RE: a lesson to all
Problem is, if he makes that kind of mistake, (more than once) better technology is not a substitue for good practice and/or good sense. People who depend on technology to keep them from brain farting will inevitably do it again........just on something else that matters. He is just lucky all he destroyed was his own stuff! This could have EASILY been a life-changing brain fart if his 50cc aircraft had destroyed someone else's property or, heaven forbid, physically injured or killed someone. He WAS LUCKY and should consider himself as such as he only harmed his own pocketbook. It doesn't really matter if you are flying 72mhz or 2.4ghz, there are still minimum checks that should be performed before every flight to keep the likelyhood of catastrophe as low as possible. At a minimum, your buddy should re-evaluate his pre-flight procedure..........regardless of what type of equipment he is using. By the way, if his brain fart had tuned out for the worst (and it easily could have) he could have cost you guys your flying site! In this litigious-happy society, that would have been a distinct possibility. I didn't mean to rain on anyone's parade but a dose of "WHAT IF" reality is in order here.

RE: Need help with info on this Super Tigre engine
Thanks Bill, My appologies for the multiple posts. I was trying to get it in the correct forum but wasn't sure which one it needed to be in. I have read warnings about turning the needles in to far as the seats are kind of delicate. I really want to disassemble it and clean it up but I want to get some baseline needle valve settings before I do. How careful should I be when I turn the needle in to count the turns? It is sometimes kind of hard to determine when the needle is bottomed out on a gummed-up carb.

Ok all you Super Tigre Afficionados out there
I need help with some specific information on the Super Tigre engine in the photos. On the exhaust side of the cylinder it says "Series X G.60". On the other side it says "Made in Italy by Super Tigre". It has a crankcase vent but it is plugged and not being used in the old Aeromaster Biplane in which it is mounted. I can recall years ago that it hauled that old "heavy" Aeromaster around the sky with quite a lot of authority. I would like to get some idea as to the vintage of the engine and whether it is anything special as Super Tigre engines of that vintage go. I have looked on-line but all of the similar looking "Super Tiger .60 Bluehead" engines I could find had a large, rather conspicuous bypass port running up the side of the cylinder. This one has nothing of the sort. Since this one has a bolt-on front end, I would like to get it running, rotate the front end 90 degrees so it will run in "reverse" and use it in a pusher aircraft. What kind of performance can I expect from this engine? Any information you guys can give will be greatly appreciated.

Way more options in tractor props. Choices in pusher props are severely limited.

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Thanks opjose. Once I recieve all the parts and pieces I need for construction I plan to do a mock-up so that I know what I'm up against CG wise. That way I can make adjustments during the building/assembly process to assure I don't run into any major CG problems. I plan on going with Springair 302 or 305 rectracts and the landing gear shown. Elevator (HS-125MG), Rudders (HS-82MG), Ailerons (Futaba 3152's), 16oz. tank stopper forward. Can I get away with a micro servo on the retract air valve? For whomever is still following this thread, I welcome any comments from the peanut gallery out there. Give me your experiences (good/bad/indifferent).

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Opjose, I just recently acquired a Bobcat 52 N.I.B. off the RCU classifieds. I'm planning on going with OS .75AX, 11 x 8P Graupner, retracts the whole 9 yards. i'm looking for some advice on engine location (forward/aft). I know that the farther forward the engine sits on the mount, the closer the propeller tips come to the wing trailing edge. Is there an optimum or minimum clearance I should maintain between the prop tips and the wing trailing edge? I could just mount the engine as far aft as possible but I know there is a CG issue to be addressed with larger engines on this airframe. This .75AX is pretty hefty (26 oz.). I want to leave enough clearance without having the engine unnecessarily too far to the rear. I've read through this entire thread twice and there is a wealth of knowledge and experience here that will enable me to be successful with this aircraft. I tried to get an idea by looking at all the photos in this thread but it is kind of hard to extrapolate a measurement from a picture. It will certainly eliminate what would normally be a lot of trial and error getting this aircraft set up correctly and flyable. Any input from any of you still following this thread will certainly be helpful and appreciated.

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Has anyone out there converted the Bobcat 50 horizontal stab into a fully symmetrical airfoil? It really wouldn't be that difficult. It might help with some of the dynamic trim/balance problems I've been reading about. I'm considering building one for my Bobcat. You could also just add some small curved half-ribs to the bottom of the stock stab and then monokote over them. It could be done at a very small weight penalty and as a bonus it would give some extra thickness to better hide a single, stab-mounted elevator servo. Any thoughts from you gurus out there?

I've raced club Q-300s (no rudder) in all kinds of wind conditions and never had a problem with cross-wind landings......and this when all landings after a race are dead-stick with no chance for a go-around.

Has anyone attempted to tint the canopy on the Bobcat 50? I have the yellow/blue/red kit. The canopy is clear and I'd like to tint it yellow. Has anyone had any success tinting the Bobcat 50 canopy with Rit dye?

Just trying to save some weight, especially back on the tail like that it may make it easier to balance. The kit calls for 1 servo on each (2) rudder.

RE: Bobcat 50 canopy tinting
Thanks Jim but I am asking specifically about the canopy on the Nitoplanes Bobcat 50 jet. I've sucessfully tinted canopies using Rit dye too but some canopy materials on some ARFs are not receptive to Rit dye depending on what material it is made of. I have had some stay crystal clear regardless of how hot the water, how strong you mix the dye or how long you let the canopy sit in the dye solution. Just trying to avoid going to all the trouble and mess of setting up to dye a canopy if someone else out there has tried on this particular ARF canopy and could not achieve satisfactory results. I really like the garbage bag idea.......never thought of that. I could have avoided ruining some plastic food storage containers, that's for sure.

Whom out there has built the Bobcat 50 with non-functioning rudders? If so, any regrets or does it really make a difference. I know it would affect knife-edge flight but, does this airplane knife-edge worth a flip anyway? Just trying to find some ways to save some weight.

Servo programmer/tester
I am confused as to the differences between the HPP-20, HPP-21, HPP-21 Plus and HFP-25 servo programmers. The on-line manuals seem to be geared toward users that are already familiar with servo programming. I have some recently purchased HS-5625MG servos and need to figure out which programmer is best suited to my needs. I am most interested in being able to reverse the servo rotation directions, increase the angle of rotation to achieve maximum control surface throw without overtaxing my servos by resorting to extreme control surface linkage geometries and coordinate 2 servos such as using one servo on each elevator half. What is the maximum angle of rotation I can safely program the HS-5625MG for? I am not particularly interested in being able to do any field programming or testing.

I'd like to keep the magneto/flywheel in tact just in case the engine doesn't work satisfactorily on gas/glow. Then I could always convert it back to magneto. I guess I'll have to get someone to make me a hub.

Once I remove the magneto/flywheel am I going to need some kind of hub or something to take up the space where the flywheel was. The stock prop hub bolts to the front of the magneto/flywheel.
