RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B
I was told the same thing extend the motor wires not the battery wires but as you can see I didn't listen and my set up worked well for me. I guess you have to like flying this sort of plane to enjoy flying it just not my cup of tea sets in the garage collecting dust most the time after Sundays flight I took the motor and speed controller out and hung it back up to collect more dust if anyone in the Sacramento area that might want to trade it for a ep warbird type pm me.

Junkjet, Thanks for recommending the FI 156 Storch I really love the plane its fun to fly and turns the heads at the field . I was not able to find a kit small enough for EP power had to go with one from Bob Holman plans. 48" wing spawn just the right size for what I like to fly.

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B
Hello Georgee Grats on the madian and I agree it is a nice electric plane. I see you made the same mistake as I did you put your decals on upside down. The single point of the star faces forward and up. Now there was no excuse for me as I served 6 years in the Airforce and own over 30 warbirds. Only thing I can blame it on is Papajeff he made such a nice pitch for the plane I had to run ont buy one put it togeather over night and was in such a hurry to finish it I put my decals on upside down. Im sure the same thing is true for you so it not shame on me and you its shame on Papajeff. Glad to see there is another gas guy flying an electric plane I used to fly gas 100% till I got a parkzone typhoon for Xmas one year and it hooked me I now have 30 electric and 2 gas. I have found it to be true there are 2 kinds of pilots those who fly electric and spend the day flying and those who fly gas and spend the day working on and tuning there engines. Anyways good luck with all your flying and remember to put the point up and forward. :)

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B
Hello guys need some help. I'm fortunate to work for a company that give out to its employees a $250.00 American Express card for Perfect attendance for a year which I did last year. Now my question is I always need just 1 more War Bird but having a problem finding one. Looking for one that can be EP powered with nothing bigger then a .25 and with a wing spawn of 42 - 48 inches. And I want to stay in the 3 cell lipo battery range. Wanting a War Bird I don't already have is the problem here is what I alredy have 1. Corsair x 3 2. P-47 x3 3. P-40 4. A-26 5. P-38 6. P-51 x 2 7. ME 109 8. FW 190 9. Stuka 10. A6M Zero x2 11. Predator 12. U2 13. AT6 14. T-28 15. Cub 16. Bird Dog 17. Spitfire x 2 Looking for ARF or kit I would like to find a F4F , F6F , F8F or a Dauntless SBD but what I have found are either to big or to small. If any one knows of one of these planes or any other War Bird not listed in the 42-48 WS area please let me know. O and I'm only looking for prop driven plane. Thanks for any help Dave

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B
Ch1. Throttle Ch2. Rudder Ch3. Elevator Ch4. Ailerons Not in that order but that are the 4 Ch. needed to fly the Predator. Typically a 3 Ch plane doen't have Ailerons and a 4 Ch does.

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B
If a GWS slowstick is the only plane you have flown my answer would be no. I fly both the GWS slowstick and the Predator and they fly nothing alike. 15oz extra weight would not be a problem as long as you balanced it after adding the camera. The predator has a nasty tip stall if you fly it to slow and stall it so on landings you need to keep some throttle to maintain speed. Check out Hobby Lobby they have a few glider trainers.

RE: .25 sized Great Planes P-40 Warhawk GP/EP ARF
For those running electric power and taking off on hard surface it is a very easy plane to ground control I ease on the throttle little at a time slowly building up speed take up about 200 feet of runway and lift off ever so slow to get a good looking scale take off and running a 2100 mah battery with throttle control have my timer set for 12 min and have never went dead stick. I only use single rate try to keep it as close to scale as I can nothing worse to me then a warbird making 3d turns. It is close to the same as the Great Planes combat Corsair the p-40 is not as heavy making it faster over all I like the corsair better but the P-40 is by all means a nice plane.

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B
Hello Georgee, Don't know what the others did on there build but I put no thrust angle in mine mounted it flat up aginst the fire wall and used a 200 watt motor and all that was needed on first flight was 2 clicks right aileron. And like the others I had to add about a 1" spacer between the motor and fire wall to get the cowl to fix right.

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B
Junkjet, Not all speed controlers are the same but most when using 3c lipo will handel 4 servos just fine. I use jeti and castle speed controlers and they handle 5 servos with np.

