RE: Mystery boat
Well the boat went like a rocket - after sorting the engine out. I now need to do somthing to stop it spinning out of control on turns. A 'turn fin' or two was mentioned & perhaps reducing the throw on the rudder? RE: Merco 61 - carbon date it?
Hi The engine is now working perfectly. The best position for the idle screw was when it covered exactly half of the hole. Using new Contest 10 fuel and a new Enya No.3 glow plug helped as well. The boat went so fast that I found it hard to control. Thanks for the advice. Pete [link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3z34y7OJisA]Video of the boat[/link] [link=http://fireboat.piczo.com

RE: Official Hobby Zone "Super Cub" Thread
Hi Barlowe, Yes I have flown it - about half a dozen times. Although it has always been when the wind is slow & from grass. I did have one bad landing & had to glue a bit of the wing tip back. It was sunny here today & that made the plane come out extra white & clean looking in the pictures. Keeping it hanging in the kitchen helps prevents damage. Pete

RE: Official Hobby Zone "Super Cub" Thread
Hi Have had a go at modifying one of these great aeroplanes - ailerons / flapperons etc. It flies really well. Have put some pics & short video on my website at: [link=http://fireboat.piczo.com/?g=51233189&cr=6]My site[/link] [image]http://i102.piczo.com/view/2/9/q/a/w/m/9/e/r/e/s/x/img/i344533830_88058_6.jpg[/image] [image]http://i102.piczo.com/view/2/9/q/a/w/m/9/e/r/e/s/x/img/i344533825_53111_6.jpg[/image]

RE: For those who love World War Two Fighters
Andy & Phil many thanks to each of you for the advice. I certainly won't be taking to the skies with the Spitfire until I have completed the sort of training you suggest. Out of interest should I leave the rear wheel to castor? I have put a bolt in to keep it straight. Pete [link=http://pic6.piczo.com/fireboat/?g=48899021&cr=6&linkvar=000044]My website[/link]

RE: Aerokits RAF fire boat/crash tender
I would have used canopy glue (used for RC aeroplanes) as it is flexible, dries clear and will not mist the clear plastic like ply cement or superglue can. I think that the plastic that I used was of a fairly thick varety - ie the kind that larger toys (like dolls) usally come in. Pete

RE: Aerokits RAF fire boat/crash tender
On the subjects of windows & fire monitors on the 46 inch boat I have had some success. I put detailed pictures & building tips on my website, so I wont repeat all of that here. I tried lots of methods for the windows, but in the end plasticard frames stuck over clear perspex (the kind that most kids toys come in) worked out best. These are screwed on rather than glued. The fire monitors I managed to scratch from scratch using brass tube - soldered with a domestic soldering iron - and beleive it or not, some old wooden golf tees (they are just the right shape for the nozzle). Both monitors move and fire water - about 10 feet (3m) thanks to a couple of 12v fuel pumps. I used the Robbe system to make them turn. I ended up radio controlling lots of things in the model including a swinging, wiching jib and search light. The result is a boat that weighs 25 pounds and with a 10cc engine goes like a rocket. But you have to be careful on the corners - as there is a risk of tipping it over. RE: ANY CVT's Out there?? (Continuous Variable Transmission)
Hi for those searching the internet for info on the 1/9 Kyosho CCVT pajero / montero/ 4runner I have just restored one that I bought off e-bay. The gearbox case is the weak point, but after some modification with fibre glass have got it working again. Have posted some pics & video on my websiite : http://pic6.piczo.com/fireboat/ would love to hear from others with these cars.
