RE: Running 2 Brushless ESCs on 1 Reciver?
The Y-cable would work: but you may find installing 2 brushless motors in an E-Maxx doesn't give you great bang-for-your-buck. A single budget motor (example) is enough to flip it over backwards if you stab the throttle, and give you top speeds that you can't sustain due to ballooning tires and the high center-of-gravity allowing the chassis to wallow all over the place. Maybe start with one brushless motor and see how it handles? Example: Look at how this Savage Flux handles with a single brushless: your E-Maxx chassis and tires aren't going to be any more composed.

RE: New redcat cars coming?
I don't need any more RC cars. I really don't need any more RC cars. But from those teaser pics I hope one of those MT images has a core that's 4wd: preferably flat-pan bottom: 1/10th scale size with a 1/8th layout. Something like an OFNA Hyper10-TT would be tasty :) . The Caldera and Volcano layouts are OK (I've got my Caldera how I want it now after some tweaks), but a chassis that wasn't such a direct descendant from an onroad car would be nice (i.e. lose all the holes in the bottom milled out for the 6-cell packs nobody is using!).

RE: Volcano EXP Pro vs. Caldera 10E
The Volcano does have more aluminum hopup parts but all the components are less beefy than on the Caldera. The core bits of the Caldera are also used on the 1/8th and 1/6th Redcat models so it comes with things like M5 driveshafts and all metal diffs (and replacements are cheap). - it's also trivial to switch to 17mm hubs if you want to run 1/8th buggy/truggy/MT tires. The 380-motor-in-finned-540 can brushless motor is a bit weak: many people swap in a cheap Tacon from HobbyPartz (but larger motors can be wedged in there too :) )

URC Review is up! And discussion is here. Budget servo and tight links out-of-the-box: same problems I had. I bought a $15 metal-gear servo and just put a drop of oil on each pivot: they loosened up after a few packs.

Hmm... don't know why the gearbox bearings failed yet, but a 50% larger motor probably didn't help :) Bearings on the front center driveshaft gave up on life, allowing the shaft to deflect and the gear mesh to slip: metal shavings everywhere! You can buy complete RedCat gearboxes for $15-$20, so it shouldn't be too costly to fix.
The 1/8th XTE series are actually the RedCats that get poor reviews (example) (example). If you want a 1/10th get one of the "Caldera" models, and if you want 1/8th get one that ends with "8E". Read more here. Back to the OP: since RedCat has been reselling from three different OEMs you could go to their sites and see what's new, as a guess of what RedCat may sell next. RE: *Official* Caldera 10E Video, Picture And Discussion Thread
ORIGINAL: micah11 Hey guys, I just ordered a Caldera SC 10E yesterday from URC, and i was just wondering what parts I should order, beforehand, so when they break i'll have a replacement. Also, will a Caldera XB body & wing fit on it?
This reply is a bit late, but: Short-term - You'll want extra driveshafts since they seem a bit soft, and after mashing your front tires into a few poles they'll bend (BS903-019 - buy two sets). You should also grab a set of screws (BS903-073 and BS903-075), and a spare set of plastic front knuckes (either the bottom screw holes in them will get too loose to keep a screw in, or a crash will strip them out - BS903-015). You'll also want a replacement for the stock brass pinion since the teeth on it will probably be worn to sharp edges in about 10 packs: Traxxas steel pinions are cheap and plentiful (TRA3943). Longer term - You'll want replacement drive cups for the center diff since they seem to wear much faster than the cups on the front/rear diffs that go out to the tires (BS903-083) - they're aren't critical as you can drive with them really worn, but your truck will start to make a clicking noise when it moves. I would also order a set of inner hub bearings (BS903-016), since unless you take really good care of them they'll eventually seize up from being doused with dirt and water. RedCat Upgrades - The metal steering knuckes and new-style hubs (larger 4mm screws) are worth it to never have to worry about knuckle screws ever falling out again (metal parts means you can threadlock them - BS903-111 and BS903-017N) - but don't buy the blue aluminum version (MPO-03) since they're too pricey. HobbyKing sells these parts cheap, but they're often out-of-stock. If you break your steering rack you should also consider the metal version as an upgrade (BS803-010). Other Upgrades - Standard 12mm wheels fit: if you want to use Traxxas-style 2.8" rubber buy the Stampede-2wd-front / Stampede-4x4-all sized rims, as Stampede 2wd rear rims won't be wide enough to clear the steering linkages on the front of the Caldera. Cheap 540/550-sized Tacon motors from HobbyPartz will drop right in, and larger ESCs can be sourced cheap from HobbyKing. Traxxas Jato/E-Revo springs will fit on the Caldera shocks which will let you get the most value out of your stock shocks... but if you want a shock upgrade don't buy the RedCat aluminum upgrades (BS701-004A) since they're not a good value. Instead buy Traxxas XXL Ultra Shocks (plastic body). They're cheap (check Ebay), lots of places make springs that fit (Traxxas/Losi/Integy) and you can make them stronger if they break (metal shock caps or TiNi shafts). Finally, buy a new servo: Savox makes great bang-for-your buck fast + durable models that drop right in. That's all I can think of for now. :)

