RE: RC Surfer
ORIGINAL: MK There is water getting into the hull from somewhere. Had to drill a small hole in the hull and suck the water out with a straw. I'm hopeing its just the bad screws and seals.
Probably from the motor shaft...
ORIGINAL: surfcurls Hi Paolo, On your web site you have a pic of a motor set up, Hi Tec servo / receiver, and an ESC. What size and brand ESC are you using with that six cell NI-MH battery set up ?
Hi, the ESC is a Pulso DLB-60 Opto that I brought on ebay last year...the battery pack is seven cell, GP 3700 or Grepow 3300.

RE: RC Surfer
My Kyosho dude also suffers a little problem with alignment, a bit of salt water came in through the motor shaft, I had fill the hull with pieces of sponge. The better way is change to flex transmission like the Graupner GR 1974

RE: RC Surfer
UMM...too much weight near the tail with the 4AA batteries...better choiche is put a ESC instead the stock servo-microswitch off-full throttle, then move the receiver battery pack in the front.[;)]

RE: RC Surfer
x tomatse: check those motors, works good witrh RC Surfer and the seller ship worldwide (Feigao 540 12 for speed, 540 8L or 9L for more torque and much runtime): http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/products.php?cat=42 x BigWaveMax:I cool my brushless motor with a silicone coil. Do you use a 4400 kv motor?? it's absolutely too much, in fact the ESC goes in protection mode like you wrote and the prop can go in cavitation easy quick. The good range rpm/volt for me it's 2500-3500. Regards Paolo Italy

RE: RC Surfer
No it's no good, it's too small....don't check rpm data only, there is class type also....choose a motor that I mentioned above.

RE: RC Surfer
Hi Tomaz, more turns: - speed, + torque; less turns: + speed but - torque (and more battery consumption). The motors that you've indicated aren't good, the RC Surfer needs a motor between 2500 and 3500 rpm/volt. Are very good: Mega 22/20/2, Hacker B40 series (8L or 9L), Jeti Phasor 15/3 or the cheap Feigao that you can find on http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/. If the RC surfer goes for 10 min with a 1500 mha battery, it will go for 20 min with a 3000 mah one! I use a GP3700 7 cells, I usually run for about 25 min putting gas when the good set arrive only, and returning on the line up at 1/2 gas....let see my video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWQuv1P-kX4 Regards Paolo

RE: RC Surfer
You can use 27mm to 31mm propeller, size depend to rpm/volt motor also, smaller prop 27 or 28 with a 3500 rpm/volt motor, I use a brushless Jeti Phasor motor 15/3 2500 rpm/volt with a 30mm x 1.4 brass prop. With bigger prop the motor and batteries run hotter, and the batteries run time reduced. Stock motor specifications?? Are very poor dear tomatze! You do the good choiche changing it with a 17 to 21 turns with only few dollars. Regards Paolo

RE: RC Surfer
Hi vagabondsailor, like I wrote before in the NQD surfer you must replace every internal part, except the motor mount, because get rusty soon or however are poor, in my website you can see the single parts that I choosed: www.surfradiocomandato.4000.it Regards Paolo

RE: RC Surfer
Hi, between motor and shaft you must use an alu coupler, kupplung in deutch, with mm hole diameter depend of motor size shaft, 5 or 3,17mm. I bought it on www.hydrorcmania.it an rc boat italian shop, let's go in "accessori" then "giunti". Your german friends talk without knowledge...tell us that RC Surfer shaft angle is very similar to the Eco boats one. However is not downforcing, so my Kyosho suffered a little the chop water, and I have 4AA batteries for the receiver near the nose. In fact some guys add some self adesive lead weight inside in the nose zone, near the receiver for stabilize the board. Not videos for NQD Lisa yet, I'll put a flex shaft and a a new motor within next summer, this year I've used only the Kyosho dude Kevin. If you are interested I wish sell an Hacker B40 12S+ESC Jeti 40 AMP at half price.

