RE: Head gasket material for .60 model engine
Hi Eagle 1945, I have some very thin copper sheet; my wife used it years ago for a craft project. I made a head gasket from it, it hasn't blown but it does leak some, not good. I'll try some of that Perfect stuff from Tower hobbies that a previous poster, big max 1935, mentioned. Thanks for your input though, this old engine sure screems after many years of not runningits fun! Regards, Karl

Head gasket material for .60 model engine
Gentlemen; I have a 1946 Champion (Atwood) .60 ignition (on a glow plug at the moment) model airplane engine that I was given because kids took it apart and broke the two piston rings and lost the needle valve and destroyed two of three gaskets. I have made both piston rings and needle valve and I used Vellumoid 1/64" thick paper type gasket material for the cylinder and head gaskets. The cylinder gasket is working but the head gasket, blew, as I thought it might, after about 2 minutes of run time. I obviously need a gasket material that is made for head gaskets for an engine of this size. Any ideas on where I might find such an item? Thanks as always, Karl in Michigan.

RE: Instruction sheet(s) for 1946 Champion engine?
That is the point setup W8YE. The engine shown is a Super Champion, I believe. The one shown has a round exhaust port and mine is square. Clarence Lee does sound like a good source, wonder if he does this site or email? Thanks again, de KO8S, PT-109

RE: Dual points-Why on 1946 Champion Engine
Thanks guys for the info on the dual points, I'll bet they are for a 2-speed setup. Now, If I could only find out the wiring or get a instruction sheet on this setup for the Champion 60 by attwood. Regards, PT-109

Instruction sheet(s) for 1946 Champion engine?
Gentlemen; Thanks for the discussion on the dual point system for my old Champion circa 1946 ignition engine; now if I could find the instruction sheet(s), copy thereof, that were supplied with this engine when new, that would be great and no doubt, save me some time "fooling" around with it. Again, my intent to getting it running will be for show only at old antique engine shows when I run my old farm engine. As a matter of fact, I would love to have any information on this engine. A Internet searce gave me the manufacture years as 1946 ~ 1948 by Attwood Manufacturing. Also, there was a link to click for the original 4 page brouchure, but that was a dead link. Thanks again for information on this subject. My 94 year old father-in-law that bought the engine new for his kids (and they took it apart) and gave it to me, would just love to hear it run! PT-109 standing by!

How do I program a Exceed-RC 6 ch radio?
I bought a new 6 channel Exceed-RC 2.4g radio system from Hobbypartz some months ago and I did not relize that it must be computer programed in order to use, or at least, make necessary adjustments for servo direction and travel. The radio did not come with any software and when I contacted Hobbypartz, they indicated that the software is no longer included and that it could be found on the InternetGoogle for it. I am using Windows 7 and I have found some Web sites and I find it rather unclear as what will work on my computer, but for earilier versons of Windows. Let me first say this; I am not a young computer guy, but rather a very old guy that is still able to fly some parkflyers on my son's farm with for the most part, good flights (no crashes). My computer knowledge is growing, but downloading some of the necessary software to make this new radio work, is puzzling me. I have downloaded some of the drivers and software on this computer, not sure where it went, but my computer it is not able to detect my connected radio. With this being said, does anyone know, in simple steps if possible, where do I find software that I can easily download, understand and get working on a Win 7 computer. For this information I would be most greatful. I am a "backyard flyer" with simple airplanes, so this radio, if I can get it working, will be a step up and a new learning experience for me in comparison to my 72mhz radios that I use. I wish to thank those in advance that can give me a "hand" here. Kindest regards from PT-109 (which is still under construction) and that is another part of the hobby.

Dual points-Why on 1946 Champion Engine
Gentlemen; I have a Champion model airplane ignition engine, probably about a 60 engine in size, that I believe was manufactered by the Atwood Co. back in about 1946. I inherited it from my father-in-law who bought it new for his kids back then. The kids had it apart, broke both piston rings (I can make the rings) and other than that, I don't know anything much about this engine. It has a dual set of points, that I find being rather unusual, my O&R (Olsen & Rice) 23 ignition model engine has just one set. Are there any readers of this post that can shed a little information on this engine or its dual point system? I would like to run this engine for "old time sake" on a display at antique hit-n-miss farm engine shows! Thanks from PT-109

RE: FrSky 2.4gHz. Module/Receiver System - Any Luck??
Hi guys; I just received my Flysky FS-GT2 2.4g system from Hobbypartz, $27.40 for the system, $7.40 for extra receivers, free shipping too. I range tested the radio and extra receiver and I was amazed on the distance! I am going to replace my old Futaba crystal radio in my Prather Fun Cruiser with this system. Regards, Karl, PT-109

RE: PT109 Dumas
Hi Larry; you have done and are doing a great job on your Dumas PT-109! My Dumas PT-109 must be any earlier version as it came with crappy, warped, what looked like mahogany for the planking. I used 1/16" plywood instead and it looks great. As I recall, the next step is for the decking. I was stopped there as I wanted to make grooves in the plywood deck to simulate deck board and I don't know just how to do that. I to was concerned about keeping all of the deck details as light as possible as some of your other posters had mentioned/suggested. Also, I would like to have my EP model make a engine sound like the real ones! While in the US Army, I was a pres kennedy's inaugurale and saw a PT boat (marked PT-109) in that parade pass within several feet of meit was awsome! Keep us posted, Karl, Dumas PT-109 wood version builder but flying R/C electric airplanes at this moment

