RE: How much expo do you pattern pros use? If any
Another method I have seen another top pilot use is as follows. Adjust throws so that you have enough throw to perform the manouvers required at that particular rate switch setting. Once that is done adjust expo so that you have 50% throw at 50% stick travel and do that for all functions. This should give a good linear feel across all different rate switch settings.

RE: YS-170CDI Flight Report
I recall reading something about the disc valve being replaced with an aluminium version. I guess the crank pin is the logical choice for the magnetic source. From what I have read this development sounds too good to be true. It will probably force some electric flyers back to glow unless lipo flight packs take a sudden drop in price because the running costs of a DZ170 CDI will be halved. Very exiting to say the least

RE: Angel S EVO Build Thread
I am about to start building my Angel S. I have purshased the Hacker motor and ESC as recommended with the model. I have purchased a couple of the following packs R-spec ZIPPY packs, made in Korea! The solid C rating and long life put the ZIPPY-Rs performance and value for money combination in a category of its own. ZIPPY-R packs come with a 3 month No-Puff & No-Fault warranty! Spec. Minimum Capacity: 4500mAh Configuration: 6S1P / 22.2v / 6Cell Constant Discharge: 21C (Minimum) Peak Discharge (10sec): 35C Pack Weight: 676g Pack Size: 36x46x195mm Charge Plug: JST-XH They are about 80 grams heavier that the 3700 mah pack they recommened which I hope wont make the model fly like it has a heavy wing loading. I wanted the larger packes for a longer flight time. Has anyone flown this model with this size pack?

RE: Impact
Hi Jeff, Congratulations on the model. It looks great. I have been flying my model for close to 3 years and it is still going strong with DZ160 power. When I test flew my model it trimmed out with a little down elevator and it felt very floaty in the wind. In my previous posts I mentioned the incidence changes I made as a result which I feel improved the model. The modele is quite sensitive to CG changes, I found the best compromise for CG was when it balanced on the rear of the tube with wings removed. In your case I would add the adjusters because if you try to adjust your wing to remove your down trim you are going to screw up your thrust line. The inbuilt down thrust is marginal on this model and it needs a little more. I increased down thrust by adding more positive incidence on the wing and then reseting my stabs to remove any elevator trim. The other benefit to doing this was it raised the tail of the aircraft in level flight which makes the model present better with a more locked in feel. It also reduced my elevator to rudder mix to almost nothing. Couldn't be happier with the changes. Adding stab adjusters is not difficult in this model. The gator units available from Central Hobbies work well, if I recall correctly I remember posting some pictures in the build thread. Good Luck, Peter

RE: Interesting "new" hyde mount
Does anyone know if the 140ARA mount and the AR80 mount can be interchanged in the same model. The AR80 appears thicker in the rubber section so I am assuming that a simple spacer behind the 140ARA will allow me to do this - I also assume the bolt patterns are identical. If this is the case how thick must this spacer be? Cheers, Peter

Hi Pierre, I am in the process of putting an Integral together and I will be using a DZ170 engine. Could you please tell me what engine mount you are using along with some pictures of your engine bay area. There really isnt a lot of room in the comp-arf version when using a soft mount. any setup tips would be handy. Thanks

RE: Klotz oil for YS-engines
I did not intend to bag Klotz oil per say. I just dont think KL-198 and Cool Power LV compare when used on their own. Coolpower LV just seems to handle the punishment better in the cam gear train area than KL-198. As I mentioned in my original post the top end of the engine was fine with both lubricants. I dont think either oil has an issue in 2 stroke engines.