Want a 1/5th or 1/8th RedCat? How does $200 sound?
HobbyKing is having on a sale on the same BSD Racing kits that RedCat sells, but that HK sells as Turnigy brand: Turnigy Trailblazer XB (aka 1/5th RedCat Shredder XB) - $199.99 Turnigy Trailblazer 1/8 (aka 1/8th RedCat Earthquake 8E (slightly different body)) - $206.08 Take note of what comes with each bundle and what you'll still need to provide (i.e. batteries): even with shipping these are great deals! HK does sell parts for them (but almost every part is currently out-of-stock), but since they're all BSD rebadges you can just buy parts from your local RedCat reseller. I own the Shredder SC model and paid about $100 more for it just over a month ago. Still happy with my purchase, but if I had know I could have waited a few more weeks :).... Turnigy Trailblazer XB

RE: Does Redcat/HSP have an Electric 1/8th Truggy? Can it handle 6S?
I think the only RedCat that comes with 6s out-of-the-box is the 1/5th Rampage XB-E. But even the smaller ones should be fine if you have an ESC that can do it: the Caldera 1/10th, Earthquake/Aftershock/Backdraft 1/8th and Shredder 1/6th's all use the same differentials and gearboxes... and I run 6s in my Shredder SC after only swapping in a 150ESC (so running 6s through the stock motor). No problems so far. Here's my two short-course RedCats: 1/10th Caldera (3s) on top and 1/6th Shredder (6s) below - front+rear diffs+gearboxes are identical: But if you already have the electrics, why are you looking at RedCat? They only sell RTR new and there aren't many used. You can probably get a 1/8th Associated or Losi eTruggy roller used for $150-$200.

New motor came in for my SC 10E: a Leopard 2650kv 3674: it's going to need a bit of dremel work to fit :) I'm going to run it on 3s: was going to be paired with a BrushlessHobbies 120a ESC... but a new driver dunked my Caldera into a creek: water killed the BH ESC and FS receiver. So I stole the 80a HobbyWing Redcat shipped with my Shredder SC as a backup. Hope it all works!

The shaft size doesn't have anything to do with the number of teeth, you can buy a 16t 5mm 32p if you want and keep the same gear ratio.

The Velineon will fit if you take the black plastic endcap off (it just snaps on and off). Another option would be a Tacon 3660 3500kv: it's a bit longer and has a wider rotor than the stock motor... the KV is almost identical so the top speed will be almost the same: but it has a lot more torque: accelleration will be very noticably better. And it's less than $35 new!

RE: Caldrea 10E short radio range
You should be getting somewhere closer to 100m of range from the stock radio (or at least 3x-4x what you've described). I would contact Redcat support: a bad radio out-of-the-box isn't unheard of, and they'll probably just mail you a replacement. If that sounds like too much work a replacement FlySky 2ch or 3ch radio costs $20-30 new.

