RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
I dont think 46u has been stand-offish. Maybe he is tainted by his Alloy experience. I really need some help with the truck though. Without opinions on paint, purple or plastic vs Aluminum. Like I said I have the two speed in my 18ss, when I sat it down today to run it finally, it barealy rolled forward at full throttle. There is a chattering going on somewhere in the drive train. After I rolled it about 5ft I picked it up to make a needle adjustment and set it back down. Now it wont move at all. The wheels are on loosely, the clutch bell is spinning the spur gear, So I dont know where to begin to look. I know most people have the single speed in their truck and they talk about the slipper. Can anyone help me as to where I should begin to look? thanks A

RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
All the alloy is new era. The weight doesnt bother me, the money doesnt bother me. I really just want it reliable. Ill be putting a motor in it soon. Probably the OS 18 TZ. Ill use the HPI 18 as my spare for the Nitro RS4 3 on road I bought at the same time(havent built it yet) I swear I read so many posts about parts breaking, thats why I went with the alloy. The bling bling wasnt the reason. Heres some pics from 10 minutes ago. None of the camber/caster etc adjustments have been done. I ran 6 tanks at idle and 4 at 1/4 throttle for break-in. Thats all Ive done so far.

RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
hey guys, I finally got my truck together. I have a few issues though: .1 The top allen screw for the New Era front hubs and knuckles doesnt clear the New Era Aluminum turnbuckles and rod ends kit. It wont allow any movement of the rod end. Has anyone else run into this? .2 The rear New Era turnbuckles are binding on the shock during cycle. So I mounted the turnbuckles on the back. Is this a problem? .3 During break-in, I have noticed the front wheels are receiving WAY more power than the rears. At half throttle the front is going great and the rear is barely turning ( I have the 2-Speed kit on this) What could be causing this? The truck is the MT2 18SS. .4 I have the stock shock setup on the truck, and a lot of extra weight. The rear sags when its at static height. I would like to put stiffer springs in. What springs would be best? I dont race, just bash And Id like to be able to fly it when I learn how to drive it better. I would to use some springs from my LHS, is there a cross for the more popular applications? I dont have a dealer for HPI in the entire state!!!! thanks for any and all help so far! Here is a link to the pics I have so far: [link=http://owlie.omgwtfpwnage.com/mt2]MT2 18SS[/link] Here are some pics of my rear turnbuckles and my front hub setup for reference [image]http://owlie.omgwtfpwnage.com/mt2/DSCN0796.JPG[/image] [image]http://owlie.omgwtfpwnage.com/mt2/DSCN0795.JPG[/image]

RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
thanks for the help up to now everyone. I ordered some aluminum turnbuckles with rod ends today ( I remember what I didnt like about RC cars now) On that note, who makes the best shock upgrades for these trucks?Someone mentioned hex nuts for the wheels. Is this an Issue? I still want to run a HPI 4.6 in the truck ( or an engine with about twice the HP as the 18SS ( i know it sounds childish, but Ive added a lot of weight to the truck so far and I want it to be fast still) Also, whats a good tire for cinders (crushed lava rock on a volcano) and out of the tuned pipes available, what will give the best low end grunt and still keep it going on the top end? thanks for the help.. owlie

RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
Hi. New to the rcuniverse forums. I havent built an RC car since 1997 (HPI Nitro Mini!!). I just got the itch again and decided to get some HPI cars. I started putting the HPI MT2 18SS kit together tonight. I ordered a few "hop-up" parts with the kits (thanks to advice from this thread) [image]http://owlie.omgwtfpwnage.com/toys2.jpg[/image] I noticed in the HPI 2-Speed kit for the MT that the set screws for the shaft were missing. The ones used on the stock unit wont work correctly with the new shaft.. Does this sound normal or did I go about this incorrectly? Also, what other mods would I need to handle a 4.6 BB upgrade? Is there a kit that will accept this motor? these are the mods I ordered with the truck along with a two speed trans. [image]http://owlie.omgwtfpwnage.com/hop-ups.jpg[/image] Another newbie question, the JR radio I got.. Is it ok? or should I use it for the Nitro RS4-3 ? Servos OK? One last thing, what exhaust pipe are you guys upgrading to? I dont like the composite one either. Im really hoping to have this car together and the bugs worked out before Labor day. My friends are taking their sand rails to the cinders in Flagstaff AZ. Ill have my own toy [:D] (minus 49,500$$) thanks for any help you guys can provide