RE: RC Surfer
Yes trimegadon you must replace the control board with a receiver, servo and ESC. In my models a bit of water came always inside, I think through the shaft tube, but I fill innside with many piece of sponge and I have no problem. In the first NQD session the water has wasted the electronics parts, and there was no waves, the model was stopped in the middle of the sea....now i've waterproofed receiver and ESC using waterproofer spray Plastik 70, epoxy glue, silicon and rubber ball for the receiver. If you are interested there is a genuine Kyosho RC Surfer dude on ebay, item no.260175346459

RE: RC Surfer
Trimegadon what do you mean for pc board? Receiver or electronic speed controller? In the NQD servo and "speed controller" are in the same block...you had to replace with a 2 CH FM receiver and a good servo like Hitec 225MG or 645MG like mine. My NQD also stopped at he first session, flat water but strong offshore wind...I return to my home, take bodyboard and had to swim for 12 minutes to catch it...after that experience I decided to changed almost everything. If water came inside, try to seal the lid with clear tape, I do so with my models. Here below my NQD after tuning:

RE: RC Surfer
Graupner GR321 is the transmission (shaft+tube), shaft is 4mm mm and is required a new coupler 4-3,17mm or 4-5mm, depend by the motor's shaft diameter. For the brushed motor you can use a GM motor like DR.Speed 2x21, Purple Bull 17x2, Purple Tiger 17x1 or 31x1, check on ebay.de.

RE: RC Surfer
Hi Micha, your German friends advices are wrong. I means rpm/volt, I use a brushless Jeti Phasor 15/3, 2500 rpm/volt, 2500rpm x 8,4 volt (7 cells battery) = 21000 rpm and goes well. Someone use motors with 3500 rpm/volt and goes well already, but you must use a smaller prop like a 27mm (I use a 30mm brass prop with mine). A very used motor is the Mega 22/20/2, is about 2800 rpm/volt, it's very fast, so a brushed motor with 2800 rpm/volt is perfect. You must replace the transmission with a Graupner GR321 o with a flex transmission. My Kyosho weight is 1,7kg, the NQD covered in carbon fibre 2,1kg, both with 4AA receiver battery pack. The NQD board is heavier however. I don't know wich speed they get. If you can, get bruhless motor!

RE: RC Surfer
Hi MiFi, the car motor betwenn 15-21 turns and 2500-3500 rpm are good. In the NQD surfer the original shaft, the screws and every metal parts will get rusty soon, you must replace those whith stainlesss steel parts.

RE: RC Surfer
JT the stock screws for the feet maybe could break into serious wipeot...I've reinforced with adesive velcro straps and a inox 3mm screw like below. In my surfers I have no flex shaft that is better however. In the NQD whith few hummer hit I've removed the stock shaft, then replaced whit a Graupner 6mm out diameter and fixed with epoxy glue.

RE: RC Surfer
Hi, the NQD it self right well after wipe out, the Lisa remain still in one side on the water but if you give throttle it self right, and so is for the Kyosho. In the NQD I've changed everything, new 4mm srainless steel shaft and brass prop 30mmx1.4.

RE: RC Surfer
Hi, I have both surfers, Kyosho original dude and the fake one Lisa chinese NQD. The NQD board is strong and heavier than Kyosho, however good build. But the metal parts very very poor! Yuo must change rudder linkage, shaft and every metal part because is not made in stainless steel like the Kyosho. My Kyosho Dude run with Jeti Phasor 15/3 brushless motor, GP 3700 8,4 Volt, 30x1.4 prop. Is not a rocket but I interested for much more runtime, in fact, going at full gas only in the waves, return at half throttle and waiting still for the good set, I can get 25 to 29 min. I have another 2 Dude Kits, next summer I'll motorize one of them with Hacker B40 12S, this yes it's a rocket! If you would see my NQD Lisa that I covered in carbon fiber check this link to my website: http://digilander.libero.it/squalettino75/surf%20radiocomandato.htm I'll post soon a review with photos in action and video in 3 foot waves with my other rc surf, Kyosho Dude, below in this photo.
