Mojo 40 Electric Motor - Need your suggestions!
I am trying to figure out an inexpensive way to power my Mojo 40 for 3D flying. I have two battery choices: 6S 2200 or 4S 4000. I have a 60A ESC. The motor I had on it fried on the last flight. It was a 750kV Turnigy motor that they apparently don't make anymore. This is for my 6-year-old, so buying a nice power system is probably not a good idea since this is going to be his 3D trainer. Any affordable suggestions??

RE: Can someone help identify this plane please?
ORIGINAL: Taz_Hobbies
ORIGINAL: zacharyR the issue is your asking a dumb question... basically its a none name brand profile everyone who knows anything knows that and its also irrelevant but there is a lot of people whom come along and offer up speculation clear speculation because they have no clue what they are talking about but they throw out miss information and they throw it out in a format that state's the information as factual ... and that's what pisses off fellow rcu bloggers is the bullshit miss information so don't get on the guy he's in the right ...
I am asking a dumb question? Really? Dumb? It's a ''none'' brand ? What the hell kind of brand is that? Try no name brand. And how the hell do you know that? Irrelevant? To who, you? Who gives a damn what you think? Now you too are throwing out ''miss information''... Who cares what pisses you or anyone else off? This was my question in my thread. It's my God Damn plane and I was interested in finding a little more about it. It's people like you ZacharyR who have an opinion on eveything, yet can't spell and can barely form a sentence that make forums so damn hard to find enjoyable. And somehow, in my irrelevant post, you felt the need to comment? I'll bet I have underwear older than you...
It wasn't a dumb question to ask what plane it was. I can't believe RCU has come to this, where a fellow R/C enthusiast can't ask the RCU community for a little help without being publicly insulted just for asking. Maybe it's time to head elsewhere. This is worse than Facebook. Anyway Taz, best of luck with the rebuild. Not sure when people in this hobby became so unfriendly, but I'm glad I don't fly with them. Take care.

RE: Tower Hobbies Razor 3D
This is a re-make of the Lanier Razor 3D that was discontinued about five years ago. It had a neat elevator bellcrank/control horn design, but this one does not appear to have that.

RE: Ultra R/C 29% Giles 202, in ICU
EEEEEEEEEEK!!!! You took the beautiful covering off my plane!!!! =) To answer the mystery of what happened to this poor beast, and risk damaging my reputation even more, here's what I did: I had two Giles 202's programmed into my radio. One was this was, which was named "G202" and the other was "WH G202". One night while tinkering with the programming, I inadvertently reversed the ailerons for the former, thinking I was working on the other one. That was error #1. Somehow, when doing my pre-flight and seeing that the ailerons were moving, I did not catch that they were moving the wrong way. Taking off on high rates, it immediately rolled into the ground. This plane had so many flights on it before this that it felt like I had gotten my money's worth out of the airframe, but now that they stopped making them, it seems like it's more valuable. The plane had a 40cc swinging a Xoar 20X8 prop and had insane vertical since it only weighed a hair over 11 lbs. It'll be worth it if you can restore it. I promise, from this day forward, my pre-flights will be second to none.

Damaged Power Expander Sport
My power expander sport was damaged in a crash, bending several of the connector pins on one side of the unit. I could straighten them and . Is it worth sending in to have it repaired or should I just replace it? I know the basic check-up is $15, but do you think the total cost would be likely to exceed $50 if there is no other damage in addition to the bent pins? If so, there's no point in fixing it. I can attach a picture if that would help. -Pat

RE: Control Horn Failures - Beware
It could be from cinching the screws/nuts down too tight on the ball. In fact, they shouldn't be tight at all, really, just tight enough that there is no slop. The locknut will hold them in. The heads on those screws are countersink heads, and if they go just a bit too far, they'll be pushing out on the pan of the horn, trying to expand it, and could cause a crack that way. Just a theory. -Pat

RE: Excellent service @ Cactus Aviation!
I would have happily included an RMA number, but Bobby wouldn't take my calls, respond to voicemails, or respond to emails. When I initially did get him on the phone, he told me to send it to him, and then told me later he would refund the money. I never ordered the engine he sent me in the first place. It's all covered in the other thread. I don't want to hijack this one. I'm glad the original poster had such good luck with Cactus, and I hope they are turning over a new leaf. I'm soured for life, unfortunately. The good Lord says I must forgive, but he doesn't say I have to forget. -Pat

RE: Excellent service @ Cactus Aviation!
Maybe they are turning things around over there, then. I am still out over $200 because of Bobby at Cactus Aviation. I won't go into all the dirty details again, but he is a thief and lacks integrity. I won't buy anything else from 3W again. Gerhard over at Aircraft International is a little gruff on the phone, but he does great work on the engines. However, it's expensive. No offense intended to others at Cactus who may be decent people, but Bobby is NOT a good guy. **EDIT - I went back and found the thread, and it was more like $180 that I lost: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_8255033/anchors_8255033/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#8255033

RE: The Tango 40 ARF from Hangar 9
I was recently given a Tango from a friend of mine who decided it just was not his type of plane. He actually gave it to my 5-year-old son, not me, but I had to get it set up to fly. We put a K&B .45 on it along with servos that are worth more than the airframe, (it's all I had on hand!). I was expecting a real handful, but it flew great. We have it slightly noseheavy based on the way it flies, but my little guy really liked it. He was too afraid to try take-offs or landings, but he flew it for about 8 minutes without my help and was being pretty adventurous with the rolls and loops. Overall, I think it is a pretty fun sport plane. Not enough power to hover with our engine set-up, but it seems like it could do it with a little more power.

RE: News and products 2. New planes coming!
Tom, any plans to have a new 85-100cc plane anytime soon? I am still flying a 40% Giles and it's the best, (blue/yellow scheme) but at some point I'm going to need something new. Just wondering if you're thinking about getting back into that part of the market again. -Pat

RE: Nitro Models Cessna 421C build and fan page
Flyin Beagle - The problem that I have seen is that, once you slow down during your final approach, your rudder becomes less and less effective and the pull of that still going engine can cause enough yaw to put you into a spin. If you keep the speed up as you descend, it's not as much of an issue. The problem occurs once you slow it down. If you keep the throttle at or near full on the good engine and you're keeping it level or slowly descending, you are more likely to have enough speed to keep it straight. You can do some testing with it and I think you'll see what I mean, but keep in mind that the simulators don't realistically depict spins in most planes. I recommend an all or nothing approach with the one engine to keep the speed up until you're ready to deadstick it in. Ideally, though, you will never have to worry about it because both of your engines will be running great, right?

RE: Nitro Models Cessna 421C build and fan page
Flyin' Beagle and Ioneri - I think this is just as good for a first twin as the next, as long as you understand that if an engine goes out, it's all or nothing on the throttle. Keep it flying fast and use that rudder to counteract the lack of thrust on one side. Always keep the running engine full throttle until you are ready to glide. If you get slow and have more than a few clicks, you're looking at a spin for sure. The simulators don't really illustrate the propensity for a spin. Don't try to fly it with 25's. I used K&B .45's and they were enough, but barely. I recommend strong .40's at least, and that does not give you much wiggle room. -Pat
