RE: Oil content - gasoline vs. glow engines
Exactly. Besides, all gas engines also have bearings on the conrod, which in turn reduces the need for lubricating film.

RE: OS 4stroke engine: Will it run with castor?
I run all my engines (2S/4S) on a similar fuel mix, 20/80, and they all like it. Using synthetic as part of the total oil content wil make the engines rev a little more, say around 200~400rpm. Don't worry, just fly [;)]

RE: CRRC PRO GF26I
Thanks for your inputs guys. Yes it is the black crankcase version (glow style crankcase). Pascual I'll give it some more run time, it only has around 20 minutes of run time.

RE: CRRC PRO GF26I
Guys, I bought a GF26i V2 last week, and I'm finding it extremely hard to hand start. Fires somewhat ok with the electric starter, idles and throttles well, but other than that, it's a pig! I can't even hand start it after immediate shutdown. The low speed needle is roughly set between both sagging points and the HSN is still set to factory specs. I get good spark on the plug outside and have set the gap to around 0.8mm. Fuel is 25:1 95 octane/synth mix and prop a 16x8. Is this a sign of a faulty ignition? The carb seems to be pumping well, it's a WT 793. Thanks for your input ;)

RE: Homebrew ignition?
The coil is a regular TCI/non-CDI automotive coil. The smaller ones available are motorcycle coils. Good luck! ;)

Simply put :easy starters, user friendly, sound awesome! Not very powerfull, maybe equivalent to a modern 45 4-stroke, but swing large props. Did I mentioned they sound awesome?[:D] (quickly runs to the garage to pick the FS-60 from the box and fire it)

RE: Unusual request - educational application
BTW, those test benches seem to be run on either glow fuel or model diesel fuel, not biodiesel exactly, althtough Ken Enya may advise you best. A good source for real diesels would be small industrial engines, like the single cylinder series from Yanmar and its clones. I have one of the clones (Yanmar L-48 equivalent) with only 30 minutes of run time on it yet > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhmJvpNlfIM

RE: Rossi and Novarrossi engines
Sport_Pilot , Rossi is the original company, formed by the Rossi brothers. NovaRossi (literaly NewRossi) got the name after Cesare Rossi left the Rossi company. Rossi USA history page is more precise in that matter as it doesn't hide this part of its history. http://www.rossienginesusa.us/SGME/RossiEnginesUSA/AXE_Rossi.html

RE: Rossi and Novarrossi engines
My only experience is with Rossi heli engines. All I can say it that they are very high quality, high performance works of art. A Rossi on a tuned pipe is a screamer powerplant that will make your underwear change colour in no time (too visual of a description, no?).

RE: ASP 160 FS Twin questions
George, 1- Fuel with 18% oil and 10% nitro is great, 0% nitro works well on this engine too; 2- Regular 4-stroke glowplugs, like OS "F"; 3- I find it a must for a reliable idle on mine, otherwise it loose a cilinder at low rpm. I find this to be caused by the different intake tube lenght for each cylinder, giving a leaner charge to the rear cylinder, causing it to quit.

RE: Your favourite diesel
I haven't got many makes of diesels - one DC, several PAWs, MK12, 40LA. My favorites are without a doubt the PAWs, especially in 09 form. Dependent and reliable, make for great general purpose engines.

RE: F3A? Not anymore! (conversion photos)
Thanks for the tips and compliments. I have it balanced around 2cm ahead of the recommended CoG for RC use, and the plane balances a little nose heavy when hung from the lead-out wires. I think I have an 8x4 prop somewhere, but mostly RAM 8x6 ones.

F3A? Not anymore! (conversion photos)
I had this model laying around the shed for some months, a Hirobo Aries 15 F3A ship. Getting involved with C/L has given me a broader view of the hobby and how things can have multiple purposes. So, I've read several post in this sub-forum regarding RC to C/L conversions and proceeded with modifying this model. The engine is an OS 15LA, with a longer barrel stop screw to have it fully open, turning an APC 7x6 prop. Bellcrank is Brodak, if I'm not mistaken (can't recall right now), rudder is locked to the right with piano wire, ailerons taped in place at the extremeties. Hope you enjoy it! Cheers!

RE: Aldrich Nobler - different type of engine
Thanks guys! I've checked Fox Mfg. website, and the 35 stunt weighs 7 ounces, while my Saito FA-30 weighs 9 ounces. Also power wise the FA-30 seems to outperform the Fox, as they announce 10500rpm on a 10x6 prop. Thanks for enlightning me![8D]

Aldrich Nobler - different type of engine
Hello everyone! I'm considering buying an original Aldrich Nobler kit and have been thinking about changing a bit the standards by using a 4-stroke engine instead of a Fox .35. From my collection of engines, these seem to be most adequate: Saito FA-30S, Saito-45S, ASP FS52. Which one would you guys use? Cheers!

RE: Piper Cub 10e conversion
I kinda had to revive this thread. I've been working a bit today on the plane, never got to work on it since May. Landing gear is set, as are the plastic windows and decals; wing is also ready for fitting. Just need to fabricate a balsa cowl for it. The silencer has been rotated to the side, it now just clears the firewall, with a nice silicone diverter (won't hold for much time, probably). I am now considering on converting the model to C/L duty, as a scale model. I'll try to get some photos tomorrow.

RE: Modifying a c/l design [plus building photos]
The plane is ready for now, I made a sheet wing for it while I buy balsa next week to start building the other per the plan. I guess I'll leave the fuse unpainted, with only the clear coat of celulosic coat varnish.

RE: Modifying a c/l design [plus building photos]
Some photos of the progress attached. The fuselages are built, only needing to glue the hinges and the rear elevator, plus control horn and linkages. After that, is time to paint them, and build the wings.

Modifying a c/l design [plus building photos]
Hello gents! I have these plans for a .15 size trainer printed up to scale and was wondering if I can substitute the fuse for a single piece of balsa, with hard bearers for the engine, and do the same with the wing, building it as a single piece of balsa, cut to shape. It will be powered by a PAW 15 TBR. Building notes here. Thanks for your input!

RE: Modifying a c/l design [plus building photos]
I am building both versions, one as per the plan, but with the fuse covered in 2mm balsa strip. The second fuse is one piece of 10mm balsa, with 15cm long hard pine engine bearers, then covered with 1.5mm ply on both sides. As of now, this solid fuse is lighter than the built-up one.

RE: ASP FS61FSAR Four Stroke Glow Engine
Kosta, I bake the engines at 200ºC~230ºC. The colour fades/changes a bit, but won't chip off. At the end they look like Irvines.
