RE: Redesign and reconstruction of the Oldest Taurus on Earth
It still looks like the already built and flying Simla's are way more acurate. LOL

The E-Flights drop right in the nose gear block with no mods, the main gear fits nicely as well, however you will need to remove the plasic liner below the main body of the retract in order to allow the to sit flat.

You mentioned that there were other Simla airframes in the past. I was waiting for you to post the pictures of these other airframes.

I could use two of those headers, I have two NOS engines that I picked up cheap on the bay a couple of years ago, would love to use them. Let me know what it would cost.

So you are building a Flop ( Taurus 1) now? What about the other Simla airframes you are refering too? I wwould love to see the other variants of this bird.

RE: Redesign and reconstruction of the Oldest Taurus on Earth
So Ed called all of these models the Taurus? If so maybe they should be designated 1 through 10 or however many there were, similar to What Don Lowe did with the Pheonix. Didn't someone already redo the Simla ?

RE: Bridi Super Kaos Build
I spoke with Joe on the phone several years ago about this very issue. His suggestion was to make it a tail-dragger, for two reasons, ground clearance and allowing for enough room in the nose section for the fuel tank. He stated the only reason that the original was a trike, is that at the time it was designed, the taxi, take off and landings were graded as part of the flight. That being said I have had four SK and several of the other flavors. Of those only one had retracts and I have followed Joes suggestion. After flying it both ways I would save the effort of installing retracts for a Dirty Birdy or UFO, as you don’t gain a lot as far as performance on the KAOS. Just my two cents. On another note the mods to the GP/TH versions of this bird were to tame out the 40 sized SK, the smaller version had a bad tendency to snap at slow speeds. Ask me how I know. LOL

Build a Dirty Birdy, with the engine mounted sideways and the pipe running above the wing saddle, works out perfect with a ST series X.

RE: Redesign and reconstruction of the Oldest Taurus on Earth
I am going by the title of this thread. So let me get this straight Ed desinged the Taurus and we have an early picture of him holding a plane called the Taurus. So the one in this picture could be called the Taurus 1 and the one we all know and recognize would actually be the Taurus 2 or maybe 3. So the problem is the title of this thread is misleading ?

RE: My new project
It is a 60 size bird with a 70 " wing span, it was originally published in RCM, in 78 I believe. It has foam cores available from eureka. I am talking to Don at Eureka about cutting it for me, so a short kit may be available soon, well as soon as I get the templates ready for him. LOL It does look like it has great performance potential. I will wait to see what my schedule looks like before I commit to a build thread. LOL Here is a link to the original build article. http://www.trentonrcflyers.com/pattern/articles/revenger-5-19-78.pdf

My new project
This is going to be my winter project this year. I remember seeing the article years ago and I always wanted one. I haven't decided if I am going to build the original size or scale it up a little for maybe an OS 140 RX. What do you think ?

RE: H-9 Phoenix 7 build note! mis-print!!
I had the same problem with my nose gear. Horizon sent me a replacement unit, and it happened again. I scraped the whit coating off gently with an exacto, be careful as there are some surface mounted capacitors under there. After reattaching the leads with solder, I caped the end with a mixing stick and some CA, I them filled the space in-between with some plumber’s goo and removed the mixing stick, this seemed to resolve the issue. As to what caused the problem with the nose gear and not the mains, I suspect the steering cables may be rubbing the end as the unit retracts.

RE: H-9 Phoenix 7 build note! mis-print!!
Could be. At first I thought it was a gift from said pattern gods, to allow me to fly a nice pattern ship, while completing the other ships I'm working on. This thing has been beating me up from the word go. But I have another new wing on the way, they told me to keep the original and the new one that arrived today. I may end up buying a fuse and stab, and redoing one in a different color scheme. LOL

RE: H-9 Phoenix 7 build note! mis-print!!
I received my new wing today, but UPS did a wonderful job of crunching it. The leading edge sheeting on the last three bays is pretty well trashed. Ed, I am using 7.4v Lithium with a voltage regulator. It has plenty of juice, and I only need to charge once a month. I am in the process of switching all of my packs over. Let me know if you have any other questions, I'll be glad to help.

RE: H-9 Phoenix 7 build note! mis-print!!
Horizon is sending me a new wing, they determined from the pictures that the glue did not adhere to the surrounding structure, thus causing the failure of the gear mount. I will add some epoxy to the mounts on the new wing when it arrives.
