RE: GUANLI MODEL...WARBIRDS
The GuanLi models seem to be a bit more user friendly with the brushless power systems some vendors are adding to them.

Im looking for a stock E Firestorm motor. New preferably but with little use is OK too. I need it till I can get an ESC that can handle my mod motor. Thanks guys.

RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
Has anyone tried running a modified motor with the stock ESC? I had my first race yesterday with my new Orion SV2 special edition and the motor got to 297 degrees F. on me in about 4 minutes. I had a brush stick once and that caused the motor to heat up but that wasnt the case yesterday. Aside from the blistering temps and me letting the factory installed smoke out, it appears fine. Things never run the same once you let the smoke out......

I was running the tazer and a 5000 mah battery and mine started melting too, not in my Firestorm, but thats irrelevant. I ended up having to switch over to the deans ultra plugs and havent had a problem since. I use them for the battery and the motor to ESC connections.

Oh I totally agree. I tear my truck down when it is working just fine. I have had my Firestorm apart more times than I have ran it. I find little problems and fix them before they can cause me any unscheduled down time.

Did the motor shift forward and cram the pinion gear into the spur gear? Thats what it sounds like to me.

RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
I just turned mine around and I noticed the little nipple you are talking about. The worst that would happen is the tip of the nipple would rear off and cause a little slop in the rear arm that can easily be fixed with a small spacer. Im going to run it like this and see what it feels like. The arms and tires now sit in the center of the wells on the stock body now too so it looks nicer as well as longer. Thank you dafpnp! I had never heard about this mod but Im glad you told me about it. PROPS!

The 2 problems I see with that is it will change viscosity with the temperature and the water will more than likely rust the shock shaft.

RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
Well I called back and talked to 2 different people that told me the same thing. The diff is "sealed" as in "it has seals in it" but the amount of maintenance depends on the viscosity of the grease used. So if lighter grease like 1K or 2K is used, than you can expect to do maintenance after every pack or two by refilling the diff. The thicker the fluid the less you have to do. So I decided I wasn't going to accept having to take my transmission apart every 2 packs to fill the diff back up. my first attempt will be a set of O rings fron the hardware store that fit the outdrive nice and snug. But they had a little too much room on the outside edge so I packed some gasket maker into the bottom of the lip and put the O ring in. Than smooth the top of the gasket maker off with my finger and now it will set up till tomorrow. I will not be running it till Sunday but I will reply back with my findings after I run it a little. I will still be trying 2K fluid and see if this helps my situation. here is a pic of the new seal.......

RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
I just got off the phone with HPI and they told me the reason my diff was leaking out the silicone grease was because it is not meant to be a sealed diff. Your just supposed to put some heavy bearing grease in there. I did it this morning with a mix of lithium grease and powdered graphite and I will see what it drives like at the races on Sunday.

6 screws and the transmission is in your hand. Thats pretty cool. let me know what you find when you open up your diff. Thanks for the reply.

Unless you loosen the slipper. You can use it as a traction control almost. But its still best to just learn some throttle control. LOL

RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
The main problem I heard about with the E Firestorm was supposed to be the ESC but I couldn't find any specifics. My truck arrived in the box, with the ESC in 3 pieces floating around. I assumed that was the problem everyone was talking about as I wasn't able to get mine to stay together. I ended up gluing it with tire glue and plan to replace it soon with something that will run a brushless motor eventually.

RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
If you have replaced the receiver than you need to set the ESC back up or you will have no brakes at all. I found this out the hard way and there is no instructions on setting it up either.

RE: Which r/c should i look into
ORIGINAL: BigTb17 Unfortunately you sometimes have to make compromises when you are on a budget. I think you would be best off going with something like the E-Firestorm 10T (under $200) and having plenty left over for a good charger (It is worth getting a good charger in the long run) and a couple decent batteries. You could easily get away under $300. You won't have the fastest stuff available, but you will have very decent stuff and won't break the bank. You can always upgrade to brushless later when you save up more money. If you shoot for the VXL or similar right away you will either end up way over budget, or you will end up making huge compromises with your batteries and charger and will never get the most out of the truck anyway. Just my opinion.
Very well said. The E Firestorm won the poll anyway.

I have better tires and some Lunsford goodies. Stock ESC and a 15 turn motor and I was geared down from stock for better punch off the line. I would have to guess on speed, but no less than 30mph. I was up against some XXXTs an Evader, a couple T4s and a Rustler.

I would not say that its slow at all. I like the fact that HPI seems to use a superior plastic compared to other companies. I also like that it has more setup options for racing meaning there is more adjust ability to the camber, toe and ride hight.
