RE: TKO build thread
The plane is finished, I have not flown her yet. I had a pretty bad car accident almost two years ago, and haven't been flying since. However I have been working on a few thimgs, and plan on getting back into it in the spring.

I was thinking a 1/16" ply doubler for the front half of the fuse similar to a Killer Kaos.

RE: Killer Chaos 60 engine
I flew one for several years with a ST 91 on it, no issues with landing speed. The big thick airfoil takes care of that.

RE: Deception
Goal number 1 is stay light, goal number 2 keep it simple. I don't want to over complicate this, as the Deception is a relatively simple airframe to begin with. Once I send out the final plans, you can do yours however you want to. LOL I would love to hear about anyone who goes the composite route and saves a ton of weight.

RE: Dirty Birdy Build Thread
The only problem I see with Cees picture is that the wheel will be behind the leading edge when extended. Given the swept leading edge on the DB it will accentuate the nose over issue.

RE: Deception
The dimensions are exactly as shown on the original plan, no changes were made to the airframe other than the built up wing and stab. The intent with the tail is the lightening holes will be in 1/4" balsa sheeted with 1/8" contest grade on either side, so it could still be done in either iron on or paint if you so choose. My last two deceptions came out around 8.5 lbs, so what I am aiming for is an all up weight of around 7 lbs here, if it’s a tad heavier it should still be a great flying bird. The only real difference between the two drawings is the canopy. I prefer to build all balsa wings these days, I am not saying one is better than the other; it’s just my personal preference. I am leaning towards the second drawing at the moment. Although I could see giving it a new name, I have a hard time justifying that, as the airframe is identical to the original. I would be glad to give anyone a copy of the plans, just shoot me a PM and let me know what format you want them in and what e-mail address to send them too.

Deception
So, I have my plans done, and am waiting to hear back on laser cutting prices, so I was playing around a little bit and I can't decide which I like better. Tell me what you think. I can see the argument of it doesn't look like the original and I can see the argument the second one looks sexier. LOL I might have to do one of each.

RE: Dirty Birdy Build Thread
I have flown many tail draggers and P 51's over the years, never had nose over issues with them. The DB was another animal all together, you really had to be lively on the stick to prevent nose over’s. That being said my wheel location is very similar to yours. Although I made my mods on a foam wing, I too am skeptical as to your spar mods for the wheel well, I think Cees has a great compromise that will give you peace of mind, and it doesn't look like a lot of extra work to do the mod. Weight gain would be very minimal. In the end its your bird and your choice, but I don't think it would be worth loosing it after all the hard work put into it.

RE: Dirty Birdy Build Thread
I built a DB a couple of years ago that was set up as a tail dragger, although it flew great, it was a bear to keep from nosing over on take offs and landings. I went through a lot of props and had to patch the nose quite often. I would recommend going with trike retracts. Or fixed gear well ahead of the leading edge. Mine had the gear about 1.5" in front of the leading edge with the gear extended. It’s doable, but I would be money that you will get frustrated and move on to other birds, I know I did. However I am planning to build a new one this winter with trike retracts. Of the three I have had (2 trike one TD) the trike geared models were much more enjoyable on the ground. I still have the TD DB it makes great decoration hanging in the basement. LOL. I decided to go with the TD to save a little weight, but trust me it’s not worth the frustration!!!! Just my 2 cents. I wish you better luck than I had if you decide to proceed with the TD set up.

RE: Watcha building this winter??
I plotted hem from the info on the plans. I would be willing to share. Currently I have a file sent out to a laser cutter for a quote on cutting the parts. Once they have verified that files are usable for this purpose, I will be sending out the plans, tp those who want a copy. Just drop me a pm with your email saying you want a copy, and I will send them when the files are verified.

RE: Superception- what were the modifications?
I drew the fuse exactly as they are shown on the plans. I did notice the engine mount interference issue. I was planning one sheet sides and triangular stock at the corners. This was a first pass at the drawings, as such the only difference, at this point, between the standard Deception and this drawing is the incorporation of the built up wing and stab. I want to go over the fuse and see if I can come up with any other areas that could lighten things up. I was thinking of doing the vertical stab in 1/4" sheet with lightening holes and then sheet that with 1/8" on either side. Maybe some light weight contest balsa for the top and bottom fuse sheeting. Just a few ideas I am kicking around at this point. If anyone else has any ideas, please tell me. I am open to anything that will make this bird fly better. I do kind of like the idea of anhedral in the stab, I always thought that looked great on these ballistic birds.

I did find something I missed. The false ribs for the landing gear. I figure it should come in a good bit lighter than the foam core version.

RE: Superception- what were the modifications?
This thread inspired me to finish up the drawing. I got the main drawing done, now I am going to break out all the individual parts that need to be cut. My intent is to have as much as I can laser cut for me. Let me know what you think, or if you see anything I missed. I am tempted to build two of these one stock as per this drawing and one with the anhedral and tail mods described in the thread.

Thanks guys. The St 61 is a SE. New old stock, not even broken in yet. I will be glad to send out the plans when they are all done, I will warn you the are drawn in Visio (MS office). After a lot of thought I think I am going to stick with the Kaos stab, as I want it to fly like a Kaos, at least until I get back into it for a while, I have a couple of other birds ready to go, but I don't want to fly them until I feel confident again.

RE: KAOS AND RELATED PLANES AND INFO
I think I am going to put my Supertiger 61 x in it. The Alpha looks a lot like Bridi's UFO. Only not quite as sexy. LOL The drawing is basicly a Super Kaos with a UFO, like tail on it. I also added a canopy from Wing MFG. I am toying with the Idea of using a Dirty Birdi stab on it, to help reduce the classic Kaos tail wag. Any thoughts?
