RE: Electric Sledge
All done. Total Weight : 4lbs 13oz RTF with battery, sounds like a lot but probably not bad compared to a fully fueled glow. Ended up stuffing the battery in the wing I think the balance will work out ok like that. Going to fly once we get a decent day out.

Electric Sledge
So I got a good deal on a Jeff Williams sledge pre built and decided to try something different. I'm making the plane electric. Thought I would share my setup on here. The plane is waiting for rudder and elevator servos because I really want to make sure I won't need tail weight since the servos are supposed to go in the wing. I had to enlarge the motor mounting rails to make room for the motor. I made a "key" to slide and glue the motor mount into along with some tri stock just to be safe on the back side. I'm still waiting on my batteries to arrive so I won't finish it up until then. I'm kicking around trying to stuff the battery in the wing if possible. Setup Hyperion Z4020-16 Hacker 70amp ESC apc 15x8 Batteries Turnigy 3600mah 4s servos HS225 might minis The power setup is basically a shot in the dark, It is made for a slightly heavier plane so I dropped down to 4s, worst case I move up to 5s and should have plenty of power. I'll be sure to update the thread with how it goes.

I've always had a rule of thumb with the OS 1.60 to use a perry pump. Fuel draw issues will cause you a headache, make sure you mount it right and it will be a great running motor for you.

RE: GP Extra 330L Kit information
I built one last winter. As with all of great planes kits, it will go together very easy. I didn't really have any points where I was scratching my head about what to do next. The instructions are great, and the plans are well marked. Mine with a heavy sachs 5.8 and full smoke system weighed 26lbs. Not real good at 3D, but it would harrier better than I expected, it did fly like it was on rails though as far a precision stuff is concerned. If I were to do another one I would put a ZDZ 80 in it. I sold it late last flying season to someone out west and sure enough it popped on ebay a while back. Someone got a REAL steal too for the price. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6027203309&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

RE: Vinyl Graphics Problem
heat will warp vinyl very quickly. If the transfer mask has come off. You can always use wide masking tape to retape the decals and apply them. There isn't anything that special about transfer tape, it's just really wide and slightly lower tach than normal masking tape.

Intersting weights.... Mine is 16lbs 14oz on accurate scales, BME 50, lithiums, Heavy aluminum spinner, wheel pants (one with the TOC1 yak), nothing other than STOCK parts. We weighed Bryant330L's TOC1 yak w/ a BME 50, NIMHs, Basically STOCK airframe, weight nearly identical to mine bouncing +-1oz . I just can't see one weighing 18lbs with a BME 50 and similar setup.

RE: HITECH SERVOS
I have alot of 645MG servos, they're nice and solid. IMO out of the 10 or so I have none what so ever have centering issues. The old 605s, yes I've seen centering issues, but not the 645s I have. I've witnessed 5945s going nuts (one nearly burned a plane to the ground!!!), I personally wouldn't have that particular model, but alot of people have good luck with them. I use my analog hitecs with confidence though.
ORIGINAL: snowmaker WELL, THANKS FOR THE INFO. In the spirit of keeping the price down, I was just wondering if I had to go digital. BTW, Did you use one 645 on the wing or two?
Just one. Hitec used to (still might) make a 945MG which has more torque than the 645, but I think for the price you can get a digital like the 5645 for the same price or less.

RE: KMP/eBay YAK-54 Build and Fly
I'm going to get on my soap box here, but I think for the most part people use servos with alot more torque than they actually need. These 645s I'm using came off of my 33% great planes extra, I didn't fly it alot, but the times I did it was plenty to 3D it. (2 on the ailerons of course). As far as speed they aren't quite as fast as I would like them to be but for the price they work great. Bryant330L would be a great one to chime in here, he has used Digitals and Analogs on the same plane multiple times, I believe his TOC 1 yak was one he's went back and forth on, for the most part there wasn't any huge difference. I'm no IMAC flyer, I bought this plane for 3D, but in my 3 flights I've tried most every 3D move in the book with it, and the servos work just great. I'll try and get you guys some video one of these nights. I don't guess I realized there aren't many of these flying yet?

Here's my setup for anyone wondering: BME-50 w/ NX 22x8 / Hangar 9 mount 645MGs all around + 5735MG on the rudder 2800 lithium ion on RX, 1200 lithium on ignition Total dry weight 16lbs 14oz Here's some pics with the plane finished.

RE: KMP/eBay YAK-54 Build and Fly
I finally got some more work in on the yak tonight. This was the first time I slipped the stabs on, to my surprise they did NOT need the mod to allow more rudder throw. I guess somewhere along the line they fixed that issue. I'm going to end up putting a BME 50 on this one.

Got my yak last night. I'm happy with it. It's better than I expected for sure. My cowl has some cracks in it here and there, but the ad clearly states that on ebay. It came with more hardware than I thought also. I didn't expect a pull pull kit or tail wheel. Looking forward to building it

RE: OFFICIAL JOE NALL 2005 THREAD. POST YOUR PICS, COMMENTS AND LINKS TO VIDEOS
I'll have to say the frequency scanner was really cool. They hit the nail on the head with an affordable idiot proof product. Another surprise from Great Planes was the 1/3 scale cap, everybody seemed to pretty much write it off because of the weight, well don't. It's every bit as 3D capable as hangar 9s arfs. Lots of great stuff at Nall, this was my first time, to much to mention.

count me in as another one interested. My shockflyer is composed of more glue and tape than foam at this point. RE: Foam Wings HELP !!!!!
they're both very very similar, I've noticed a slight difference when they expand and harden. If you could secure both the wing and wingtube while the glue expanded and dried completely I don't see why the glue method wouldn't work.

RE: How do you start your gas engine?
It's on a Great Planes 33% 330L, 26lbs but still pulls out of a hover well, it's a strong motor. I've started it 10-15 times since then, once I got the timing fixed it's been fine.

RE: How do you start your gas engine?
My sachs 5.8 smacked my fingers hard last month. Timing issue, but it sent the 26x10 CF prop deep into my ring and middle finger. I didn't feel it fingers went numb instantly, but the sound it make was enough to make you sick. Almost went to the ER to get some stitches, but it wasn't as bad as I thought at first. All healed up now. From now on I've been using a GLOVE and not wrapping my fingers around the prop, still spooked by these things now.

RE: Extra 260 build and fly review
Here are some pics of Bryant330L's plane, didn't get many in the air shots. I got some stick time on it too. BME 100 was loads of power on this one, nice combination. The roll rate is very quick. Like Bryant330l said it's a very crisp and clean flying plane. This would be an excellent plane for precision flying. Wingtip spins were almost violent :). As far as 3D type stuff it settled into a nice harrier with little to no effort to hold steady. Once the plane was in a torque roll it held very easy, the rudder is very effective when the plane is stalled from what I could tell, making it easy to stand back up if you get over to far. Parachutes like bryant330l said, don't really bring the nose of the plane up, I even got a bit of a dropped wing. Overall I liked it.
