RE: Wish I had the money for one of these tanks!
All you have done Turbo Burns, is post exactly what Lamps was answering on his website and for which he also gave a direct link to, so the guys clearly not hiding anything. I wonder why you only post when this subject is raised, I think you may be one of the ones hiding something eh [8|] R.C.

RE: Pin Vice
Pin Vice has to be the best invention ever, to find an alternative is just excellent, if mine ever breaks I'll keep this in mind, cheers for the info.

RE: Airbrushes?
Hi Dazman, I have the Badger Anthem and an Iwata Revolution TR-1. Both very good airbrushes and I'd recommend them to anyone. The Iwata is perfect for intricate detailing and the Anthem is used for the areas where a wider coverage is needed due to the more multi purpose needle. I can't help with the Tamiya ones as I've had no experience with them but they look nice in the pictures.

RE: Tiger grey - what to use in the UK?
You could maybe use the Sea Grey paint to go very lightly over the panzer grey once you have that coat on, depending on how light it is in comparison to the panzer grey, it would highlight the raised areas and lower the indentations, bringing out more detail in the finish. In my opinion though, whatever you paint it with as long as it's a grey you can't go wrong. Paints fade after time in the field so if you want a battle hardened Tiger then you can just use the grey you have already. I've seen some great looking Tigers with a greyish white finish, very worn around the edges and they look as good as any.

That's the best large scale Sherman I have seen so far, very nicely done.

RE: Airbrush question
I use the Iwata Revolution TR-1 and a Badger Anthem for all my painting. The Iwata is the better for small detailed work but I don't like using enamels in my pride and joy so I have the badger for that job. Both are fairly expensive and possibly over the top for what you want. I only got the Iwata last week and got a fantastic deal on it, I paid £175 for the TR-1 with the moisture trap, I also got a spare moisture trap, an airbrush stand, 3 different Tamiya masking tapes and dispensers, a hose, a battery operated paint mixer and a pot of lube. Great friendly service and I'll be returning to the same place for any future purchases of airbrush equipment. I use a large compressor, usually without a moisture trap on the badger and this has never given me any issues in regards to model painting.

RE: What's your favoured Dremel-like tool?
I have been using the rotorcraft one and I'm not too impressed with it, it vibrates because it's slightly off centre and that seems to be a common problem as I had replaced it in the past due to this. I'll get myself a Dremel or proxxon next time.

RE: Ordered first TAMIYA Tank
Personally I'd like to hear about any tank build be it RC or Static because the principles behind painting. weathering, detailing are the same across the board whether it moves or not, so these techniques can be useful for all.

RE: Decisions, decisions
I ordered a Trumpeter T-34 85 Static model yesterday, also a Static 1/35 Cromwell with detail set and a 1/24 Stuka, just to keep me busy in the new year and later in the year I'll get myself a 1:6 Stug from RC Armory or possibly the spearhead one depending on which is the better value for money and of course which one will be the most satisfying to own. RC Armory are doing the Stug III which is also my favourite variant. So I have this Christmas sorted with the statics and next years covered with the Stug [8|]

RE: Forum needs some new life------
It's a nice idea BIGMIG and would add the variety needed to stop the forum from going round in circles, maybe it could be renamed to RC Military ground vehicles to encourage this posting of more varied topics.

RE: wacky's WSN T-34/85 project
Excellent stuff there Wacky. I am so tempted with one of these tanks myself, how do they compare with the static ones where the detail is concerned, from the pictures I got off google the static models look very highly detailed inside and out, is that just what people have done with upgrades etc or are they really that much different ? Reason I ask is the temptation of RC'ing the static model in some form and the viability of it.

lol, shields were certainly needed then [X(] Thanks for the info again Bill, I'll put that on my list. I'm in the middle of painting 100 1:72 scale German and British infantry for a diorama I'm making for Christmas for my son, it's my first try at this so fingers crossed, I'm pretty sure I'll be able to make a battlefield convincing enough for him, he's not that fussy, it's gotta be better than a carpet [8|]

RE: Bulldog Progress
Sorry, crossed posts. The paint should be available everywhere, it's just ordinary artists oil paint from a tube. Not that artists are ordinary, it's the paint I am referring to [X(] I think it comes partially mixed with linseed oil in the tubes so it's the natural liquid for thinning.

RE: Bulldog Progress
Thanks again for the comments chaps, That's wonderful Bill, I'll sort out the mufflers when I do the next coat of paint. The only pics that come up on google of this tank are the ones from museums so that's all I had to go on. I had the rust colours all ready to put on but I didn't want to risk looking silly and overdoing it if there was no need. As you say they rusted so fast I'll most definately get them sorted out as I do prefer the rusted look. Thanks again that's fantastic info.[;)]

RE: Bulldog Progress
Thanks chaps, Pattoncommander, the paint that's taking so long is oil (W&N) and linseed oil. It's just about dry now but I wouldn't risk another coat for at least another 2 weeks, if I do change my stance on that, going by the slow process so far. The worse problem was dust, leaving sticky paint for so long meant the inevitable would happen, I was thinking of building some kind of drying box with chicken wire on the bottom so it could be stood over a heat source. I have rust all, but of all the pictures I came across of real 41's I could not see any rust on the shields, the only pics that did have it were of models so I opted for the none rusted look just to be safe. I have no books on the Bulldog so pictures were limited to google etc.

Bulldog Progress
Hi, Just thought I should upload some pictures of the progress on the HL WB. There's a few bits still needed but I don't really want to spend out on this model, like the HL Tiger I used it for a bit of a practice and it took so long to dry I said to myself there's no way I'm putting another coat of paint on there, even now after two weeks it's still not fully cured.

I have it too, some really great pictures, not enough text for my liking, I'd have preferred a more balanced approach. I don't know enough about the accuracy of the illustrated pictures to really comment but it gave me a lot of inspiration and plans for plenty of future Tiger builds. PapaIron

RE: Drying time on filters ?
ORIGINAL: wackywheelz oil based filter? is this a final coat, or is it a colour coat? Forgive my ignorance, I am but a peasant [:)]
It's pretty much a final 5 coats from what I can understand. The idea is the mixture of the linseed oil and oil colours/colors will give a built up opaque finish giving depth to the paintwork. I got the know how from a military vehicle painting article somewhere, it did say you could use white spirit mixed 1/1 with the linseed oil to give a more matt finish and I tried this also but the drying times are not much better to be honest. As you say hdbeast, it's most likely the plastics lack of penatration which is delaying things somewhat and most likely I'll just have to wait for it to dry up. Someone else may be able to confirm this but I certainly haven't read it on this forum before so it's a long shot.
