RE: Aquacraft Mini Rio - Brushless
Here is video of my ex Mini Rio that my brother in law modified with cheap brushless system. Speed is quite nice, but that hull is just not designed for high speed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7B97X8We9Ws Speed is almost same as my Offshore Warrior. It is also very difficult to adjust the COG with small and shallow hull like Mini Rio... Not possible to move components more than fem millimeters :-D

RE: HK Small Bolt Hydro same as HOTR
Hi! Just to inform you, that long runs with 4s will fry the original motor (if you use 30mm prop). Might work better if you replace original drive hardware as it seems to have some extra friction. I ran my Small bolt with original motor and 4s 4-5 times. Last run was continous full speed run and the motor died (motor cables fried :-O ) after few minutes. Good speed but didn't last that long :-) 4200kV outrunner went nice... As long as I fried it with Octura 34mm prop.... 5000kv on 2S worked well for 30s.... So three fried motors with one Small Bolt... Record maybe? I'll have to figure out something new for next summer.... I have Turnigy 2040 size inrunner, with 4850kV, but didn't have time to really test it. Went ok for short bursts with 2s.

RE: Small motor/flex coupler 2,3mm->0.098 ?
Hmm... That is good idea to use Loctite to secure the coupler to motor shaft :-) It seems that I can find 1/8" tube from Finland, so I will use that and some loctite to connect my Octura coupler to the motor shaft.

RE: Small motor/flex coupler 2,3mm->0.098 ?
ORIGINAL: coriolan Are you using a 4mm tread prop? If you do http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/products.php?cat=Flex+Cables has a stub shaft with .098 cable to fit that M4 but you might have to modify the strut
I'm using 1/8" props (1.4x30mm and like). In my mini hydro (Small Bolt from HobbyKing) the original flex is 4mm that is connected to 1/8" shaft that has larger diameter head for this flex connection I'll try to make some kind of sleeve for my octura 1/8->0,098" coupler. I hope that I can find some suitable material locallu. Ordering only some thinn bras tube from OSE seems bit too expencive :-/

RE: Small motor/flex coupler 2,3mm->0.098 ?
Hmm... I think that I'll try that brass sleeve. Yeah everything here is metric so it seems that I need to make another order to OSE again.... :-) So outer diameter is 1/8 and inner diameter is very close to 2,3mm in that brass tubing? Planning to use small outrunners 4200-5000kv on 2s. 4200kv on 2s worked well, but my 4mm (with square end to fit 1/8 drive shaft end) flex shaft is rubbish and it seems to have lot of friction and poorly balanced.

Small motor/flex coupler 2,3mm->0.098 ?
Seems to be very difficult to find coupler for my mini hydro. Motor output shaft is ~2,3mm and Octura flex cable is 0.098" This seems to be the smallest Octura? http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/proddetail.php?prod=oct-ocfhe18098

RE: HOR 28
So what do you think, is 28x68mm 1539kV inrunner on 6s suitable for that hull? BACKEMF, I will consider your offer... You are sure you will post it to Europe?

HOR 28" Shovel nose hydro?
Hello! I didin't find much conserning this 28" shovel nose hydro hull from Head of the River. Any experience from it? I have one 28x68mm sized 1539kV inrunner and Seaking 60A ESC from my experiments with Jollymotor and I'd like to find some interesting hull to place them in to. Would these be enaugh for nice speeds (6s setup)? And what hardware kit would you recommend from HOR? 3/8" or 4mm strut and off-set rudder?

RE: Good brushless ESC for...
You can find the same ESC under Seaking brand. I have both and they are identical exept labels. This ESC might be bit large for some very small hull. Quite tight fit in my mini hydro. I don't have any clue if you can find these from some real store.. I only shop online. My friend used cheapo Mystery 30A ESC with good succes in his Mini Rio even without water cooling. You could try to use some 30-60A ESC without cooling, it would be very slim and easy to fit inside. Something like this: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.13028 This would be nice motor: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.12829 Works great in Mini Rio and in my "Small Bolt" mini hydro. ps. 2100kV on 2S is quite low rpm...

RE: Good brushless ESC for...
This works well in my boats. http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=7377&Product_Name=Turnigy_Marine_35A_Brushless_Boat_ESC Seems to handle well 2445 sized 3000kV motor, with Octura Y534 and 2250mAh 3s 30C.

