RE: Tamiya Sherman Question
Now I'm confused a little Bob. Is the sound in the MF or the DMD? Meaning if I use an MF-01 with a Sherman DMD T-05 will I have the Sherman engine sound ...or... the Tiger eng sound? OR....do I have to use the MF-02 and T-05 to get the Sherman sounds? If I want the Pershing sounds, what MF and DMD do I use? Thanks, PP

Tamiya Sherman Question
Gents: Do any of you know if a Tamiya MF-01 unit can be used with the Sherman DMD T-05 ? The Sherman 56014 instruction books say the T-05 goes with an MF-02......but I have a spare MF-01 unit that I want to use in the Mato Sherman I just rebuilt for full option. Just trying to save a buck if I can avoid buying the MF-02. Also, where would you suggest I buy it....local....in the USA? Thanks PP

RE: FRAG Aug 25th Battleday - Vid #1 Grand Tour
ORIGINAL: karel47 mustclime i was  wondered by your reaction to paul's battlefield ... glad its all solved it is indeed hard working to accomplish such a big field and also the maintennance cost a lot of free time yeah words are sometimes hard to put down in the right way he paul how big is your battlefield from what i saw on the airmovie its about our size is that correct
Karel: Thanks for your positive comments. Inside the chain link fence, our field is about 80' x 100' except one corner is clipped off a bit.....plus we have the space behind that is triangular .... about 60' x 40' x 80'. But that area has lots of weeds to be removed before we could use it. There are no trees on it either......so guess that's phase 2 of the overall project. More money and more time required [:)] Because the village has been expanded over the years and no one wanted to have to shift a ton of dirt and trees outward, it has thus encroached a bit on the RR facility which does make the driving over there a bit tight. Still its a challenge and adds a lot of variability to the game. In the vids, when you see some up close combat, it is most likely a newbie trying to score hits. He probably has had trouble negotiating around the village (which is intimidating) and ended up out in the open area, where he came upon the enemy "up close and personal". Newbies tend to freeze up a bit and worry more about dodging the tank off his shoulder, rather than taking a hit and having 9 seconds to scamper away or get behind something. Thus we see the circular dance of two tanks..............which is obviously not prototypical. I personally prefer the clutter of the village because being out in the open like in our periphery areas, and as it largely is at Danville, it seems way too easy to make hits (sometimes on more than one tank at a time) and it lets tankers "fly" all over the place......much too fast (not prototypical as in WWII). I think it is more realistic to have to go slower and play hide and seek behind a tree, building or wall and then pop out to try to obtain a hit on the enemy. I have encouraged my team mates to clean up the back area if they want more open field battleing, but so far no one has taken up the challenge. If we had a Battle System that allowed for narrow beams and specific hit areas on a tank, then open field battles could be as challenging as village battles, but until such time the TBU approach is the best we have even with its limits. I'd like to add a word about something Mustclime said. I used to live in Baltimore MD and do understand the cost of land and taxes on the east coast.....surprisingly its about the same here in Denver. But in any event, a club would be very hard pressed to buy or lease a piece of land and to raise money to pay rent and taxes. FRAG does not have to do that. We found land that was vacant and used as a dumping ground illegally by the public, and offered to clean it up and fence it for the use thereof. That was 11 years ago and the property owner (a public entity) has been gratefull for our help. So my suggestion is to contact cities, counties, the state, federal parks, school systems, etc etc and ask if they have extra land that is not used. Just about everyone of these entities are exempt from paying taxes and might be interested in a trade off of "use by you for keeping it clean". We also are open to the public to come see our games and we try to educate children about history......WWII and our forefather's sacrifices. Mustclime................no hard feelings here. Perhaps I misread the intent of your words. FRAG has invested a huge amount of time and money to create its battlefield and we hope that it is an inspiration to all who seek to build a club field. Just as many others, we seek to see the RC tank hobby grow all over the world. There are all kinds of ways to do battle........all are acceptable. PP

RE: FRAG Aug 25th Battleday - Vid #1 Grand Tour
What I find interesting is that out of all the many, many pictures and videos we have posted over the last 5 years on 5 forums, Youtube and Facebook, there has "never been" a negative response until now....from you. Perhaps you should create an outdoor battlefield and show us how its suppose to be done.........since you sound as if you know exactly how things were back in the 1940's and how everything should look. I eagerly await your expertise demonstrated by the thousand's of man hours it will take you to create anything even remotely like our battlefield. Then again, I will likely be waiting forever because I find most people are just talkers and not doers. I do not find your negative comments and derisions, necessary or warranted. PP

Chief: We don't have a big open field area, being Normandy and all, so if you aren't in the village then you are in the hedge rows. Here is the link to "all" the videos on Youtube. Some of them are out and around the village proper. RE: FRAG Aug 25th Battleday - Vid #1 Grand Tour
Well as I recall that's about how it was in small Normandy villages during WWII............and it also brings out the best in each player because he has to be careful driving and its a challenge to find the enemy. No full out, slam bam run around the open field like a jack rabbit set up for us. We will leave that for others. Realism is the goal here!

