bought his original CMP 109 spinner we ended up talking at length about engine sizes and other mods. He's a great guy to talk RC with. I recommend him to anyone considering buying his stuff. That said, and I freely admit Ty is a much better modeller than I, I do my panels with a different technique than he uses. I make a balsa backplate out of the flimsiest balsa I have laying around, line up a print out of instruments behind it and cover them with a thin clear acetate. I carefully cut out the instrument circles within the bevel and glue the instruments to the back of the panel after it gets painted. You can rough cut the hoels then lighlty scrape with an exacto knife at a 90 degree angle and get very good cuts to make a crisp clean hole. See post 67 at: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_5509593/mpage_3/key_/tm.htm A picture of my completed panel is on post 70. I have Ty's cockpit, spinner, and canopy for the 109 but haven't started it yet. I think I'll also get his 1/6 scale guns to put on the nose and I should be ready. Great job on your cockpit; you've given me a few ideas for when I build mine. Tim

RE: Stripping paint off from a fuse. Please HELP!
I've been down that same road (paint stripping a CMP P-51) and concluded the glass was too thin on this plane for using any paint remover. I tried different commercial products and the citristrip on the tailwheel gear doors and other parts I had cut off to make hatches...they all weakened the glass. I went with both wet and dry sanding. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_6475028/anchors_6491140/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#6491140

RE: Need Fedback on Nose Art.
I posted these links on a jet thread, but these stand to illustrate racy nose art extended into the jet era as well. I've even seen mostly naked muscle guys painted on F-15E's now that there are a lot of female aircrews. Like it or not, its part of the warbird genre. These schemes are so good (look at the refueling port) I think I'll have to build an F-105 some day. RE: New Elapor foam Cessna 185 **NOW WITH PICTURES**
Those aren't taildraggers like a 185. 180s and 185s are different animals than the tricycle gear planes in a lot of ways. I spent several years flying around in 185s in Alaska and have been on the lookout for a good-scale, 185 model. These ones from MTH look far, far better than many of the other 185s available. Even the KMP/ESM fell short. For what the kit costs, they got many of the details completely wrong.

RE: Century Jet F-105 build
Outside my dorm in college we had an old Frankenstein Thud named "Iron Butterfly." I always thought it was a cool plane. One thing I like about prop fighters over jets are the better nose art the WWI & WWII guys got away with. A good thing about the Thud are they had some that got away with the neat nose art too. Examples (NC-17 rated around the air refueling port; beware): Memphis Belle II and Pussy Galore II: http://www.martinsammodels.com/webpage/pages/Models/Reviews/Reveiws/Cutting%20Edge/F-105/D/D.htm http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/Rev1/301-400/Rev381_Cutting-Edge_CED32046/rev381.htm Pussy Galore I: http://www.martinsammodels.com/webpage/pages/Models/Reviews/Reveiws/Cutting%20Edge/F-105/D/D.htm Cherry Girl and Jinkin Josie: http://www.martinsammodels.com/webpage/pages/Models/Reviews/Reveiws/Cutting%20Edge/F-105/D/D.htm

RE: New Elapor foam Cessna 185 **NOW WITH PICTURES**
I've seen it for sale at a New Zealand site for 99 New Zealand dollars, which is roughly 75 US dollars, which means it would probably sell here for $120-$150??????? I bet if these were for sale in the States for $75 they'd sell a ton of them. I'd buy at least two. All these sites are offshore.....I'd rather buy from a US distributor though. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Toys-models/Radio-control/Planes/auction-321319454.htm http://www.championhobby.com/info.php?id=1608&name=%20%20%20Cessna-185%20EPO http://www.jethobby.com.sg/cgi-bin/ezsite/prod/manager.cgi?action=show&pid=2458&cid=34&idx=1&gid=1

I think I'll try a test piece using the scotch brite then alcohol cleaning method w/o primer and see how it holds up. If it seems too easy to rub off, then I'll use zinc chromate green or yellow primer. Thanks for the input. Tim

I ran a thread on this subject a while back. In my opinion its a good thing to keep this discussion alive. Bottom line I'd say is to test any new technique before applying it to a new project ready to be finished. It sucks to ruin a fuselage or wing and have to start over. RE: Need 'German' Ground Target for my Vortac Bomb Dropping 1/8 P-47
There are actually quite a few 1/6 scale tanks out there for sale for GI Joe collectors, but they tend to be expensive collecter pieces. One exception is the T-34 or basic tanks at the following site: http://www.gijoeinformation.com/gallery/SupplyDepot Its too bad really that the Sherman is no longer available. I'd like to have one. The good thing about the tanks at that site is they look pretty robust and can take abuse, unlike the other ones available out there. Another option is to keep an eye on ebay or craigslist for an Ultimate Soldier/21st Century Toys M4 Stuart. I picked one for only $40 off Craigslist once. Tim

I had two of those planes a decade ago and got the fiber specialties cowl back when the company was Stan's Fiber Specialties and they were awesome. I had to cut the front out (easy with a dremel or regular drill) and buy two cans of cheap rattle-can paint from wally-world and it was ready to go. They crashed good too....
