RE: What does weathering for us....
I like weathering... seriously, I do. But most times it's over done as those tanks in service were so new they were mostly just dirty and not all chipped and rusted up. Personally, I like the gate guard look. But out on the battlefield it is not so appealing but a good look for a static piece. So it all comes down to what you like and the application. ~ Jeff

RE: Panzer IV Tamiya speaker.
Isn't the KV speaker the same as the Panzer IV? Appears like it to me as I have one for my KV project. I would check to see if there is a price difference as it looks like they are only different in color. I looked on eBay but it seems there are none available at the moment. ~ Jeff

RE: Apple cupola video
That's why I said it would be nice to eliminate the apple and let the tank dictate those little uncertainties. Then the 45 degree defense (which I have used before) would be eliminated. Still a neat idea and results! ~ Jeff

RE: Apple cupola video
ORIGINAL: ausf It could tested and proven before the battle for effectiveness. My concern would be complaints that it isn't a 3'' tall tower sticking out of a hatch. That the low profile is an unfair advantage, even though StuGs did benefit from low profile. Because there isn't a baffle on the periscopes, the opening allows for larger angles than using a TBU. PzIII/IV cupolas (early Tigers too) are tailor made for this, you wouldn't even need to bounce to the sensor, the filters and sensors can be right inside the vision slits. As long as the inside is sealed with foil tape or thick paint, you have your 45 degree defense.
Well, please do not take this as an attack or being argumentative but the apples must be able to take a hit, period. I can see where this would not fit in ALL battle scenarios but that's on the group as a whole to decide, just like the sweep shot and hull defensive maneuver. I personally would love to see the elimination of the apples so that each vehicle has it's own little quirks on getting hit. But not everyone is talented enough to do so and it's hard enough to grow new takers interested in it. But, who knows. This thing could take off long after "we" move on to other things... or just get too old to want to battle anymore. [:D] ~ Jeff

RE: Heng Long Turrent Rotation in Tamiya Panther
Thanks but I am an old mechanic at heart and believe in replacing the problem. At least it keeps Tamiya rolling. I just have to replace something and make it better at the same time. While this seems like a no-brainer and very cost effective, the part in question is technically worn and should be replaced. If I were rolling in HL parts I'd do the big switch over but think for now (and the short time I am on the battlefield) this will do. [:D] Great Tech-Tip! That's a good video and thanks Bob. It really feels like we are still there! LOL I wish I could have been able to meet Karen there as well, her and Natasha are so instrumental in us obtaining our goodies... and did you hear the way Natasha was rattling off part numbers? She sure does knows her parts! I was extremely rusty and didn't know the terrain but in returning I hope to fix that. It's not all about winning for me but would like to be on the battlefield a little longer than I was! RE: Heng Long Turrent Rotation in Tamiya Panther
ORIGINAL: tomhugill  Using a bit of CA (superglue) on the slipper clutch will solve all issues!
Yup... gluing the clutch is one way. IF the glue likes the plastic, IF there is no residual oil or grease left around and IF it is glued correctly and flat. So the blue gear is the best way! [:D] Your gear will only be as strong as that glue. ~ Jeff

RE: Heng Long Turrent Rotation in Tamiya Panther
It would be like most modifications and a lot of work. Looks like the HL motor mounts forward of the turret opening so it shouldn't interfere with the stock speaker. But you will have to rework the turret floor and probably use a HL floor to get the ring to mount. I would just get rid of the clutch and install a blue gear. ~ Jeff

RE: A True White Elefant.
Oh, sweet work there Jeff! Saw the white pics yesterday but was happily shocked to see it had color already, and I really like your paint scheme too. [;)] It sounds like a brute already but can you share any hurdles the kit threw at you? I have one, but I am suppling all the drive companants as I bought a static kit. I know some bearings are needed but how was the idler system and suspension? Got it sitting out to start on but a few builds snuck in ahead of it. I was thinking of using the Jagdpanther set up for the gun operation. Sound good? ~ Jeff