RE: .25 sized Great Planes P-40 Warhawk GP/EP ARF
Well finished the plane last night followed the instruction manual and every thing went together like it said. Wing halfs fit fine tail section fit like it should. I used hitec HS-81MG servos all around had to make a little notch for the wires to fit in outher then that they slipped right in. I powered my P-40 with the Rimfire 35-30-1450 and a Greatplanes 45amp speed controler. This set up gave me more then enough power. The maiden flight was perfect had to give 2 clicks down and 4 clicks left aileron. The plane is a great little plane flys well loops and rolls like scale and easy to land. I for one am sure glad Great planes jumped on the band wagon with these great EP warbirds.

RE: How many have used HobbyCity.com?
I used to buy form them but not anymore. I bought 5 lipo batteries last year and after about 3 flight the batteries puffed. 3c 2100mah. Well I was told that that had fixed the problem this year so I ordered 2 batteries 3c 2500mah and when I got them they looked good and past all test came in cold with good punch. I needed some smaller batteries so I ordered 4 3c 1500mah and when I got them 1 had a dead cell I contacted Hobbycity and was told to send the battery back well I had already paid $22.95 for the battery and now it was going to cost me $15.00 to send a battey back that if they had any quality control at all would have seen the dead cell before they sent it out. I fly all electric made 701 flight this year and will not buy another battery from these guys again. I found a place in the US that sells Hecell for almost the same price and there batterys have better punch and dont swell and a lot better customer service.

I got one should be finished tomorrow or the next day will post pictures when I'm done only mod I made was a tail wheel and I went with the EP motor and speed controler GP recommended. I also sprayed the entire plane with dull coat didn't like the shiny ultra coat.

Jmohn, Thanks for the info I checked into the plane and liked what I saw I was able to find one for $68.00 I have a E-Flite 480 to power it and I use 3c 2100mah in most of my planes so I have batteries for it. What retracts did you put on yours?

With the stock wheels that come with the Predator an 8" prop is about the limit I tryed a 9" prop and it was too close to the ground.

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B
Chris, The problem I find with the servos on the outside is it takes away form the gliding. If you want the Predator to be a true Glider you need the servos on the inside to get the least amount of wind resistant you can get. If you plan on running power to motor most the flight then servos on the outside would be fine.

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B
Brownlab, I have a Nitromodels Spitfire EP the OD one and it is an easy build and easy to fly however if you stall it while landing it has a bad tip stall so make sure to come in with a little speed and keep the nose down right up untill your ready to flair up for the touch down. I logged over 300 flights on mine it is retired now I took the motor and electrioncs off of it to put on my Predator.

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B
Charan, Hello I would not start out with the Predator get a good Trainer type high wing slow flyer and learn to fly it well before you try sometning else. You need to know how to handle a glider well before you you try to fly the Predator. multiplex makes some nice gliders that are good for a beginner.

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B
Hello Jeff, Well not all was lost with the GWS ME 262 Warrantee on there motors suck but there planes fly even after a total crash a little epoxy and a motor move and up it went flew it 4 times today and all 4 flights were good. My son was flying the ME 262 and I Had my P-47 E-flight up and only way I could get away from him was to climb stright up and I would leave him behind then I could turn and dive up behind him. We now call the ME 262 Frankenstein. Picture 1 is the before and picture 2 is after.

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B
Jeff, Yes I did a pretest amp and watt. With the set up I have I'm using an APC pusher prop 8x6 and on the ground at full throttle it is putting out 240 watts and drawing 20 amps I'm useing a jeti 18 amp speed controler and have not ha a problem The plane will pull less amp in the air then holding it still on the ground just guessing it probably pulling 16 - 18 amps in the air at full throttle but I only use full throttle to take off the plane flys around just fine at half throttle 20 min flights are the norm and I put 1850mah back into a 2100 mah battery. And for the weather we know its not going to last much longer but for the last 2 weeks we have had temps 65-71% and no wind to speak of it looks like Sunday a strom comming in. I work swing shift so I go flying every morning from 9am - noon We have a very nice field paved runway 40 feet wide by 400 feet long and I stiil run out of runway landing my zero that is one plane I just cant seem to get the landing down. Also I fly 100% electric air planes Most all warbirds but I have a few others After todays 5 flights I have made 665 flights this year and lost 4 airplanes. The picture is of my Lipo charging Station I rotate 20 batteries and charge 4 at a time all through a smart balancer and I get on avarage 3 seasons out of each battery. As you can see in the second picture all batteries are charged in a locked brinks box I have never had a battery fire but play it safe just the same.
