RE: RC Projects RC10 Extended Chassis & Body?
FYI: The RC10GT was never offered with a graphite chassis. That looks to be a chassis for what was called the RC10 Graphite or the Worlds car!!

RE: Racers v. Bashers (the vehicles not the drivers)
ORIGINAL: HerrSavage Your question is biased by the fact that racing is just the big fad at the moment, and bashing isn't as popular as it was 5-8 years ago. I have raced, and I have to say, I just don't like it. It all seems to me like racing is largely (not only, but largely..) a bunch of dorks with clenched sphincters wrenching endlessly - changing shock and diff oils, buying four kinds of tires, measuring this or that geometry down to the millimeter, whatever.. Racing is a public library, and for me anyway bashing is a Metallica concert. Racing is also a huge money pit. Sure, in some ways an X-ray XB9 or whatever is better than some RTR MT. But it costs twice as much. And it's got a totally different purppose. The MT after all will wheelie and flip off ramps better - and that's part of what bashing is. The X-ray will be better on the very limited confines of a track, which is what it is meant for. As I think everybody here knows, "better" is relative. For me, hands down the best RC I have ever had is my first Losi LST2. I bought it nearly six years ago, and broke it in over five years ago. Here is a video from last weekend: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kOPfSkcDcU It's not the most amazing bash video or anything. But the truck is 5+ years old and has been through a lot. I think most of the bearings(except the diffs) are original.. I still use the 40mhz radio on various RC's.. It's good quality. But that's not enough. I have - IMO - the right parts here and there on it to strengthen it, and - usually - not shown in the video - I'm not a complete bonehead when it comes to driving(I was pretty bad last weekend - at least when I was being filmed..) So some people will take a new LST2 and break it immediately. But they'd probably break a new Mugen too. So you can't separate the drivers from the cars. There are people out there who race truggies with Axial .28's - and do well.. And there are guys who blow up $400 Novarossis and Speeds or whatever because they don't know what they're doing.. People argue about which is tougher on RC's, racing or bashing. And no doubt, racing is tough on an RC. But even the high end race stuff wears out - they develop slop, you need to replace arms, and these or those bushings, some - like Mugen - will break arms a lot, some seem to eat servos(expensive servos), etc.. Buggies and truggies are probably a bit tougher than an MT because they are simpler. But what makes them good on a track also makes them boring in some field or parking lot too IMO.. OK OK if you have some great track just up the road, fine.. I'd probably be more into racing too. But no, I am not going to buy a camper van in order to really get into racing, and drive and camp all over the country chasing "points" or whatever.. Whatever the case, I have become pretty anti-racing. I've met some good guys at races over the years, and had fun here and there. But as an adult with other commitments and interests in life, I don't like that a race for ex. requires an entire weekend. You have to pay to race, you need a pit helper, you need four sets of tires, a backup engine, and many people will tell you a second kit for spare parts. So in the end you're spending two grand on a toy car(or two of them), which just in itself increases the seriousness of your participation in RC to a level I'm not comfortable with... I don't want to have to say, "Oh there's a race next month, let me mark it on my calendar, and come hell or high water that is what I'm going to do"... Then it rains... Or an old friend comes to town. Or whatever.. Racing is a fad - what you see now is a high tide of popularity, but it too will ebb. It's only part of RC. If it's your thing, fine. But it's not the only thing.
I will have to disagree with you about racing. Racing is about the competition and that is what does it for me. Runing a rc car around a field all willy nilly is, in my opinion, extreamly boring. To me there is no point. It's the working and adjusting on the car that does it for me, the constantly looking and working to make the car and the driver better than the next guy. You don't get that bashing, you get a bunch of geeks running around in a field trying to out do each other and see who can destroy their cars in the most spectacular manner. So if racing makes me a dork wrenching endlessly, then call me guilty. But as far as I am concerned, you can not get the same rush from bashing that you can racing. Besides, you have to remember that the majority of rc cars and trucks sold are NEVER raced, so saying what ones are better for this and that is pointless. Enjoy your rc the way you want, if it works for you, then more power to ya!!!!

RE: Novak VS Viper
I run Novak ESC's with a couple Viper motors and can't complain about either one. Haven't tried Viper ESC's so can't comment. I have a Novak GTB with a Viper 13.5 in a SC10 and it runs good!!!

RE: Novak ESC help
I run Viper motors and can't complain, don't have one of their esc's so I can't comment. You can't go wrong with anything from Novak. I run and have been running only Novak esc's for well over 20 years without a single problem. Both the Havok and GTB are good units. Customer service from Novak is the best in the business,in my opinion of corse.

