JR DS8911 Servo Slop
Guys Have been running the JR version of the Graupner DS8911 http://www.servodatabase.com/servo/graupner/ds-8911 in my Reaction for only about twenty flights or so and have found that three of them have developed an unacceptable amount of slop in the gear train. Has anybody had the same experience with these servos and is there a fix for them as in fitting a gear train from a different servo or something else, not very happy with these servos so far? Thanks Peter

RE: CARF Flash pricing
ORIGINAL: Craig B. The argument that I had heard relating to the higher price in Australia related to the exchange rate, back when our dollar was low in relation to the USD. I has not been that way for a long time now. Funny how a website can be updated easily and regularly except for the pricing section........
Too true, I would love to buy a couple of CARF models but the price difference whilst not monumentally different is enough to put me off, I fail to see why we in Oz pay more for a given product that is priced lower in other countries, it is about time that manufacturers (and I don't only mean models) came to their collective senses and did the right thing by consumers all over the world.

RE: JR Radio future business plan (?)
No its not a JR but I don't believe that is a bad thing, as I said I used JR exclusively for a long time as I believed it to be superior to what out there, I have had a play with Futaba and others but did not find the programming as good as JR, the DX18 in my opinion (and it is only my opinion) is superior to JR as far as programming is concerned. Also, I was a little disappointed that JR went to a totally different 2.4 protocol which would have made my many rx's redundant.

RE: Bell Mouths
Thanks Scott. So would you advise a bell mouth to be fitted just to be on the safe side, also my turbine's (Kingtech 170) manual does not specify a distance between the exhaust and the start of the thrust tube as far as I can determine; I have placed it at 19mm (3/4") as this was recommended by some? Thanks Peter

RE: JR Radio future business plan (?)
ORIGINAL: Wayne22 Likewise, I'm hoping that JR continues to support those of us who use their high end systems. The DX-18, from what I have been able to tell from playing with it, is just a 10 ch radio with a few extra channels for mixing, but until they come up with an 18 ch receiver system, it is not very useful IMO....
Not quite true, it is 12 ch radio if you use a 12 ch rx, I am sure that they will come out with much more in coming months. Also, I find the programming to be more intuitive than JR, I have been using JR exclusively for last 30years so to move to the DX18 for me was a big jump but so far I am very happy with it. Peter

RE: UP4 and Jettronics 2 way valve
A friend and I are both building the Panther and have come across the same situation as you, he has purchased another Jetronics valve to do the doors which makes a total of six valves in all, we didn't count on all the valves required when we bought them. I will probably do the same or end up using one of the supplied valves with a small servo we are both using the Powerbox SRS with the sequencer system so this is not an issue. It does make for an expensive air system though. Peter

Component Layout Question
Guys New to jets but fairly experienced in RC, I have purchased an FB F9F Panther and a Kingtech 170, I have also bought Jetronic valves, Powerbox SRS and all the usual goodies that compliment them, I have been advised that it is wise to seperate all the electronic components from the fuel systems i.e. plumb the systems on opposite sides of the fuselage. Also, told to mount the turbine pump lower than the UAT etc, I would apppreciate some advice regarding these suggestions as to if it matters where I mount the various components, if you have photos of your set-ups that would be helpfull also. I have also noticed in some photos that the UAT is recessed and angled down i.e. the rear of the UAT is set lower, is this required as it seems to me that it would not matter all that much? Thanks and Regards Peter

RE: Enlarging Prop Holes
Thanks for that. So the way I have been doing it is probably the best, I use a drill press vice ensuring that the drill bit (same size as the original hole) is free to move through the hole, I then tighten it down just sufficiently tight to ensure that it does not move. Then using icremental drill bits, in this case 10.5mm through to 12mm in .5 mm increments I allow the drill bit to find it's centre and slowly drill each succesive size bit until I achieve the desired size. Good to see that I was on the right track then! Thanks again, Peter

Enlarging Prop Holes
Guys At times I have the need to enlarge prop mounting holes, normally a prop reamer is sufficient, however I now require the holes to be enlarged from 10mm to 12mm (typical) in the past I have used my drill press using several increasing sizes of drill bits which has been relatively successful. As I said although this has worked, is there a sure fire method that would remove the pucker factor from the procedure, ie is there a jig or process that would ensure that the holes are accurate each and every time? Thanks and regards. Peter

Foam Sailplane Wings
After a long time away from soaring (about 15 years) I have decided that I want to get into scale, I bought a 4.2m Kestrel 17 that has foam wings with balsa sheeting. Do the experts believe that just the balsa will provide sufficient strength or should I add a strip of 1/2" CF along the length of the wing panels both top and bottom? If not, is there a method of adhering the balsa (other than epoxy) that will ensure that I achieve maximum strength? Thanks in advance. Peter

Polyeter Epoxy Compatability
I recently purchased a Yellow Aircraft AT-6, the instructions state that only Stabilit Express be used as an adhesive for use on the polyester fuselage and components. My question is if the fuselage and glass components are polyester will normal epoxy adhesives be strong enough (I am installing a new firewall), also is there a method of determining if I have a polyester or epoxy fuselage? It certainly looks like epoxy but it also does not have any of the aromatic odour normally associated with polyesters, is it possible that it could be a vinyl ester; I have not had any experience with these? Thanks and Regards Peter

Also, where is the best place (online) to purchase Robart's if I go that way? Thanks and regards Peter