RE: booby trapped puddle
OK, here is what I did to get the skunk smell off my dog. Darn dog got a direct blast from a skunk the other night. For those of you out there that have had a similar thing happen, then you know what I mean. Anyway, here is what you do: 32oz hydrogen Peroxide (3%), 4oz Baking soda and 1 tsp of Dawn dish soap. Mix altogether and start scrubbing. Stay away from the electronics but scrub all other parts. A possible cause that the one wheel still smells bad is you probably got that nasty water inside the tire through one of the two small holes in the tire. If that is the case then the foam inside the tire has more than likely soaked up the water from the puddle. Unfortunately, the smell came with it. This solution with neutralize the smell of most if not all stench smell. GOOD LUCK & TAKE CARE! Tim S.

RE: Radio Distance?
....OK folks, I'm back in the game. I just can't stand it when someone posts a problem and never tells what the outcome was. I mean... did the fine folks here in the forum help the poor soul or not. So in a nutshell, here is the outcome of my radio distance problem. First off, I would like to thank all who provided suggestions for me to try, THANK YOU! I tried everything that you folks and hobby shops in my area could think of but none of the ideas worked. Having run out of options I was forced to call Horizon Hobby tech dept. They told me to send in the radio transmitter and the receiver along with a letter stating the problem. In the letter, I explained everything I did in an attempt to fix the problem myself and enclosed a copy of this thread for their review. I was none too happy about sending in my radio gear but I did not have much choice. After all, now I was going to be without my LST for weeks, not to mention it cost me 13 bucks for shipping. 2 1/2 weeks later, I received a box from Horizon Hobby, yahoo...! I opened the box up to find a brand new 75MHz system with the new RS 310 receiver and new servos to boot; a complete package! Oh yeah, the invoice said N/C and that it was covered under warranty. Needless to say, I wasted no time in installing my new receiver and adjusting the radio. Took the LST to a near by H.S. Football field to see if she would go beyond 100' without glitching or hesitation. Yaba-Daba-Doo... drove her all the way across the football field and into the adjoining baseball field without one little glitch, hesitation or problem. I never really got her up to full speed because of the distance problem until now. This damn thing hauls-ass. So there you have it. A happy ending and a closure to the story. Again, thanks to the forum members for all their suggestions and a special thanks to Horizon Hobby for taking care of their customers! Take Care, Tim S.

RE: Problems with slipping transmission
OK, somewhat hard to understand but I think I get what you are saying. First off, I am assuming your clutch and slipper are working correctly. Make sure your FWD/REV linkage is all the way engaged. If found faulty, use your EPA on your radio to adjust. Next, make sure your HI/LOW range selector is locked into either hi or low range. And last but not least, check that the setscrew on both transmission's outdrive cups is tight. If what I have mentioned did not solve the problem then I am afraid you will have to take out the transmission to inspect. It is possible that you sheered one of the B3125 pins on either the transmission output shaft or on the main input shaft. There are other possibilities that would cause the problem you are having but the ones I mentioned are most likely. Good Luck and make sure you post back on your progress. Take Care, Tim S.

RE: Just quit moving
Check the slipper, it may have backed off a little bit. Also, check to make sure your forward / reverse linkage is all the way engaged. Like tocache said, check your clutch and springs. I am assuming the LST will roll ok and that there is no binding going on somewhere in the drivetrain or brakes. Good Luck! Tim S.

Well it finally stopped raining for about an hour today. I tried my truck to see if the modifications I did had any effect on the radio range. I'm sad to say that it had no effect, still cuts in & out after about 100'. Guess I'll call some of the local hobbie shops in my area to see if they have any info on the matter. If that don't work I'll give Team Losi a call. Thanks again for all your suggestions! Take Care, Tim S.