RE: Making a row boat
Back a couple of years ago or so, I think that Edmond Scientific or another such company, had a "toy" rowing mechanism in one of their catalogs. That would be perfect and save you a lot of hastle! Good luck, PT-109

RE: Recovering boats with R/C boats
Some years ago, in R/C Model Boating magazine, there was a construction article of such a model boat/recovery vehicle. It was R/C electric powered and and as I recall, was a catamaran that had a aluminum framework that was covered with a netting. This model should do the trick; I wonder if anyone on this forum remembers that construction article? Regards, PT-109

Whatever happend to the Fun Cruiser?
Gentlemen; I am wondering whatever happened to the Fun Cruiser 50" Homelite gas R/C boat that was made by Prather Products? I bought one some years ago from Tower Hobbies and it continues to work well for me. By now, however, I see there are faster boats with more features than the Fun Cruiser had. It doesn't look like Prather Products has a Web site anymore either. Just curious. Thanks, PT-109

RE: Plastic prop needed for Kyosho GT Viper
This is PT-109; thanks guys for your input. Yup, this prop shaft does have a bushing so the Octura prop fits the smaller boat shaft. We have plenty of winter left here in Detroit, so I time to find a prop for the grandson. Thanks again, Karl, PT-109 (Dumas)

Plastic prop needed for Kyosho GT Viper
Gentlemen; I am looking for a plastic propellor for my grandson's Kyosho Nitro Viper GT-16. He got it used from a friend (for free) and it needs a new prop. The chewed up one on it is brown plastic with the name Octura and a number that is difficult to read, looks like it could be 1435. The specs on this boat that I found on the Internet shows the prop to be 35mm x 1.4 and it is Left hand with a 3/16" bore using a drive dog. I am near Detroit; anyone know where I may pick up a couple of these? Thanks guys, Karl

RE: Inboard Marine engine .40 needed!
Fellas, you have all been a great help and I thank you all so very much! I "tried" to upload a photo that I took of my "curbside find" just as I found it, the boat had been built up to the point of being planked. The builder used CA in its construction, so I re-glued all seams with epoxy. Now let's see if my photo attachment is attached! Now, I am going to the Web sites that you guys sent me to see what I can spend my money on! It is cold now in Michigan and it is an ideal time for this project to continue! Thanks, CUL, Karl

RE: Inboard Marine engine .40 needed!
Wow! That was fast! Thanks guys for your thoughts and recommendations on my Dumas Hydro-plane U-76 wood boat! It looks to me that this model as I will build it to the original plans and materials will be a heavy one! I was kind of wondering if the recommended .40 size (K&B) engine might be big enough to get it out of the water! Again, I just want it to for a little fun, no racing planned with it. I am 72 years old and I don't think that I can re-act quick enough at very high speeds! I also have a four year old gas boat, the Prather Fun Cruiser for a nice running boat. I have a nearly complete Dumas wood PT-109, about 33" long that will be electric powered. A nitro engine in this model would probably vibrate all of the deck details right off of it! As for the engine for the U-76, I think I would rather buy it brand new rather than one off of E-bay that might be less than perfect (messed up). Also, I want to add the very latest running gear. If you guys have any other thoughts on this, let me have them, please! Karl

Inboard Marine engine .40 needed!
Gentlemen; I found, at the curb, being discarded a old Dumas wood boat kit (kit 1312), a 36" model of the Atlas Van Lines U-76 hydro-plane! The kit was started up to the begaining of planking and all of the wood and plans were in the original box! I have built Dumas boats before and I knew exactly what it was when I found it and it was all there! I am now planking the boat and the original plans call for a K&B .40 size engine. Is K&B still around? Anyway, I would like to marine nitro power it and this model will not get a lot of running, probably like my other boats and I will not be racing it either. Any suggestions on a up to date power plant for this model??? Thanks much, Karl

RE: Harbor Freight's #95641 R/C electric boat
Thanks Ron, that's what I will do! I bought a Yellow Bee R/C airplane from Harbor Freight and that little plane does pretty good for $30.00. I guess you still get what you pay for. But, sometimes one gets lucky; about a month ago, while "curbside shopping" here in Warren, I found a discarded Dumas Atlas Van Lines hydroplane kit, complete! It had been started up to the planking stage. I plan on finishing it this winter. The kit calls for a K&B 40 ~ 60 engine; I am wondering if there is a better engine choice years later. I have my Dumas PT-109 to complete in the meantime. Happy boating Ron, Regards, Karl

Harbor Freight's #95641 R/C electric boat
Fellow boaters; Has anyone tried out the Harbor Freight model electric 24" twin motor, R/C model boat lot no.95641? It is priced here in Detroit at $69.99 in their flyer paper and I have 15% off of anything coupon that would bring the price down. I think my grandson at age 12 could have fun with it. Thanks for your input, I am Karl, PT-109
