RE: RC Tanks as collectibles
I could see two classes of tanks becoming collectable... vintage, still in the box, and anything Rex Ross scratch built.

RE: Show us your Sherman
Well now, those are some mighty fine Sherman tanks. The combined hours spent customizing them all must add up into the thousands of hours. Much time, talent and money is represented in those pictures. A real inspiration to those of us at the other end of the Sherman spectrum. Like me. Here is my son’s brand new Mato Sherman being unloaded from the truck. It is going into the shop for a new DBC and RX-18 setup so it can be a battle tank. Nothing has been done to it yet but I have built a Cullen hedgerow cutter and a phone box for it. Those will be added later when the inside stuff is done. It the first Mato tank in our house so the conversion will be an adventure.

RE: HL stug ready for battle!
I just thought I would let everyone know that I got the problem solved. I bypassed the crimp on fitting and soldered the wires and everything works great. The DBC and the sound card work just as they should. Thanks Dan for all your help. It was something you said in an e-mail that gave me the idea to solder the wires. You were very patient with me, thanks.

RE: 2.4GHz radio setup for Leopard 2a6
I use a 4 channel 2.4 ghz Futaba skysport to run my Leopard. I did need to hook up the receiver wires in a different pattern than the Leopard manual called for but everything works great. It is also possable to rig up a cannon fire button so you can shoot without using the sticks. I think I had to switch the #2 and #3 wires.

RE: HL stug ready for battle!
It will get worked out, no worries. I'm sure I'm just not doing something right yet. That would be typical of me. On a more fun note... We took it up above tree line today and drove it in the snow and tundra at 12,200 feet above sea level. The family had a blast with the tank and my son's rock crawler making movies in the snow. It was dirty, late season snow but the stug did great. The rock crawler got stuck but the tank never did. It churned through snow, grass, mud, rocks and more snow with no problems. FRAG Report: I fired a few rounds to the South to let those DAK folks know we have more armor up here in the mtns now.

I sent an e-mail with more info about the issue. I can add some pix of the wires here. The extra LEDs have an in-line reistor and nothing seemed to be getting hot. They are easy to disconnect as well.

RE: HL stug ready for battle!
I opened it up and checked the wires and everything looked great. I switched out the sound card and the DBC unit and the same thing, cannon sound, but no hit, or destory sound. Hmmm. While I had it open I lengthened the speaker wire and added some 3mm red LEDs to the stowage on the back deck. They are hooked into the "hit" LEDs on the TBU so they flash with every hit too. No mater how hard I try, I can never get the stowage back on the same way twice. See pictures.

RE: HL stug ready for battle!
Thanks guys! I thought the rattle can paint job would be inaccurate but it seems my free style paint job is accurate. At least the pattern. Here are some pix of it from years past. The stowage always seems to stack out different. Back then, on the Eastern front she was #68. Now in France she is #21. Never let the dog steal the map!

RE: HL stug ready for battle!
My son and I took it out for a test battle in the yard. It killed the panther and the panther killed it just fine. It seems to be missing the hit and destoryed sound but the cannon fire sound is there. I will open it up tomorow and look for lose wires. My cannon recoil seems to be sticking sometimes too, so some fine tuning is still needed before she goes over to Denver. I plan to open it up anyway when those 3mm LEDs arrive.

RE: HL stug ready for battle!
I picked the stug to convert because of those very reasons. It will kick *%#@ at the FRAG battle ground. That place is tight and can be very hard to maneuver in.

HL stug ready for battle!
I put a DBC in my old stug to convert it into a Tamiya compatible battler. I’m using a Hobby King HK-T6A V2 transmitter, a DBC3 and the TBU from my Leopard. I just got it set up and am very happy with it. The stug was the very first RC tank (AFV) that I painted. I used Krylon camo spray paint to do a three color pattern of my own design. Later I learned what the true colors should have been but by then I had weathered it so I kept it as is. I have added 3:1 metal gears, metal tracks, and metal drive sprocket and idler. I also have winterketten tracks for it that I put on in the winter. Because of the winterketten tracks, I opted for no shurtzen (I think I spelled that right). When I put the DBC in I moved the speaker to the rear deck to save space inside and get more sound for free. I also made a “box” to disguise the speaker as stowage. I put the IR LED in the muzzle and the flash LED inside so it shows through the drivers periscope. Later I plan to experiment with using 3mm LEDs to put both flash and IR in the muzzle. Now I have 3 IR battle tanks that are Tamiya compatable with a forth about to be converted.

RE: Tamiya leo 2 issues
The return rollers should keep the upper part of the track supported above that level. You should have 4 return rollers per side, 2 short and 2 long ones. Do you have return rollers? My return rollers broke off easy but lucky for me I found them in the grass and re-installed them with scratch built gussets. Just read your edit...

RE: Tamiya leo 2 issues
Here is my Leo supported so the tracks hang free. Compare yours to these pictures. I'm not claiming my set up is the best, but generaly the only track related problems I have are jamming the drive sprocket with sticks, rocks, and in the winter, ice. It has never thrown a track.

RE: Tamiya leo 2 issues
I second that! See if the idler adjustment is maxed out first. Posting pictures would help us to help you. Can you take a picture of the track droop when you support it so the tracks hang free? My Leo tracks hang down just enough that the tops of the guide horns are still between the center road wheels, but just a little bit, say 1mm or so.

RE: Tamiya leo 2 issues
The things I would check are the track tension, as mentioned above, and the clearance between the drive sprocket and the fender. I have about 2mm clearance on my Leopard. Also, the plastic part that wraps around the drive sprocket, part # W1 and W2, captures the track guide horns and is needed to prevent throwing tracks. If you did not re-install that part when you had the locktite troubles it could be the problem. Tall grass will make it difficult to do pivot turns, my drive sprocket will clip off grass and wrap it around the sprocket if the grass is not short enough. Do you have the same problem turning on pavement / dirt?