RE: Nice entry level boat
I don't see any sense of upgrading that when you can get similar shaped brushless boat from the same manufacturer and it's made of fiberglass.. You would still use ~50 euros for the brushless parts and wouldn't get same result with the plastic boat. http://www.bidproduct.com/part/Product_list_BOAT_1.html That mini deep vee is highly recommended! Really fast and fun boat to play with, it is self rightening with suitable battery!

RE: HK Small Bolt Hydro same as HOTR
I have one cooling block from my Jollymotor, but it is ~10mm thick and that causes some problems... I'll try to find some suitable ~5mm copper, brass or aluminium tube and try if I can solder U shaped piece of that to some suitable metal plate that would go between motor and motor mount and cool the motor that way. This is how my friend cooled the motor in his Mini Rio, and it didn't fry with 32/34mm props... But he didn't run long runs with it... Bit unstable

RE: HK Small Bolt Hydro same as HOTR
Heh... I Fried my stock motor with 4s and 30mm Octura... But this was just good luck! Now I installed small cheap Mystery 2627mm 4200kV outrunner to it and used it only with 1600mAh 2s 30C battery and it flies! Works well even without water cooling and with 30mm prop! With this very light combo this boat seems to "fly" better.. Hard to explain but it seems to be much better now with this setup! Go ahead and try, these motors are cheap as dirt http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.12829 :-) I will try to install some simple cooling for the motor. My friend used that motor in his Mini Rio with 34mm Octura on 2s and it worked well :-) Next I will try this http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.12830

RE: HK Small Bolt Hydro same as HOTR
ORIGINAL: dhoyt7141
ORIGINAL: carakter Have you guys tried a 4800Kv motor . . . also available from HK?
I'm still running the stock motor, mainly because I am very pleased and satisfied with how it runs right now.
Or maybe just try with 4s batteries? 14,8V x 2604kV makes ~38500rpm :-P I used two 1250mAh 2s 30C batteries in series. Works well... Altough I have different ESC. With two batteries you can place each battery (partly?) in front sponson. In the maiden run video I placed my batteries deep in the sponsons. Having mass spread wider inside the boat should make it more stabile... ? I'm not sure where the COG should be?

RE: HOR 25
ORIGINAL: nick 30 6s i beleive will be to much and with constant fishing the boat out of the water, i run 3s in parallel and get 40k rpm's unloaded.
But 1539kV motor with 6s gives "only" ~34k rpm. So similar in that way, only lower current (hopefullu)...

RE: HOR 25
Hi! I have Dragon Hobby/Mini cat racing Jollymotor from last year that I "upgraded" during the winter... But it seems that my setup is way too powerfull and bit nose heavy for the small stepped hull.. I'm planning to put my hardware to one of these HOR 25" type hulls. Parts are: Motor 2868 sized 1539kV inrunner, Seaking 60A ESC, batteries to be used are two 2150-3300mAh 3S batteries in series. Graupner props from 36-40mm. Pair of turn fins etc. My main consern is, that can I use the straight shaft and motor mount from the Jollymotor? I'v seen that somebody has used straight shaft with these.... Or is it better idea to use stinger/strut and flex cable so the angle is adjustable? I'v got several Graupner props so I'd like to use shaft with 4mm threads.

RE: 3s vs. 6s setup? Jollymotor upgrade..
ORIGINAL: srt10 longer runtimes with lower kv motors on higher volts, and also cooler running gear
Is the motor and esc effeciency much better with higher voltage? High current will increase power loss with internal resistances, but is that difference big? If you have 5000mAh 3s/11.1V battery it will give you ~55Wh of power/energy. If you have 2500mAh 6s/22.2V battery it will give you the same amount of energy to use and the battery size (weight and dimensions) are very similar. So in that case only effeciency of the motor esc combo matters. But yes higher voltage means less current usually and that means less power loss caused by resistanses inside components and wires etc... That's why we use 230VAC here in Finland for our home apliances The information I am looking for is that, are there some significant difference in motor charecteristics between 1500kV with 22.2V and 3000kV motor with 11.1V? Torque on half throtlle, effeciency on full load etc.?