RE: Radio Distance?
Pinolelst: R/C Country, I have been there quite a few times. Thats where I bought a lot of my accessories from. Your right, they are very friendly and have been more than willing to answer any questions I had. In fact I was going to buy my LST from them but I found it online out of state (no sales tax & free shipping). Wife ordered it online & saved about 70-80 bucks. Heck, that was enough savings to pay for my battery packs & aluminum differential housings. Anyway, I hope what I did helps out with the problem but if it don't I'll take the LST to them for some help. Now if this damn weather would give me a break. On another note my wife's family is from the Pinole/El Sobrante/Hercules area. Years ago wife's Cousin was the manager of Magic Video in Pinole & Hercules. I spent many hours walking from store to store at the Hilltop Mall. Thanks for the info, Tim S.

RE: Radio Distance?
OK folks, thank you for all your suggestions. Rained all afternoon here in sunny California. By the time I got off work it was still raining and continues to pour. Nonetheless, I decided to at least get the LST prepped for when the rain stops, if it ever does. Here is what I have done so far: Not having any extra fuel line to move the filter, I wrapped high voltage/temp rubberized electrical tape around the filter to isolate it from touching the engine. I also took the center skid plate off and placed a small piece of the rubberized electrical tape over the bottom of the brake rod that sticks through the hole in the center skid plate. Now, it too is isolated from vibration. And finally, I thoroughly inspected every inch of the antenna wire coming from the receiver all the way to the end. The wire did not have any nicks or cuts and looked brand new. When I threaded it through the antenna tube I pulled it complete through as far as I could, leaving a few inches hanging out the top of the tube. Now I need Mother Nature to cooperate so I can test to see if what I have done makes any difference. If I forgot anything speak-up, don't be shy! No suggestion is a dumb suggestion. I need to find a cure to this very frustrating condition. Thanks again! Tim S.

RE: Radio Distance?
Yup, everything is plugged in nice & tight. I'm just hoping I can find a cure for this annoying problem. I would hate to send it to the factory for repair. Probably take a few weeks to get it back, not to mention the cost to have it shipped. Never know when the sun is going to peak-out for a day or so. I'll take every bit of driving time I can get, even if it is only in my yard. The 27MHz vs. 75MHz makes sense but both my son's Ofna buggies had no problem running the entire length of the football field and their radios operate on 27MHz. Hefeman also had his LST running 100 yards across two baseball fields today without problems. Hummm... any other ideas of what I can try to eliminate this very annoying problem? Keep the suggestions coming, I know there is someone out there that has had this problem and has found a way to cure it. Thanks again, Tim S.

Radio Distance?
Hello everybody, Santa (wife) left a shiny new LST under the tree for Christmas. I have everything setup nicely and it runs great. I have only run the LST on my property thus far, with no problems. The other day there was a break in the weather (damn rain & snow) so I went to the Football field of a local high school. Santa also bought my teenage boys a pair of Ofna Lx Comp buggies. We were going to have a grand time. I have equipped both Ofnas with Ofna Fail Safes and my LST with a Venom Fail Safe. The Ofnas would go the entire length of the football field without glitching a bit or the Fail Safes ever kicking in, everything worked perfect with them. My LST on the other hand would not go beyond about 100' without cutting out. No problem at all within that 100 or so feet. I have tried changing to different channels but to no avail. I have also tried taking out the Fail Safe and that has no effect on the radios range. The LST is equipped with the duel battery pack setup from onlybatterypacks.com. The battery packs are fully charged to over 6 volts and I have double checked the voltage with two different multi-testers. In the transmitter I have tried using brand new energizers and that didn't work. Then brand new Duracell batteries and that didn't work. I even tried rechargeable batteries and that didn't work either. With the regular batteries the voltage on the front panel read 12.6v and with the rechargeable batteries it only reads 11.3v. Keep in mind that there is no problem when I operate the LST at close range no matter which batteries I use in the transmitter. I have read about moving the fuel filter, which I will try tomorrow after work. I doubt the filter is my problem as the problem seems to be a range (distance) problem and not a glitching problem. I never noticed the distance problem before because I never had the LST out of my front/back yard. I have searched this forum but did not locate anything that matched my particular problem. Hoping someone can shed some light on this matter. Just don't seem right that a stock Ofna (Cheapo...) radio system has a longer range than the JR-XS3 system. If it matters my radio is the FM 27MHz system and my LST is Ser#7491 Thanks in advance, Tim S.