RE: Worthy Hobby Shops?
Personaly, I use Stormer Racing Hobbies simply because Tower screwed me out of shipping charges on 3 diffrent orders that I never got. For some unknown reason, the shipping guys just couldn't get how to ship something to a PO Box. Never had a problem with Bob Stormer and his bunch, besides, I get stuff from them in 2 days as Tower it took at least a week when they did get an order to me.

RE: Air compressor
I would be lost without an air compressor. Got a 50 gallon 5hp for the shop at home and a small 1/2 gallon one for the track. Could imagine working on the big (full sized) cars without it. Makes life so much easier!!

RE: What % of your RC $ is spent at the LHS?
I am going to say that 0% simply because the closest actual hoby shop is 90 miles away and for that matter, the last time I was there they didn't have anything to do with what I like to race. I am a pan car oval guy, so it's the tracks I go to where I get most of my stuff.

RE: Glue ball diff rings?
The reason they state rubber cement is so that when you need to replace the diff rings, the glue will peel off the outdrives and be able to be used with the new rings. You can't do that with super glue and would either need to scrape the glue off, possibly damaging the outdrives or simply buying new outdrives with the new rings. We used the rubber cement trick years back in my pancar carpet oval days before someone came out with notched rings and matching hubs.

RE: Why is anything in RC controversial?
My personal opinion is that there are those who are insecure about their faverate brands. So to help overcome this, they are in your face to try to convince everyone that brand X is better than all others. Weather it's cars (full sized), rc stuff or even what brand of soad pop you drink. It all comes down to a "my way or it's wrong" attitude. I say, run what you like and I will run what I like. If yours turns out to be better, than more power to ya. No need for any crontroversy.

RE: A new/OLD Concrete Oval in KING North Carolina!
Had a chance to race there back in the 90's and it was a sweet track and a great place to race. When I saw the first round of pics before all the work, that place was a mess. Thanks to those who put in a ton of work and brought a great track back to life. Can't get down this year but plans for a vacation trip are in the works for next summer. I wish that Lake Whiporwill in Florida and Ameritrack in Matoon IL could be brought back also but they are just a memory as both have been torn down.

RE: Dirt oval Tire Question
It's going to depend on the track surface. A dry dusty or loose dirt track will work better with buggy tires where as a hard packed track will tend to like foams. The track I raced at was loose dirt and for my Dominator it liked soft bowties on all 4. That was a few years back and I ran a 10 turn brushed on NIMH batteries, so can't tell ya what brushless will like. The class is a lot of fun and I wished we still had a dirt oval. Good luck to ya!!!

RE: Hex drive wheels
Standars drive wheels use a pin in the rear axle to enguage the wheel. The new "hex drives" uses a 12mm hex over the pin and the wheel has a hex molded in to it to enguage the axle. Any wheel with the hex molded in should work. I run Slash bead locks on my SC10. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXXUM5&P=SM

RE: Who thinks this is unfair....
When other racers can't beat a certin driver they will almost always look for excuses. They feel there is no way it could their set up, or driving ability. Run the buggy untill they say you can't.

RE: Low Voltage Cutoff
Depending on the esc, some will just stop working and some will just cut the voltage to the motor. I run Novak esc's and they slow the car down when you get close to the cut off and will stop completely when you hit it. Never used low voltage buzzers so can't help you on that one.

RE: Simple LiPo Question
I store my lipos at 3.7 volts per cell. I use a Competition Electronics Turbo 35 BL and just need to set the max charge voltage to 7.4 for 2s and hit start or the cutoff voltage and discharge down to the desired level. Shuts off at the preset voltage.

RE: Brushed motors
Don't know about your esc but, in my opinion, Venom brushed motors are junk. I have tried the 12, 13, and 15 turn versions and could not get them to perform up to the other brands I have. I also have run Reedy and Trinity and found them to run a whole lot better. Again, that is my opinion. Give them a shot being as they don't cost much.

Man, I do love reading threads like this. It's so stupid and humorous to see people argue over each others OPINION!!! I like the scale looks of this and I have been a big John Force fan for a long time. The price is more than I am willing to spend. (Especialy for Traxxas) So I say, if you like it, head out to your local hobby shop and get your hands on one, if you don't, then you don't have to buy one. Why come on a forum and whine about it! That is my OPINION and it doesn't matter if you agree!!!