FRAG Aug 25th Battleday - Vid #1 Grand Tour
This month we spent a good amount of time taking video shots of the battles. One of our members purchased a high quality camera that was mounted to the back of a Sherman turret and was also hand held on a boom for overhead shots. The overhead views are a bit shaky at times as he moved around, but you can still see a lot of the overall field and lots of action. This first video was a basic ground level tour around the field before any of the battles began, but the Sherman and Pershing ran into a King Tiger. It seemed to be sleeping, and after pestering it a bit they bypassed the kitty and headed for hedge row country. We will post a few of these vids, but they can all be seen on FRAG's Youtube site. Hope you enjoy our efforts. PP

RE: FRAG July 28, 2012 Village Pics
dlobmwm3 : The FRAG field was started in 2001. Over the years since, it has changed from early efforts to what you see now, which has been basically created in the last 5 years. For each battleday, we now set up 32 buildings, about 12 dioramas (soldiers behind sandbag emplacements, 88 and 105 mm guns, etc), close to 30 static vehicles (jeeps, trucks, halftracks etc), and maybe 50+ soldiers (they have a half inch long steel pin sticking out of the foot that gets pushed into the ground so they will stand up). The buildings are set upon concrete foundations which match thier size and which also keeps everything perpendicular to the earth (I hate to see a building set up that leans sideways). Around the pads are a series of concrete streets and sidewalks. Usually the last thing that goes up on a battleday are the 40+ wood telephone poles....they are set into predrilled holes in the streets. Most of the time a tank driver can avoid them, but occassionally one gets run over. It takes about 2 hrs for each battleday set up, and about 45 mins to put it all away in the shed located onsite. It would be great to have other tankers visit on a battleday, especially from other clubs, so anyone and everyone is invited. Thanks, PP

FRAG July 28, 2012 Village Pics
FRAG held another monthly battleday on July 28th, 2012. Present were 9 members with tanks, fighting it out toe to toe with the enemy. We also had considerable public presence watching the games. For we American tankers it was a less than a spectacular event as the Germans fought with tenacity and perseverance, and could not be ousted from the main village on all but one occasion, after which they immediately counter attacked and took back the real estate. It seemed that the King Tiger was indeed….King of the Hill…..on this day. We also had one of our newest members drive 6+ hours from the western slopes of Colorado to join us. We again wish to thank Greg for his sacrifice and dedication in making that trip, and for heading up the Western Slope Division of FRAG. We hope he is successful in recruiting new members from out there, who will make the trip with him in the future. FRAG July 28, 2012 US Camp Pics
As stated in our other thread, the American tankers had considerable difficulty overcoming the German opposition. In each attempt, the Americans advanced from their base camp, heading out in any of 4 routes of advance…..often with a couple of tanks on the same line of march. There were 3 Pershings and an “up-gunned Sherman on the attack. Usually they went up against 2 KTs and 2 T-1s. This is the US Camp:

FRAG July 28, 2012 Railroad Junction Pics
On the outskirts of The Village is the railroad junction which is heavily modeled after the similar scene in the Kelly’s Hero movie. We have yet to redo the arched tunnel entrance, but hope to soon. We missed taking some pictures of the tanks tromping thru the area during our battles, so we had to focus on the buildings and overall scene as an after thought. But we trust you will feel the effect none the less. RE: HL Panzer III Gear Boxes
Hi Rob: I am assuming that the brass tube is slid over the white plastic collar of that gear....which btw is exactly where mine cracked. I can do that but how is that gear removed from the gearbox. I don't want to break something else trying to fix it.... LOL. PP

HL Panzer III Gear Boxes
Has anyone changed the gear boxes or just the gears in the HL Panzer III? I am using metal tracks and the gears tend to slip when making turns. I have noted that each of the last gears in the box (the ones on the drive shaft) are cracked in one place along the base which is positioned over the metal shaft. However these two gears do not seem to be loose or slipping. I'm looking for input from others who have experienced the same problem and how you solved it. Thanks PP