RE: will it hurt your reciever????
I bought the pack setup (duel battery) designed specially for the LST from onlybatterypacks.com. It's a great setup. I installed a Deans Ultra Plug on the end and have it hanging out the back just a little bit. This way I never have to take out the battery packs for charging, just plug it into my battery charger's pigtail and thats all there is to it. I have ran over 4hrs straight without noticing any difference from when the batteries were freshly charged. If you want long run times then the duel battery pack setup is the way to go. This is just my experience and of course my opinion for what it's worth. Take Care, Tim S.

One other thing you may want to check is the Fwd/Rev servo. Make sure it is going all the way into gear. Watch the servo as you change from reverse to forward and vice-versa. If it is not fully engaging it will act as you describe. Good Luck! Tim S.

Beginner's blues
My first airplane was a yellow pusher with a vee tail. Firestorm, I think it was called. On a chilly March afternoon, I head out to a school field in winds to high for a beginner. I launch it, it flies upwards and makes a nice turn. Realizing that the wind is carrying it away, I turn it back, but am too afraid to let it crash. I add more power. The little high-wing ducks behind the school building, out of sight. By now, it's landed. i know not where. I look and look. I even ask the AC maintainence people to check out the roof. Finally, I spot yellow. It's a wing. Hooray! but wait. It's the same wing , but it has a flame decal. I specifically remember putting on the spare wingwithout the decal on it. Someone must have flown the exact same model airplane and crashed it, like I did mine. Does this particular field have something against little yellow pushers? All I know is it consumed mine.

RE: Big Lots has Micro (1:64) RC Cars
I bought one..for parts. Ultimately, I'm going to use the receiver in it for another application. until then, I use it the way it's intended. On the remote control: Needless to say, it broke after a couple hours' use. A design flaw causes a lead from the UP control stick to break from the control board. Don't worry--I fixed it. But only after a 1/2 hour of filing down the knobs so they'd squeeze through the faceplate holes. you can't tell the knobs were reformed..at least not while it's in your hands, you playing with the car. On the car: From out of the package, one wheel was tilted away from the car, like it was steering in that direction. Didn't fix this, seeing that it didn't matter one away or another. Recently, it's been having trouble muscling its tires to the right when at rest, and rightly so, since it's only a little magnet wire. After a few falls from about 4 feet onto linoleum, the cover on the electrics compartment jars, requiring a little electrical tape. On a whim, I delicately put vaseline around the axle and on the gears for the car run better. I don't know about power, but it certainly is quiter..but that wasn't a big deal in the first place [:-] okay okay. this was a BIG mistake. i didn't take the dirt in account. little fibers like to stick to the axle(which is solid FYI) and wrap itself to binding the motion. ugh. Luckily, the rear axle is easily separated by popping out the gear-side end. never again! Remember: if you're unsure about a certail oil-based product around rubber tires, don't use it. Vaseline doesn't particularly damage these tires..it least it doesn't turn them into liquid--like what happened to my bike brake shoes and WD-40. ouch. Overall: [8D] it does have good run time, and the recharge rate isn't going to kill anyone. it's also pretty powerful, to boot. It has, what appears to be(I don't know, i didn't take measurements), a 1:12 reduction so it'll climb across a keyboard[8D] [:o] it really is cheaply made, but not poorly done. [:@] the car has a Ni-cad battery, so run down thebattery as much as possible before recharging [8|] the pager motor that drives it can be a little noisier than other micro RCs. I found it quiter than a chair skidding across linoleum. Yeah, I like it. for 7.44, I might get another few. but I don't think I'll buy the optional $4 body kits, thank you very much
