RE: Stripped allen bolt
my HSS bit doesnt even scratch it.
HSS are garbage for any but wood. A good cobalt or carbide bit would work, carbide is more brittle if trying to drill by hand.

I think MEK would melt what ever tank part you put it on. At work we use MEK for cleaning up tools when using epoxy based floor coatings.

RE: M1 Abrams in a battle with congress
ORIGINAL: skipper_gr In 1995 or there abouts, the contract for the turbine engine was not renewed, and the entire engine facility was closed. From then till now engines have been being rebuilt. By now, the power reduction due to increased tolerances must be incredable. To comtinue, a new powerplant would be essential. So, practially, I guess it is time to design a new main battle tank based on present and future requirments. Say a prayer for the old workhorse! Skipper
Honeywell has the current engine contract also provides a so called "warranty" that encompassed most engine failure as long as you use mobile 1 turboshaft.

RE: M1 Abrams in a battle with congress
Ok the tanks pictured in the article was my Company, C Co 2/37Ar Bn 1AD in Najaf back in 2004. The lead tank was our commander Cpt Moore (now LTC). I agree with THE BREED for the majority that the current versions of the M1 are so different from the original XM1 they only look similar. One major point of the powerpack is its far quieter than a turbo diesel hence the nickname "silent death".
ORIGINAL: Baron Fel I got my M-3 well over 41mph. lol! Baron
Yeah that's the governed speed. Same goes for M1's governed speed 45mph, I've had plenty of M1's over that and even a M1 Panther close to 70MPH!!! Just don't make any sharp turns [:D]

RE: A new Heng Long T-99 Tank?
ORIGINAL: no12skyline I'd rather Heng Long stop making the M41 and Pantiger, so they can have some space on their production line for modern armor. Heck, I'd even settle for a T72.
+1 on the T72 or anything modern! I agree its a new tank so thats cool enuff for me. Im still holding out for any Abrams version or M88 that is reasonably correct.

RE: Testing prototype sound card
Startup, shutdown, and 50cal are good. I think only be cause I have been around M1's for so long the drive sound isn't right to me, that drive sound is with the engine out of the tank and goin thru the gears. Overall very good work

RE: 1/16 M1A1 Abrams new motors and new pics!
Yep unless your behind the M1 you don't really hear the engine while its moving and gun and turret movement doesn't make too much noise until the turret brake engages.

RE: 1/16 M1A1 Abrams new motors and new pics!
Hey about the sound. How big can the sound files be? I ask because I can record live M1(mostly new M1A2 SEP V2) sounds possibly start up, idle, gear shifts, turret traverse sound. Might have to wait for the next live fire to get cannon fire.

RE: 1/16 M1A1 Abrams new motors and new pics!
You are very close with the color and pattern. The pattern is the same black, brown, green on all. Here is a very good pic of the camo pattern on the skirts of a M1A1. I think the hull is what needs some work it looks shiny and toy like.

There was a 4 color camo used by the US from 1975 - mid 80's. The manual that covered paint and patterns was TC 5-200 [link]http://www.olive-drab.com/od_mvg_camo_patterns.php[/link]

RE: 1/16 M1A1 Abrams new motors and new pics!
Just my opinion but since it is a A1 and not an A2 I would go with NATO pattern as most A1's are not painted tan. Or the other way there are very very few NATO color A2's.

RE: (Soliciting ) for people to join a new RC website??
ORIGINAL: strmnd54  Now I'm not the type of person to pick on another individual on a public forum like this one ; but there's something that has bug me for a while about the way Sgt Pearce presented himself in here...   First , here's a definition of '' sergeant '' in the canadian forces ; according to Wikipedia :   Sergeant (Sgt) (French: sergent or sgt) is an Army or Air Force non-commissioned officer (NCO) rank of the Canadian Forces. Its Naval equivalent is Petty Officer 2nd Class (PO2) (French: maître de 2e classe or m2). It is senior to the appointment of Master Corporal (MCpl) and its equivalent naval appointment, Master Seaman (MS), and junior to Warrant Officer (WO) and its naval equivalent, Petty Officer 1st Class (PO1). Sgts and PO2s together make up the cadre of senior non-commissioned officers (Sr NCOs).   I'm raising the issue because my oldest son , now 31 years old ; has been a '' land weapons technician '' for the canadian forces for more than 10 years ...   My son is now stationed in Edmonton with the rank of '' Master Corporal '' and is due to be promoted '' Sergeant '' this spring if , ( like he says himself ) he doesn''t screw up big time meanwhile ...   Furthermore , my son's wages are such that he doesn't need to beg for parts to sustain his hobbies ....   So you guys can draw your own conclusions about SgtPearce ....
From what I remember (his very 1st few post)he was kid in something equivalent to our ROTC. But I agree he make us real soldiers and retired soldiers look bad.

RE: Battling Helicoptors
Its DSM2 which is backwards compatible, It will work with DSM and DSM2 but not DSMX. Unless it is the newer DX5 with DSMX module then it will work with all DSM air RX's

RE: Battling Helicoptors
ORIGINAL: HondoBob
ORIGINAL: YHR I have a Spektrum DX 6 and it works fine. I was just wondering if the battling helicoptor radio from spektum would work with my DSM 2 receivers. Like you mentioned with fire buttons, this might be good for tanks
I have been looking for a receiver to put in a project I'm working on and learned that my Spektrum 6 will only work with DSM1 receivers.  It's not a problem since there is still a fair supply of these units around (thanks Phil!), but I think the Spektrum 6i was the first from that company to support both DSM1 and DSM2.  Newer controllers/transmitters should have no problem communicating with both specs.  I'm sure someone around here can provide more info about the specs and legacy compatibility.
The Dx7 was the first DSM2 TX released from Spektrum, now the DX8 is compatible with DSX , DSM2, and DSM1