RE: Brushless motors
ORIGINAL: nitrosportsandrunner not certain what you mean by a 4074 motor.
That's the physical size of the motor: 40mm in diameter, 74mm long. The average "540-sized" motor is 3650 (which is what comes in the Volcano: 36mm diameter 50mm long). 4074's are typically found in 1/8th-scale RC's.
ORIGINAL: 1969elcamino Could I put a traxxas stampede motor in my volcano epx pro? I'm kinda new to this.
It depends on if you mean the brushed version (12-turn Titan motor) or the VXL brushed version. Either should fit: the Titan has a metal collar you may need to slide off for clearance, and the VXL Velineon brushless motor has a black plastic endcap you'd probably have to remove as well (it makes the end of the motor thicker, so it may hit the chassis). A cheap upgrade for a noticable bump in speed would be something like this Tacon 4000kv: though it's a bit overspec for your speed control and may cause it to run hot. For that price you can afford to give it a try.

That's a nice MT2! I hear ya on wanting to do your own thing: but the "value" part of my brain almost compels me to keep running factory bodies until they're more drywall tape and Shoe Goo than original Lexan :) . RE: Brushless motors
I don't have a Volcano (HSP), but I do have a Caldera 10E (BSD), and I think you'll run into the same problems I have. Looking at the Volcano chassis it looks like the regualr 3650 motor is already almost right up against the central aluminum chassic brace, so you're probably stuck with a 36mm-diameter can: ...and it looks like there's a plastic ridge/brace molded into chassis about 1cm behind the motor: which would limit you to 60mm long motors. So, I don't own one, but from the pictures I think you could fit a 3660 motor in there unmodified, or go as long at a 3674 if you're willing to Dremel some clearance out of the chassis. That's what I'm going to do with my Caldera.
ORIGINAL: Rev Devo Haven't messed with RCs in a while and wow how things have changed. Anyways, i got this sweet new Caldera 10e and i'm still feeling it out but it seems to me there is a lot of play in the driveline. Can anyone tell me if this is normal for a brand new Caldera: I can hold all four tires stationary on the ground and rotate the spur gear about 6 teeth from one direction to the other. Seems like this is just asking for something to break every time i change direction/brake. There is a tiny bit of play in every joint but it seems most of it is in the diffs. Any thoughts? Do you think i should add some shims inside the diffs?
It can't hurt to shim the diffs for durability - but they're the same diffs used in Redcat 1/8th and 1/6th models, so they're pretty tough and understressed in 1/10th cars. I don't think it's anything to be concerned about. Also, most of the play probably isn't in the diff-pinion/diff-spur connection... on mine it's the dogbone/drive-cup connections. Each dogbone has 2 pins on the end, and they fit a bit loose in the drive cups... from the center spur to each wheel there's 3 drivecups that have to take up the slack of the pins spinning in them for the wheels to move - that's where all the play is. Because the pins wear away at the the slots in the drive cups that play will get worse over time... but in reality your pinion can be spinning along at 30000+ RPM... so you won't notice how long it takes 6 teeth on your spur gear to fly by :)

Baby update: I'm waiting on some Traxxas E-Revo springs to arrive (fit right on the Caldera shocks) and some higher body mounts... but I can still test-fit some changes to my SC 10E: I had the body and tires on a Stampede 2wd (now sold): I have also ordered a new set of Stampede front rims since I need that slightly wider offset to clear the front hubs on the Caldera (the narrower rears fit, but there's not much room). I recycle bodies and tires forever, but if you wanted to make your own bug like this you would need: 2 x PRO117300 Pro-Line Badlands 2.8" (tires) 2 x TRA5576A Traxxas Front Rims 1 x PRO323862 Pro-Line Volkswagon body 1 x BS904-016 (or BS904-017) Redcat high body post set (Yes, you could also put Pro-Line Badlands SC tires on the stock rims: I already had this set and wanted to keep the stock wheels+tires :) )