RE: Klotz oil for YS-engines
Hi, I have used Klotz oils previously with the YS140DZ engine and experienced problems in a hot climate (Australia). My problems were related to stripping cam gears however the top part of the engine (piston, ring and sleeve wear looked OK). I originally used KL198 then I experimented with mixing KL198 and KL200 (12% each). After breaking 4 cam gears including cranshaft damage I went back to Coolpower oil (I mix my own fuel). Not sure what parts are breaking but I would suggest if you are having cam related problems that you invest in a soft start (delayed) glow driver. I believe the start on these engines causes the most damage. A slight kick at start time places very high loads on your gear train. Listen to what Troy says I have learnt a lot from his advice. One other suggestion is look at the oil residue after a flight as this will tell you a lot of things. I do my fine tuning by looking at the colour of the oil residue and make sure you wipe down the model after each flight so you can see the difference. If there is any sign of dark or burnt oil then you are running too lean. The oil residue from my model is clear - You would be surprised what a difference 1-2 clicks will make in getting this right. I now use a mixture of low and high viscosity coolpower oil (11% of each) and couldnt be happier. Make sure you are not being supplied with the rubbish Chinese nitro. I have had issues with it and now only use the Angus branded nitro. We get a group of modellers together and purchase a 44 gallon drum of it therefore we get to see the container in a sealed state. RE: Interesting "new" hyde mount
Thanks for your comments Mike / Jeff I am looking at a couple of options. I am trying to entertain the idea of using a prop shaft extension on the YS. By moving the engine back 3/4 inch dramatically gives more room for the engine to work in. Anyone looking at this thread have any information on prop shaft extensions. (This concept was very common in the early days of control line stunt) Jeff, Get yourself a DZ160 or 170. You wont look back unless your flying budget is limited. They do cost more to run but when they are running well the experience is priceless. I have been using the YS 4 strokes for a long time and must admit I cant bring myself to buying an OS 2 stroke. Mike, I have been using the 140ARA mount for many years without problems. I will probably use this version again as it gives a good balance between idle and WOT dampening. I have designed my own delay glow driver and it is a must for starting these beasts smoothly.

Hi Mike, I am about to put a Comp-ARF Integral together so I am getting my shopping list together. I know this thread is a few months old - have there been any further developments in the engine mount area. I am not sure how familiar you are with the Integral but the nose gets fairly tight which doesnt leave a lot of room for engines to rock around. I plan to use DZ 160-170. Regards, Peter

Lipo battery suppliers
Hi all, I have taken the plunge and have decided to have a play with electric power. I have recently purchased a Sebart AngelS 50 and I am in the process of assembling the model. I am looking at using this model as a practice F3A model while on work trips (no worrying about purchasing fuel and storage). I am ready to buy some batteries but I am not willing to pay the price our Australian distributors are asking. I would like to purchase either EVO or Thunder power batteries 3700 6S1P or equivelant. Can anyone suggest a good reliable source in the states who will ship internationally. Any advice in relation to batteries or this model would be most welcomed. Thanks Peter.

RE: CPLR new plane OSMOSE
Irrespective of the production number the quality of the fuse shown in the photos is disgusting. Probably the worst I have seen. It shows this company has obviously no quality control what so ever. I would be personally embarrased if my business produced workmanship to this standard. Thanks for the photos I am certainly never going to deal with this company.

RE: NMP Velocity stack
Thanks Troy. I will keep your secret safe. We dont want the WWW to find out[;)] Seriously, thanks for the effort in responding. I guess I was looking for a better throttle curve than I currently use. I believe there is a lot to be gained in this area of model setup. Throttle reponse and setting to suit the particular model will gain you more points in competition then say changing aileron differential by 1 to 2%. Some days when I fly and the engine feels great in mid-range you can draw really nice radius's in your cuban's and immulman turns. When the engine is not running right and it effectively feels like an on-off switch it becomes very difficult to draw smooth lines. I am currently playing with my own modified 18.1x10W cut down to 17.5x10W with the tips thinned down. I love the prop but I feel I need a little more pitch on those windy days. The front of the model is a little draggy so it might be fine with a cleaner airframe.

RE: Composite-ARF Integral, kinda build thread
So the plane comes nose heavy... this concerns me a bit...I use the ARIA type mount as it is easy to install and is the only one I have right now. I have read various negative comments about this mount, IMO does not work very well but I would not rather to encounter another extra cost. I will be using two 9650s at the tail which are heavier than the 3421SAs and also I think of using a Mejslik prop (18x10) which is 1+ounce lighter than the APC (17x12) plus a plastic spinner (no Tru Turn).
Nickolas, why not remove the steel fork arrangement from the mount. Then you have a mount and seperate nose ring which can be mounted as if you had an ARA mount (not sure if this will work as I have never owned an ARIA mount) You have spent all this money purchasing a competitive light weight model and it will be a shame to make it any heavier than it needs to be. Excess weight is always excess weight no matter whatever you do so installing lighter components later will not make things right. The CG issue mentioned could be a problem and you may need to place extra weight in the tail to compensate therefore adding additional weight. I know what I would do if I was in your position. Much easier to deal with it now than later.

RE: Composite-ARF Integral, kinda build thread
Nickolas, why are you using the ARIA mount in this model. I would be using the ARA version with a seperate nose ring up front. This setup will save you 2.5-3 ounces. I can recomend the Futaba 9155 for rudder and I like the Futaba 9154 aileron servo. I am not sure if it will be an easy fit in the servo hole provided in the wing.
